    Ryan Martine was my main inspiration to play bass guitar. Even got a Warwick Thumb five string just like his in my twenties. Ended up selling it so i could get a army tent and sleeping bag, in a way that bass saved my life.

    Ryan Martini is the best metal bassist of all time. Definitely the most creative and so skilled. He changed metal bass guitar forever. Chad Gray's vocals on LD50 are so deep, dark, emotional, intricate, and very dynamic. All 4 of them are just so talented and they gel perfectly together. Mudvayne changed "nu-metal" and metal forever.

      He wrote a song called Drink Drank Drunk. Come on. He was good in Mudvayne, but Hellyeah was a steaming pile of shit. I don't take pleasure in saying that. Three of my favorite bands (Mudvayne, Pantera, and Nothingface) came together to make the worst supergroup. It bummed me out big time. I was so excited in the beginning. I bought the first and second album when they came out and that was it.

    The line "spit on my own plate" really solidified what I believed this song to be about which is self sacrifice, severing of ties, divorce from who I am right now. Either for the better (leaving a toxic situation) or for the worse (leaving your support circle, flipping the table over)

    Please do every mudvayne song 😭😭
    And spot on with the lyrics. They have tons of songs about letting go of ego, and other philosophical concepts. Though they also talk a lot about identity and thinking for yourself which almost contradicts the other work. They’re a deep band, and super ironic and don’t take themselves seriously, despite being miles ahead of their peers. I always call them Tool but with louder and shorter songs.
    I also named my company Ain Soph because of this song! Ain: nothingness Ain Soph: limitless, and Ain Soph Aur infinite nothingness is what it boils down to in basic terms
    Love that you like them 😁

    Cool conversation. I thought he was just speaking of suicide in the sense that he tries to free others of his pain, which is only done by freeing others of himself as a whole. Idk. The Patient Mental is my fav song of theirs I think. Great lyrics too. Specifically the line "I'm just like a clock upon the wall

    I think in connection with the song and Ain Soph Aur. The song is structured to reflect the 3 veils. If the song is not about the singer personally, all we need is to picture a avatar of sort. But a avatar who's in inner conflict with themselves to achieve greatness through personal growth. Needing to strip away everything negative, physical and emotional ties in oneself to achieve that goal. Like all these attachments we make as humans is a virus that we must train for to reject (or spit up on my plate and then I turn and walk away) as he puts. I think that fact he mentions Ain Soph Aur, is to connect the listener to that concept to dig this deep in the content. Not only can you now follow what is playing out in the story he tells of this avatar, but you can now pose the question of what happens to an individual who goes through these steps. Is it achievable? Is it worth it? Are you better for putting yourself though this? Just a theory but obviously it's art so it's all subjective

    Very important album and song in my teenage years. This album is a Masterpiece. Tottallly underrated and misslabeled into the whole nu metal genre and movement of the early 2000's IMO.
    I think because of this Mudvayne fell into the trap of this labeling in the way they approached all their music writing in the albums that came after.

    Supposedly, there are more Rock subgenres than Metal subgenres. Wikipedia has 150-ish articles for the former and 62 for the latter. Not a perfect way to compare the two but it does make sense. A lot of Rock subgenres just don't have "Rock" in the name. Or the "Rock" part gets dropped in everyday speech.

    I think nu metal is right for them. Nu metal, IMO anyway, is defined by metal (mainly 90s groove and alt metal) + hip hop (primarily in the back beats, not necessarily rapping vocals) + "x" (an outside influencing factor). The "x" is the most defining characteristic of nu metal, and what makes it so hard to define nu metal bands cleanly. To give a few examples: for Korn it was kind of a mix of the grunge and darker alternative stuff from the 80s and 90s, for Slipknot it was extreme metal (mainly death metal and grindcore), and it Mudvayne's case it was progressive music and jazz.

      @Kickenwing13 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well thought.

    • @jamariusjones690
      @jamariusjones690 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s somewhat true that nu metal has grooves and alternative sound but it’s more of borrowing the groove the groove sound by making it more sludgy nu form or make it a down tuned seven string, which differentiate from the groove sound( despite groove metal is a broad term), but for influence of Alternative Metal, there are certain Nu bands who uses Alternative/ groove sound but they only use a small portion to alternate influence in their music; you have used Korn self titled for your example and it’s true that Korn used grunge and alternative metal in their album but it’s only a small portion in their album and it didn’t really define their style, what defined their style from the self-titled and second/third album is the hyper anger, whispering, quite singing, down tuning, hyper anger/screaming, hip-hop( which you have included), weird singing vocals, angry shouting, refraining, harsh-death vocals, and scatting. I understand that nu-metal is hard to define but we can say for every genre; thrash metal has inconsistent sound due to power metal, death metal, crossover punk, and black metal.
      Death metal having thrash death with the combination of thrashy-punk- death shriek vocals( while playing thrash instruments)-to Cookie Monster vocals- to sludge death metal- 90’s metalcore ( hardcore) vocals or proto deathcore vocals.
      Alternative Metal have inconsistent sound too and most of them don’t sound like Faith No More or Helment.

    You both need to look into "non duality". Really takes what you guys are talking about to another level of understanding.

    This album is in a league of its own, unlike the rest of the garbage mudvayne put after this

      I think the reason this album stood out is because of Ryan. The man is an absolute machine. I just wish mudvayne didn't mute the bass in the albums that followed. The following albums would have been much better in my opinion
