The speed car you saw out there rides in a group I go with sometimes. He is the right amount of cautious when he is on his own. You can't put it all on the leader, if you want to ride fast it's on the people right behind the leader to help clean up the line and not just go where the leader goes. Watch peoples whips , it will give you an idea of what's going on if you can't see the car. When you are are following always have a direction to go if something happens right in front of you. If you get lost or fall too far behind go to the top of a dune so people can see you if they come looking. You can do comms for around $100 Uv-5r radio, antenna cable, antenna, radio holder, programming cable, helmet kit. Google how to program the radio and you can put in all the channels that are commonly used in the dunes. You don't need pci or rugged when you start out.
Been riding the dunes for a while, but only on bikes up until this year. It's taking a bit to learn more careful line choice for SxS and not just sending it wherever and being able to ride it out like I could on a bike. The consequences are much more expensive, lol.
Yes they are more expensive and you are not able to just keep Riding like usual. it’s out of commission on a wreck for the weekend. First year in a Sxs I was like eh. Now it’s really fun once I got the lines figured out better
Thanks depends on what you are wanting to do bang for your buck Packard Bigfoot comp cut. Or Stu blackbirds Stock hp just duning sand slayers are good also but you won’t win hole shots
Great video! Everyone has there own riding capability’s and you get better when you drive more and watch how others react to certain opticals. It is less pressure on yourself if your leader and crew are are looking out for you.
Where are you guys out of? I’m an AZ Part Timer that needs to buy a SXS! (Looking at a Maverick R!) Anyways, looking for guys to ride with! Will get Comms!
@@desertsxs Home is Elk Grove, CA. (Sacramento area!) Have a Condo in North Phoenix we just bought and I used to make yearly trips to Glamis and loved the best dunes ever! Out of Northern CA I want to Sand Mountain, NV which is a joke size wise! But, was the best / closest place we had!
Starting my 46th season of sand dune riding and just heard I shouldn't go slow out there cause of danger. I better not detune my 600 horse sxs. Great coming of age info.
She must be a runner nice. My point is that so many people have told me they will go slow as if that’s okay with going by yourself. I have and many friends crashed going slow.point ride with someone
I noticed the pro r has the 34” Bigfoot in the back and 33” tensors in the front. Does he run 4wd or just 2wd? I heard if you run 4wd with different size tires in the front and back it can mess things up. Is that true?
He runs 35 on his fronts now he already had 33s they just weren’t here yet. We do run 4wd I don’t think 1 or 2 inch off in sand should make much of a difference specially where all brands in a 33 measure different
Is there a cheap communication device that is comparable with the guys that have the PCI and similar radios? This would be a good suggestion to us poor folk.
Some people just buy the hand held radio but from what I have experienced you don’t get any real distance unless it’s true comms from pci or rugged. When you need it the most is when someone falls way back and I haven’t had anything work for that
@@desertsxs do they make hand held versions of PCI and rugged that you can use a earpiece with. That might be less and also effective. The frs radios I know don't have distance on some units but some say 2 to 3 miles
@@kevinstrekkie rugged does but from my personal experience nothing has worked well unless the crew is very close together. They all advertise a long range but with hills and trees that get in the way if a guy gets way back nothing works very well imo. It’s all in or nothing pretty much imo
I always ride by myself.. 1 people usually can't keep up,2 I go where I want to go and stay or leave when I want to leave. And I don't have to cater or worry about others
This video wasn’t good at all. Duning for Dummies should be something that would help people drive in the dunes. Not ripping and leaving your friends behind and talking about circling back after you lose them. Not everyone knows what “comms” are. Maybe put info in laymen terms so everyone understands. I didn’t see anything else of value. Nothing on how to approach bowls, nothing on how to turn down if you’re not going to make a hill, nothing on how to handle g-outs, nothing on how to hit whoops, nothing on safety, nothing on how close to follow people. There is nothing on even parking your vehicle in the sand, picking up your trash blah blah blah l. Shitty video in my opinion with that label “Duning for Dummies”
@Rudemau5 sorry I didn’t answer all of your issues that you could come up with. This was more specific on how to lead and how to follow as I talked about in the video. That is what the point of the video was about. That way you can ride with your friends if they are a different skill level.
Thanks for the ride along.
Glad you enjoyed it

Different when on a quad. Great video.
Ya for sure. Thank you
With that exhaust your SXS almost sound like a 2-Stroke!
Ya that’s kinda what I thought too
You should do some coverage on the SNORE series. You could always come out and take a video of the pre run and some race footage.
That would be fun
What wheels and paddle setup would you recommend for a pro r 4. Grate video.

Cardo headsets are pretty nice for around $400. Or you can go with the sph10 intercoms and they work pretty good for only $200
