Penderecki is the greatest living composer for the symphonic orchestra. He is living to see his work take true hold. It's not even avant-garde anymore, or postmodern, but found culture. We need to return to it to rediscover the soul of Western music, which is becoming lost in lack of innovation and has forgotten how to be powerful. Oh, and his English is very good.:)
he was not, you may not eve know of the Last Master alive, named Arvo Part. Penderecki was great in Chamber orchestras and small ensembles. by the way, he was my teacher.
@@J.Livermore That’s so cool! Are you open to having conversations via email? I’d love to chat with you about Penderecki, Greenwood, and music in general so I’d appreciate it!
thx for posting this! Big fan...back in High School I volunteered to do the Penderecki essays while everyone was running in the opposite direction fast [where Mozart and Bach were offered]
The opera in question, Die Teufel von Loudun, is one of the last of Penderecki’s experimental stage. It is an EXTREMELY under appreciated work. Frank Zappa was a famous fan of the work. Very shockingly, the great Tatiana Troyanos created the main role of Abbess Jeanne.
Penderecki is to me, the absolute pinnacle of atonal music. But it wasn't just notes for the sake of notes, there's a lot of emotion in his pieces. I'm not normally a fan of the overly abstract works of his contemporaries, but I feel he stands among the greats because his music feels so human. I could imagine Beethoven would appreciate his works, as I feel Grosse Fugue was a very early hint at what would become more commonplace among modern composers. Even touches of Stravinsky at times.
Rest in peace, Mr. Penderecki. I just heard he has passed literally today. 😢😢
One of the best has gone, R.I.P. maestro Penderecki.

3:45 Stuttgart is not "a very Catholic city", Mr Penderecki. It is and has always been a mainly Lutheran town.
