I had no idea Scotland had such pristine rivers! I'm a trout fisherman from New Mexico usa, and the scenery sure is different! we got some brown trout over here too. Cheers.

Glad you enjoy the scenery here. It is rather beautiful. Some good trout fishing to be had too. The salmon fishing isnt what it used to be on alot of rivers but at least we still have a good head of trout

Hi Ian, great content as always. Myself and a good friend are giving up on the river irvine and buying ayr permits next year to fish march to June for trout and after the first summer spate, salmon on the fly mostly. We want the ballochmyle stretch but are looking to add another, possibly downstream and wider and deeper. Any suggestions? Annbank? Craigie? What would or do you fish? Hope to see you by the way and shake your hand.

Great video again mate. Wonder if I could ask your opinion on a problem? I've got myself a double handed salmon rod, a twelve foot fibre glass one, cheap off eBay but lovely. Trouble is it has no line weight marked on it. I reckon a wf 9 should do it, it's for the river Irvine mainly. What size would you think?

Hi Mate. Its hard to tell if there is no line rating but most rods of that length are btw an 8 wt and a 10 wt so you are probably about right with a 9 weight. Maybe go for a floating line and get some poly leader sink tip leaders. 5 to 10 ft. That gives you a changable poly leader to ajust how deep your fly is fishing depending on how big the river is. Hope that helps

You dont have to spend alot of money buying expensive spey lines. You wont need to cast that far as the river irvine is like the Ayr. Good size but not huge. There is a company called talon that do good lines that dont break the bank on ebay. They might even have a salmon line that floats. You will need to have a look and choose something that you like the look of
