'Aru' Is a Japanese stereo type for Chinese people. When people who have a Chinese accent (Because that was their first language) speak in Japanese, it sounds as if they said 'Aru' at the end of their sentences.

god, this piece of media has aged so poorly it's laughable but i can't bring myself to hate it because it was there for me in my darkest times and without it being in my formative years i think i genuinely would be worse off as a person. my experience with hetalia is so niche that i doubt many people coming across this comment will relate to it, but i can't deny that the vapid country people anime makes me feel warm inside sometimes sue me T T i don't feel much love for the source media, but there's so many talented and wonderful people in this fandom and i hope the ones that moved on are having good days. things are pretty chill over on tumblr, at least if you are looking at people who create for asian and african countries (the colonization and imperialism apologists seem to have deserted and left for other fandoms) . i don't see myself coming back to this fandom as well, a fan, but i am grateful for the ways hetalia has shaped me no matter how questionable it could be at best and downright ludicriously insensitive at worst. the mediocre media with occasionally jaw droppingly good fan content that consumed you whole as a preteen never leaves you entirely, and sometimes, that's not all bad ! don't view the problematic media you were obsessed with as a young and impressionable preteen with rosy lenses to make yourself feel "less bad" for liking it, being critical of the media you enjoy is a must, but you are not a bad person for having good memories from "embarrassing" fandoms. in particular, if you're a person of color who was into hetalia, especially at it's peak, you are braver than any marine. i can't fit all my complex thoughts on this in a youtube comment but uh yeah. this block of text is just here because i was feeling very melancholic looking back on my life. i don't regret being into hetalia, but also there's just so much more out there. this isn't meant to be disrespectful to people in the fandom NOW more power to you if you handle the personifications with tact and nuance !! have a good whatever time it is in your country and pls drink some water ! nee nee papa~

i miss him and my india ocs at times. my interpretation of yao became so divorced from the source material that i just made him+the indias into my own, still immortal, ocs 😭 (yes multiple indias, india as a country cannot be just ONE personification, way too diverse for that) but looking back at his roots feel so funny when i'm in the mood for it, like Ah Yes, this is my original character's predecessor, his ancestor, his grand-daddy, if you will, THE COUNTRY OF CHINA !
I just realized that “chao fan” was “fried rice” in Cantonese (well, I’m Chinese-Canadian, so I know a little bit of both Cantonese and Mandarin) and it confused me SO much. XD

I do look like him. My friends and I are planning a cosplay of the country or nyo of the ethical group of where we are from. I’m Chinese so I get China, Hong Kong, or Macau. One is Japanese, she gets nyo Japan. Another is German, she is going as nyo Germany. Two are American, they will be going as America and Nyo America. Finally the last one is Mexican but will either go as Nyo Cuba or Nyo Spain. They chose that one.
