What made this return so special was that not only was Mickie signed to Impact Wrestling at the time, but she was the Knockouts Champion. This was a rare case of WWE opening the forbidden door.
I think the reason Edge's return was so great was because it meant a lot to him. He probably spent 9 years wanting to wrestle and be at the WWE, but couldnt. It was the look on his face that made that return so special

Yk for 2023 you could go with Cody Rhodes at the Rumble, and Orton and Punk at the WarGames ple during the match and after the match but damn Cody's got ruined because he tweeted he was nunber 30 which was sad and for Orton they ruined it because Cody literally said on Raw he's coming back to help them out at WarGames and sure Punk's was kinda teased but that was actually a surprise since basically almost no one knew he was coming except for a few people. It was such a mind blowing return so for me in 2023 it was Punk
Obviously 2020 has to be Edge and I know heel Roman Reigns happened in the summer and that was a great return ans new character but damn nothing really compares Edge returning at the 2020 Royal almost full 9 years to the date he retired. That was truly a mind blowing return and it's my favourite Royal Rumble surprise return of all time too and yeah I know it was a bit teased too

At that moment we thought it was just a surprise hall of famer just stopping by. We never thought Edge would actually come back and wrestle again. That's why his comeback at Royal Rumble was really that spectacular
