If you watch Exit Stage Left.. I think the Hentor Sportscaster is one of the guitars he uses.. check out Limelight and Red Barchetta for sure!
U stole my comment. Spot on
Yessir! Although different pickups in that era of the Hentor! The L500 is what makes the Hentor imo
The originals used on Moving Pictures, the Hentor Sportscaster with the Bill Lawrence L500L in the bridge, and the 70s-era big headstock black Strat with the maple neck and the nickel-covered PAF in the bridge, both had 1st-gen Floyds, so they look a little different.
He used the white Hentor on the Limelight solo but the black Strat on the verses. The black one did not have the locking nut installed. The Hentor was custom-built by Veneman's Music (long since closed, now a Guitar Center) in Rockville, MD. The white one sold at auction had a number of repairs and reinforcements added to the body in the bridge area, which had become unstable due to the humbucker routing too close to the bridge posts.
On Signals, Grace Under Pressure, and some of Power Windows, he used his Sportscasters configured as we know it today.
It wasn't quite like that. On the Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures and Signal albums and tours, the 3 Fenders guitars were not Hentor yet In fact, only the white on has the name Hentor). In that period, the guitars were Fenders stock with exception of the bridge pickup that was a Gibson PAF and the Gibson style toggle switch. He used this configuration through those 3 albums and tours. By the Grace Under Pressure album he change the neck of the Fenders to a neck from a company called Shark. The Gibson pickup was change to the Bill Lawrence L500-L and the tremolo change to the early Floyd Rose Non Fine Tuner. Now the white fender has the name Hentor Sportcastrer, the black one Porkflapsocaster and the red one I think it still have the Fender neck. The only modification on this one was the Bill Lawrence pickup.
Great to hear a review by someone who knows and loves the band
Sweet guitar. The tones are so on point with Alex's style of play .
thank you!!
Great video and beautiful guitar. The ebony board looks super classy. 🙌🏽
He initially was playing the black strat at the end of Hemispheres...he put a gibson humbucker in and it evolved from there. His original white and red strats were modified by ted veneman from veneman music in Virginia...they All had humbuckers with 2 single coils and floyd rose tremolo...the toggle on all 3 moved to bottom horn and 1 tone knob removed. He changed necks on the white and black to Shark necks by Ottawa company ultimately...all his strats are highly modified. But he auctioned off the white Hentor but kept the black and red Distant Early Warning red strat,,,which is my favourite ✨️
Rush 2112 is amazing Rock!!!❤😮
God I wish I had money to burn right now. Dreamy guitar from one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
$4,000, bro....for that kind of money you can get a used white Fender Strat with rosewood board, have the frets properly leveled and crowned, install a better nut and have it cut properly, a Bill Lawrence L-500 or similar and a couple Seymour Duncan SSL-6s for the neck and middle pickups. Those upgrades would probably end up costing you $700, plus about $1,000 for a used American made Fender Strat. You end up with a great guitar and save yourself $2,300. Just make sure your luthier knows how to do a proper fret level, crown and cut nut slots. That's what I did...otherwise a used Fender Mexican made Strat ( about $600 used, less maybe if you shop around ) will do, just make sure you get the frets leveled and crowned and nut slots cut properly, that's super important for a great playing guitar. You can always upgrade hardware, ( bridge, tuners, etc ) later if needed. -Cheers !
Killer guitar! wish you guys had the amps and pedals.
I love Broon's Bane.
Cool 😎
Alex was using the electric mistress back then also that was a huge part of his sound as well as andy summers
Alex and Andy are like peanut butter and chocolate in my book.
What's the three way combination?
That humbucker looks very much similar to a bill Lawerence l500
"It opened up the ability to use the Trem bar for Alex...."
Not a real Bill Lawrence pickup is enough for me to say keep it.
Then the price……pleeaaase!!
thats not how to play freewill.
With the importance of a comfortable neck being a big deciding factor in whether or not to buy a guitar, let alone a $4K guitar, it amazes me that they don’t tell you the shape of the back of the neck! They only tell the radius of the fretboard 🤔… Makes zero sense! Not just in this video, but all the ones I’ve found on TH-cam about this guitar.
What an expensive guitar......ridiculous ...1000 dollars in parts at best
he's playing part of the Freewill riff incorrectly
Limelight too.
In product reviews, they need to vary it up for copyright reasons. It's usually deliberately wrong.
@@BigDancin Thank you for clarifying that. Could you please explain how the copyright law works? Really a shame you cannot play a cover of a song.
It sounds like he's playing Van Halen style sus chords at parts. It's definitely not correct. As @bigDancin said it could be for copyright purposes.
Yeah $3000 more than it should be...
$1k for this? we'd like to live in that world too!
A world where the price of products are set not by the market, but by random comments on TH-cam 😂
This guitar looks awesome, it’s priced right, and Tommy always delivers 😄
@@renatonyc LOL that was good. respect and thank you
Sounds like you need to stick with your Squier Strats. This one is beyond your means.
Looks like junk to me. Sounds like it too.
Can't afford it huh?
@@jem77pmc I guess I could; I normally save for a long time before I buy a "nice" one. It takes a while. This one just looks "thrown together for a name sale" in my opinion. Be well and have a good one!
