Thks for introducing Lotus, looks good! You can also check out Elemen (they have a few locations). May I also recommend the cafe/restaurant at Tzu Chi Youth Centre. I think it's called Real or something. It is in a local neighbourhood (so you can explore around) but nice place to chill by the park and pond. All the incense burning you saw is for the ongoing lunar seventh month 'hungry ghost festival'. However it's not religious - more of a traditional folk custom (superstition if you may) among Southern Chinese societies. You're actually very unlikely to see this in most of China itself.
You are really enjoying the foods in Singapore! There are plentiful to discover and experience. The Mid-Autumn Festival will fall on September 21st (Tuesday). Go try the moon cakes! They are only available during the one-month festival.
Yup, the city-state is constantly in infrastructure development 24x7x365. Do carry an umbrella when outdoors, not only for the rain but for the scorching Sun as well.
Yes. It's good that you can really explore Singapore on foot, as too many places of interest are off the usual main thoroughfare. I noticed that many viewers have informed you about the "Hungry Ghost Month & Festival", so I wouldn't say more except to let you know that, you can compare this to "Halloween" but with more elaborate meaning and practice. This will help you understand easier. On the subject of vegetarian cuisine, apart from the usual restaurants/eating houses and/or hawker centres, you can also find some Chinese Temples offer such to visitors. Some comes with fix menu & price, while others will feed you yet let you decide how much you are willing to pay (which means you are expected to offer you donation to the Temple's alms).
Thanks! thats a good way to explain it. maybe also like the mexican "day of the dead" or something?!? Oh wow! that is really nice, would love to take part in that. just wouldnt know how much to pay, to whom and how! One day, maybe we will pluck up the courage to ask :)
@@RobandJenny Amount of the donation is really up to you, much like what you may give during Sunday Service in a church. Of course, do be sensible in calculating the amount to give, after all you are having a meal. Also, you don't give to a person per se, rather it's to the Temple via their administration or monks/nuns. Ask and you will be enlightened. Heheh.
The temple is definitely worth the trip! Love the video. Well done :) I really like your older videos too where you explore more of Asia. Brings back some good memories. Love to see more of you guys in the future!
I would recommend Nom v Nom at Clarke quay and Boneless kitchen at Tai seng a Korean vegetarian restaurant, the Clarke quay have a nice river view you can have a stroll at the river side after your dinner as for the boneless kitchen the food is nice and they have Korean Army steamboat which is super delicious 😋
Thanks for bringing back some memories when I was young 😋😋 My parents did brought me to some Vegetarian restaurants (some of them next to a Temple) in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, but I don't remembered if the same restaurants are still there. Anyway, totally missed your "foodie" videos, but it might be due to the pandemic. Hopefully all these massive lockdowns will be over soon! May I have a suggestion: This coming winter, go to the Chinese Winter Olympics, see some winter events and catch some Brits Olympians, and if you have time for a few days, go to Harbin China, you would be mystified by their Winter lighted sculptures! Dress warm! 🤗🤗🤗
not sure hv u been nomVnom Bistro Singapore · In Clarke Quay Central. they are selling vegan fast food. U can try if u hv not. if u do a Google search u be surprise there alot of Vegetarian food in SGP Chinese n Indian. cheers...
The Chinese are having our Hungry Ghosts Festival now until 9th Sept or thereabout. So u will see many people burning incense and joss sticks and offering food. As Chinese there are a number of things we are not supposed to do during this period. All probably based on superstitions but we follow them anyway as it is part of our culture. For u guys, just be careful not to step on or step over those burnt sites or ashes. Next up will be our Mid Autumn Festival around 15th Sept where u can try out mooncakes that come in various flavours. Enjoy. :)
Hi Rob and Jenny, here are some vegan/vegetarian restaurants I love! GreenDot, VeganBurg, RealFood and Green Common. VeganBurg’s burgers are so good, you don’t even realize you’re not eating meat!
According to Chinese Lunar Calendar, currently it is the 7th month of the year, and it is the month where the hell gate open, and the ghosts and spirits can roam freely in the mortal world. So you will see many chinese family praying and giving offerings to their ancestors who might visit them.
Well, I've not been Singapore for the last 10 years, so it is better to ask around for vegetarian hawker centres. To what I know most hawker centres have vegetarian stalls...you may want to try out your luck in the nearest hawker centre. Good luck and keep posting new videos. I'm subscribing your channel. Cheers! ❤️
Have you been to chinatown, alot of shopping around there, chinatown point, people complex, also honglim food centre alot of foodies, just next to chinatown point, have a nice day
Thanks! Yeah we did go to Chinatown before when we came and a couple of weeks ago. Its nice there. though lacking a bit of atmosphere at the moment without as many visitors.
Commonly known as... *Drum Roll*... The Hungry Ghost Festival... aka, The Lunar 7th month... * Do NOT... Step on the offering * Do NOT... Touch the offering * Do NOT... Move the offering Or some 'Good Brothers/Sisters' might follow you home... 👻👻👻
Rob, you need to practice your chopstick skills. Here is a challenge for you. Try picking up fish balls with chopsticks next time when you eat fish ball noodles at the hawker centre. 😉
When i saw this video by a SG youtuber(link below), i recalled yall did a video about vegetarian food and thought u guys may wanna try the stalls mentioned in the video out next time. th-cam.com/video/dEDw-5EIaio/w-d-xo.html

Not all Chinese believe or celebrate 7th month Ghosts festival, Chinese Christians & Muslims do not surely. It's mostly the Taoist believers
@@CharlieTan-kl5tf you are right.
Rob and Jenny great vlog and thank you very much for making me hungry. 😄😄
Haha oops sorry🤪
Welcome to Singapore 🇸🇬
Thank you!😊
I'm a new subscriber to your channel! Brilliant video and stay safe !

Nice! Yeah veggie food isn't only for vegetarians. Look at us! 😝

Thanks for the info. 😊😊 Sounds a little like the Mexican day of the dead?
@@RobandJenny Interesting how human can be so similar at times.
@@RobandJenny Yes sort of, except that here they get one month holiday instead of one day. 😁
Go try D’ Life vegetarian. They serve nice ginger soup mee such (noodle) and Lear corner Vegetarian.
Thanks! on the list! so many places to go to :)
Suggest to hold the dim sum food with both the chopsticks and the porcelain spoon. This way you don’t need too much chopstick power.
Thanks for the tip. We need to get better at chopstick control. 🤣
You guys could try out some hawker centre's vegetarian food. They all taste quite good and cheaper. Have fun!
Oh interesting!! Any you'd reccomend?
