I don't agree about his 2 reasons people buy a Prius. I am considering buying one but the ONLY reason is for the gas mileage. I drive 80 miles round trip (1600 miles a month) and my current vehicle is killing me on gas. I believe the main reason people buy a Prius is for the mpg , not because they care about the environment.
I definitely agree, I drive 65 miles to and fro for school and though I have the Chevy volt I bought it more for mpg than for the environment. Definitely does save a ton of money on buying gas.
Agreed.. I drive 50 miles. Used to use a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a v6, but it would cost $50 to fill up. Then I got a 4 cylinder Volkswagen Passat and only spend about $25 a week.
The number ONE reason I drive a Prius is the great MPG! The two reasons you cited are not on my list. Frankly, I'm surprised that great MPG wasn't *your* first reason that you feel people buy this car.
I think he was joking and just trying to be funny. It can't be possible for him or anyone else for that matter to think that being environmentally conscious is the primary reason for buying a prius or any other hybrid for that matter. That is just plain ignorant.
"Trying" to be funny. Yeh, what a joke that is for idiots who regard this planet as a piece of real estate they can dominate while they kick scientists in the shins.

At $109k, I don't think Tesla drivers really care about other people using gas either..those Tesla Roadsters are wayy overpriced -- they're slow for their price range and are some $40-50k more than a comparably performing car (ex: the Porsche Boxster S). That'll buy some 8-10 years of gas...at $10/gallon.
Chip to make the exhaust sound louder? Really now? The purpose of chips/tuners is to get more power/efficiency out of an engine. If normal people want a louder exhaust, they simply install a new exhaust system and possibly remove the catalytic converters in the process (no! not the catalytic converter!). But of course you wouldn't know that, which is expected if you like the Prius.
The Prius will get you from point A to point B very efficiently, but is that seriously all people look for in a $24-30k+ car? Fuel efficiency is quite literally the only thing it has going for it, but it has no other attributes of a "good" car.
