    choosing a perfect sketchbook is driving me crazy! I want good paper, thick paper, but if it's too precious I won't be drawing anything because of fear of ruining it. I DIYed several ones in different sizes, but still do not feel satisfied. Too many sketchbooks feel too scattered to me, and yet only one book can't be the be-all-and-end-all multi-purpose for me. Maybe I don't like drawing at all and am just obsessed with the idea of having a sketchbook! lol sorry for this long nonsense. Your video is very lovely. glad to see your different books.

      I have the exact same thing! Lots of different sketchbooks! I will feel like drawing something else and then I need a different sketchbook for that, and... now I have many unfinished sketchbooks. But I have come to like that I have a different relationship with each sketchbook. They serve different purposes for me. I discovered this when I started doing Morning Pages: I'd write down the date and then fill the page. And I sometimes switched sketchbooks, and I found out that was fine! The pages are the completed things now. So I'll maybe do a page in this sketchbook, then a page in another sketchbook the next day, and it's okay now. Maybe it's okay, you know? The creative process can be messy!

    sketchbook tours are highly motivating. Having an experienced artist such as yourself explain the differences in sketchbook choices is again highly informative. Appreciate your time and thought behind this video.😊😊😊

    I haven’t found my “one perfect sketchbook” yet but I’ve found my one perfect paper, which is called “The Wall” from the brand Canson. It was pretty thick at 220 gsm, extra smooth texture, and ultra white colored paper, so its perfect for inking, which is my preferred medium. The best thing is: its totally bleed proof, even alcohol markers can’t penetrate it at all lol so even if u use copic markers that literally bleed thru everything, u can still use both sides of this paper. My issues only when it comes to the binding, because Canson The Wall sketchbook use spiral bound which I don’t really like, I prefer a perfect bound hard cover that can lay flat. And it only comes in 3 sizes, which is A4, A3, and 50x70 cm paper sheets, meanwhile I prefer a square, maybe a 20x20 cm, sketchbook. So what I plan to do is: buy at least 5 sheets of the 50x70 CM papers, cut it into 40x20 cm sheets, fold it into at least 5 square signatures, and bind them into a perfect bound hardcover sketchbook myself. Idk when or how this plan gonna go tho 😂 but I hope someday I can finally make this “perfect” sketchbook come true by myself :’)

      Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for that tip! That sounds like perfect paper for me, too, as my preferred medium is ink also. Making your own sketchbook is really useful as you indeed get to choose type of paper, how many pages, size. I had done that once; made a sketchbook that fit perfectly in a bag. Are you going to use a coptic stitch? The pages lay perfectly flat then, and it is relatively easy.
      Sorry again for the late reply, and thank you for the tip!

    Enjoyed seeing your many drawings/sketches Ayal. Very inspiring. I don't sketch standing up and I really dislike wire bound books, always get caught inside my bag, get bent so pages rip out, etc. But thanks for the reviews and various options. Good stuff!

      Hi Dave, thank you so much for your kind words! For me, my preferred sketchbook keeps changing as I jump from doing one thing to doing another when I get stuck on something. Nice to be able to have that choice. Thank you again for your kind words!

      Thank you so much! I used to think it was a problem that I had so many unfinished sketchbooks, but now I enjoy having a different purpose for each of them. It gives me creative freedom to do different things, and I switch a lot.

    Thanks for this review. By the way, what pen do you use? with waterproof ink, as in pen & wash (watercolour) drawings?

    I know this is an older video, but do you remember what the sketchbook from the 3:10 mark was? It looked to hold up to ink well and appeared to be an 8x8” possibly. Thanks!

    • @PracticeDrawingThis
      @PracticeDrawingThis  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      On the cover, it says Zebra A/S and www.tstores.co which seems to be the same company. It's square and the pages are indeed 8×8 inches! It does hold ink well. If I had to guess, the pages are around 100-120 gsm. Unfortunately, they don't seem to carry this sketchbook anymore! It had product code 20080388 and batch number 205885, barcode 200200803887 but a search didn't yield anything, unfortunately.
