There are quite a few options. Most consoles have digital copies and they can also be bought on Steam and GoG. Just do a bit a research before you choose a version to buy because some of the digital copies have a bit of input lag which in a game like this, can make the game borderline unplayable.

16:49 This one! The Union 3-in-1 war vehicle The 5th level of XX was a festival or swarming you with enemies from all directions every few steps, including packs of mini UFOs that laser straight down through your head, all while player is set to glide down cliffs and crevices on a parachute which doesn't let you jump and shuffle around like usual. And this fat kitchen sink is just a salt in the wounds. You just have to find crawlspaces through all the enemy attacks, while crushing the primary fire key hoping to kill one of the 3 units and get some fresh air. And even then destroyed units are still able to shoot and dock together crushing you if you try to put a few more bullets into it during a time window. An utter chaos. Sad part: the concept is amazing. A tank, a jet and an armed platform thingy megazorded into one machine is something we didnt see much in MS series. Really wish this boss would be an obtainable unit in MS Defense
For me based on Lv.8 Difficulty (hardest difficulty) playthrough experience Hardest No.1 Amadeus last phase No.2 Sandmarine No.3 Sal Dae Rokker No.4 Rugname No.5 Kraken No.6 Rootmars Also MS7/XX Mission 4 , 5 boss Jupiter King if fight without Rebel's LV Armor When you come from Ostrich route you don't have vehicle to fight this boss if come from secret base route you'll have LV Armor at least you can use eject trick to avoid dmg Invader King if fight without Slug (fight is easy with Slug + Tarma because when Tarma ride a Slug Vulcan dmg is x1.5 and can take 6 hits while other chars when ride a Slug can take only 3 hits) Elder Centipede (MS6 mission 4) fight is harder without Slug Flyer (Slug Flyer destroyed during Slug flyer route or during boss fight or come from Rootmars route) All MS1 bosses are easiest bosses even Lv.8 difficulty especially when fight with Slug + spare alot of Grenades (40-50 if possible) before fight you can spam it and kill the boss quickly
Another infuriating thing about the Kraken is the time limit, which kills you when you reach 0. For me, the hardest boss is the Monoeye aliens from MS3, as a Zombie, you have to time it right with the blood vomit while dodging the beams.
8:52,I'm super late, but the proto gunner has the Vulcan Fix built into it, so just hold down fire to constantly aim in one direction while moving around!
14:14 The only possible, legal way to cheese the Monoeyes boss fight was having your character turned into their Zombie form and spams the grenades that you saved from earlier. Still the tricky part is you have to timing the Blood Pukes in the right moments to kill them fast before their attacks became ridiculously fast.
I've never played 6 or 7, but Amadeus fight was like a death the moment the invincibility wore off. That's my number one and I feel validated it is high on your list!
Hey I've got an idea Since you made a video on the best songs of KOF, why won't you make one for the best songs of Metal Slug. That game definitely has awesome themes ( with Secret Place from MS 4 being my favourite ) What do you think ?
i LOVED Sand Marine and Fall Mecha, one of my favorite bosses in the series, but they are quite a challenge. really liked the two O'Neil fights on the list, didn't really like the Sol boss, Brain Robot is cool but i hated how it goes from hard to absolutely painful if you try to use the vehicle there, really liked Amadeus, Rootmars is pretty neat even if way too repetitive and high on health for me, HATED MS2's final boss and loved the Kraken boss. great video!
I'm happy with any video.. Time to watch the metal slug lore videos again after so long 😁 Thinking of playing the metal slug games for first time on mobile now🤔
"There are those who could defeat these monsters blindfolded while holding the controller with their feet" 😂😂😂 I'd like to know those monsters who can do that!!
You could also make a video to rank the different factions based on how strong they each are both gameplay-wise and lore-wise. My list (only lore-wise), from most powerful to least powerful, would be: 1) Future Rebel Army 2) Mars People 3) Invaders 4) Present Rebel Army 5) Ptolemaic Army 6) Amadeus Syndicate
For me, its the avatar of evil, his annoying balls will follow you until you die but the blls probs dont stop, and when he ascends, more balls will rapidly approach the player, when thats done, he will use a scythe to send down those spear looking thingys, and it will launch out puffs of smoke if your close to it, it has a bunch of health and its hitting point is the skull, removing any more hitting points either than the skull imbedded in its chest, there
If there's one thing that Metal Slug 4 did well, I think it's the final boss fight. For many reasons, I feel that Amadeus's fight is the best boss in the entire series, and certainly outpaces many of the other final bosses. For example, Rootmars simply involves jumping in and out of the Metal Slug while he repeats the same two attacks over and over again, while Dark Spirit Incarnate is literally just sliding left and right and waiting for his scythe to fall down. The Rugname final boss from MS2 literally just fires blindly in the middle and spams annoying over-buffed U.F.O.'s for the whole fight. Compare this to a climatic three-phased boss fight full of fun and dodge-able patterns against missiles, laser rings, energy balls, mobile satellites, a giant buzzsaw, a machine-gun, central cockpit heat lasers, vertical & horizontal beams, mini-robots and bouncing shots. The atmosphere is intense, it always keeps you on your toes and has high replay-ability because of the sheer diversity of attacks it has. Now only if Metal Slug 4 had this much ambition in the entire game, and it could have been one of the best entries in the series.
Definely! Other bosses are easy once you are familiarize their attack patterns but when it comes to dr.amadues i was like “ holy sht”with these attack projectiles.
I remember getting super bummed out when I nearly beaten Metal Slug 3 in 1 life then started losing a continue at the final boss on hard mode. So I kissed those achievements for no death on Mission 5 and no continue run on xbox live. The final mission is about as long as doing mission 1 to 4 in MS3. I wouldn't say this series is bat shit hard compared to contra where even touching an enemy in those games kills you. In metal slug the attacks are heavily telegraphed, each enemy action needs purpose for why your protagonist is getting harmed.
I would disagree on Brain Robot being that high due to a single thing that flips the entire fight - MS6 new mechanic, Vulcan Fix. While every other slug's Vulcan can be locked into current direction only by Tarma, Protogunner's Vulcan can be fixed by ANYONE - even Ralf. And with that change, you can focus on dodging, as Brain Robot is so stupidly tall that you can't really miss him if you fixed your vulcan around the middle of screen.
I had a grudge for (also) the mission 4 of Metal slug IV... I couldn't progress on the arcades because of it (Played with my brother and we had a limit of how many we could spend), and Big Jhon was tough to deal with those glass bombs that killed you even in zombified state... good old times
I just recently played Metal Slug X and I have a personal grudge against the tank of the first level, just beacuse each time I attempt a perfect run of the that stage one of the three final dudes to rescue (from destroying the bottom turret) always goes off screen and my attempts to catch him always end in a missile stunning my metal slug and messing up the run.
I can honestly say that the Rugname and Sol Dae Rokker are not hard, they are just unfair because: ...Sol Dae Rokker yellow beams are truly impossible to avoid only when the boss is enraged, so if the boss doesn't do that attack (RNG involved basically) you can easily win; ...and the Rugname is hard because of how unpredictable and sturdy the Elite Ufos are. If the Dai Manji (previous phase) drops a super weapon, the final battle will be 300 times easier. Rather than skill, those two bosses need luck.
That hardest boss for me is that one fucking tank thing in one of the snow levels. I think it has saws or spikes in the front of it, you can’t stand on it, and I’m pretty sure Morden was controlling it. I died so many times to that boss
Don’t forget about Kraken taking so long to kill that the timer actually matters here, so you have 1 more way of dying even if you are doing well. The fight would be more fun and bearable if there was a Slug before heading in. It’s a tough fight but we like the challenge. Thank goodness it wasn’t in arcades.
Though I agree with most of them but Union should have been there. My goodness, that thing was a nightmare. For me invader king is the hardest Metal Slug boss of all time
He's not wrong about the number one. What makes it even harder is that if you're fighting the Kraken on hard difficulty and you're on a "No death" run. The boss won't kill you, the timer will.
Metal Slug 7 is what I think the hardest game in a cheap way. While the enemies aren't so creative, it just likes to take advantage of the terrains and platforms making it hard
I'm more amused that this list didn't include sol Dae rokker and it places sand marine on 8th. Sand marine is just sol Dae rokker on the ground Sol Dae rokker has RNG (yellow beams), that alone makes him a difficult boss to fight
For me, the hardest boss of the series will always be my parents. Convincing them to lend me another quarter was among the toughest challenges I've faced in any game

The Union 3-in-1 war vehicle
The 5th level of XX was a festival or swarming you with enemies from all directions every few steps, including packs of mini UFOs that laser straight down through your head, all while player is set to glide down cliffs and crevices on a parachute which doesn't let you jump and shuffle around like usual.
14:55 this bait and switch was hilarious lol
For me based on Lv.8 Difficulty (hardest difficulty) playthrough experience
Hardest
No.1 Amadeus last phase
No.2 Sandmarine
No.3 Sal Dae Rokker
No.4 Rugname
No.5 Kraken
No.6 Rootmars
Also MS7/XX Mission 4 , 5 boss
Jupiter King if fight without Rebel's LV Armor
When you come from Ostrich route you don't have vehicle to fight this boss
if come from secret base route you'll have LV Armor at least you can use eject trick to avoid dmg
Invader King if fight without Slug
(fight is easy with Slug + Tarma because when Tarma ride a Slug Vulcan dmg is x1.5 and can take 6 hits while other chars when ride a Slug can take only 3 hits)
Elder Centipede (MS6 mission 4) fight is harder without Slug Flyer
(Slug Flyer destroyed during Slug flyer route or during boss fight or come from Rootmars route)
All MS1 bosses are easiest bosses even Lv.8 difficulty
especially when fight with Slug + spare alot of Grenades (40-50 if possible) before fight you can spam it and kill the boss quickly
Another infuriating thing about the Kraken is the time limit, which kills you when you reach 0. For me, the hardest boss is the Monoeye aliens from MS3, as a Zombie, you have to time it right with the blood vomit while dodging the beams.
14:56 Breh, you got us there near the end. Solid Gold!!!
My day is made. Thanks for the video! :D
My pleasure!
I can’t wait to build my home arcade to play this series. Thanks for the motivation to get back to it.
Personally the Avatar of Evil is the hardest final boss, I’ve never once managed to dodge the barrage attack successfully
Still the tricky part is you have to timing the Blood Pukes in the right moments to kill them fast before their attacks became ridiculously fast.
hey, shoryu, chris's gameplay trailer on KOF XV is dropped. l'm so happy to see team new faces / orochi is back since 2002.
I've never played 6 or 7, but Amadeus fight was like a death the moment the invincibility wore off. That's my number one and I feel validated it is high on your list!
Hey I've got an idea
Since you made a video on the best songs of KOF, why won't you make one for the best songs of Metal Slug. That game definitely has awesome themes ( with Secret Place from MS 4 being my favourite )
What do you think ?
i LOVED Sand Marine and Fall Mecha, one of my favorite bosses in the series, but they are quite a challenge.
really liked the two O'Neil fights on the list, didn't really like the Sol boss, Brain Robot is cool but i hated how it goes from hard to absolutely painful if you try to use the vehicle there, really liked Amadeus, Rootmars is pretty neat even if way too repetitive and high on health for me, HATED MS2's final boss and loved the Kraken boss. great video!
You cannot grasp the true form of Armadeus's attack! You took mortal damage.
Earthbound!
I'm happy with any video.. Time to watch the metal slug lore videos again after so long 😁
Thinking of playing the metal slug games for first time on mobile now🤔
You’re a Neo Geo God
So much knowledge
For me the top 3 hardest boss are
1 kraken
2 robo brain
3 rootmars
"There are those who could defeat these monsters blindfolded while holding the controller with their feet"
😂😂😂
I'd like to know those monsters who can do that!!
Search for Shadowserg's YT channel, there are a lot of "No death/No damage" gameplays from a lot of games, including arcade ones.
Metal Slug 7 is impossible to no-death run in DS! So you inevitably gonna die from timeout.
But still, it's safe to say no damage.
You could also make a video to rank the different factions based on how strong they each are both gameplay-wise and lore-wise. My list (only lore-wise), from most powerful to least powerful, would be:
1) Future Rebel Army
2) Mars People
3) Invaders
4) Present Rebel Army
5) Ptolemaic Army
6) Amadeus Syndicate
For me, its the avatar of evil, his annoying balls will follow you until you die but the blls probs dont stop, and when he ascends, more balls will rapidly approach the player, when thats done, he will use a scythe to send down those spear looking thingys, and it will launch out puffs of smoke if your close to it, it has a bunch of health and its hitting point is the skull, removing any more hitting points either than the skull imbedded in its chest, there
Sus part on "balls"
13:31 he died as Hero rest in peace pilot rebel guy
best stages in metal slug need a video
Worth noting that the Kraken is also stupidly tanky, I've seen some people try to kill it in one life and timer running out on them
If there's one thing that Metal Slug 4 did well, I think it's the final boss fight.
Fair point!
Kraken (MS7) also has a lot of move variety and it's much harder to beat
Definely! Other bosses are easy once you are familiarize their attack patterns but when it comes to dr.amadues i was like “ holy sht”with these attack projectiles.
Amadeus also has a very awesome musical theme. Which is just perfect for him
15:31 Think fast! What Pokémon looks like this attack?
I remember getting super bummed out when I nearly beaten Metal Slug 3 in 1 life then started losing a continue at the final boss on hard mode. So I kissed those achievements for no death on Mission 5 and no continue run on xbox live.
The final mission is about as long as doing mission 1 to 4 in MS3. I wouldn't say this series is bat shit hard compared to contra where even touching an enemy in those games kills you.
In metal slug the attacks are heavily telegraphed, each enemy action needs purpose for why your protagonist is getting harmed.
Hello shroyu
Can u plz briefly explain the story of those from the past?
I have played metal slug 1, 2, X and 3 on the Arcade when I was in studying though the Arcade is closed now.
My personal hardest will always be the Avatar of Evil from MS5. Holy crap that thing is intimidating, but man is the sprite work so good.
Yeah, that fight was epic!
same
The scrapped bosses were harder
The Invader King by far is the hardest for me.
ShoryuGame: No.1 is the Kraken
Me: Yup, sounds about right.
I can honestly say that the Rugname and Sol Dae Rokker are not hard, they are just unfair because:
...Sol Dae Rokker yellow beams are truly impossible to avoid only when the boss is enraged, so if the boss doesn't do that attack (RNG involved basically) you can easily win;
...and the Rugname is hard because of how unpredictable and sturdy the Elite Ufos are.
For me invader king is the hardest Metal Slug boss of all time
Amadeus only refers to the Doctor's (his "name") organization as well as the mother computer he is controlling 9:05
There's a line beyond a challenging boss becomes simply idioticly unfair.
He's not wrong about the number one. What makes it even harder is that if you're fighting the Kraken on hard difficulty and you're on a "No death" run. The boss won't kill you, the timer will.
While I never plaed metal slug, I did play commando growing up which was a flash game that, upon looking back, was heavily inspired by metal slug
I can easily do up to the monoeyes in MS3, they always mess me up badly.
MS3 Final mission is the hardest mission to complete without dying
Metal Slug 7 is what I think the hardest game in a cheap way. While the enemies aren't so creative, it just likes to take advantage of the terrains and platforms making it hard
I forget how hard these games are due to unlimited continues
Metal Slug has insane boss designs
ooh, another video maybe, best weapons in metal slug, or maybe best vehicles.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I would say best weapons
I'd be glad watching that vidéo
Dude that story of the dude who got all that help and still lost I feel really bad for him
I'm more amused that this list didn't include sol Dae rokker and it places sand marine on 8th. Sand marine is just sol Dae rokker on the ground
Sol Dae rokker has RNG (yellow beams), that alone makes him a difficult boss to fight
I love all of your metal slug videos you rock buddy! Like be an always support the channel
Thanks a bunch!
@@ShoryuGame of course i remember i was one of the first people to sub to your channel and have since watched all your videos
