  • A time-lapse video showing normal corn and albino corn germinating and growing. These cause of the albinism here is genetic. Albinism in plants occurs when chlorophyll, the green pigment used in photosynthesis, cannot be made. It is recessive so the plant must have two copies of the albino allele in order to be albino. Having only one copy will give the corn plant a normal green color.
The G and g symbols used in the punnet square were fabricated to demonstrate the genetics of albinism in this corn strain.

I have an albino pepper plant I feed her honey + rice water and I ordered a special fungi. That helps gather nutrients and water I’m hoping to get her old enough to graft part of a normal pepper onto her she she’ll be a week old tomorrow

Keep me updated please I'm very interested in the fruit and seed produced and how it affects the taste and capsaicin levels

@@beefmeatloaf Sadly it passed away around I believe around march 3/4? had left it in the kitchen overnight thinking I had put it in a shady place( albino plants are really susceptible to being sunburned) And sadly it got sunburned and passed way

This is amazing! I’m learning about genetics in biology and it’s really cool to see these fun videos! And thank you for talking about the ressesive and dominant traits. I really love biology and I asked my teacher about albino plants and maybe I will try these seeds one day :) awesome video keep up the great work!!!

Hey Man, if you can, can you show me where you got your data from to back up what the video showed? It would be very helpful for a lab project of mine.

Hi Myyddraal, I bought the seeds from here which gives a bit more info:
      www.carolina.com/plant-genetics/genetic-corn-seed-green-albino/177130.pr?question=Albino+corn
We plant these seeds all the time in my lab and they have a 25% chance of being albino (3 green: 1 Albino). I hope this info helps you.

Was the chi square total more than the critical value? And did it fit the predicted 3:1 ratio? or the 9:3:3:1?

I am doing this as a science lab with hs students.
I plan on germinating some in the dark. My hope is that they will all grow white. Nature vs nuture
