Wow!!! this is fire!!! I didn’t understand where some "speedy gonzales" appeared on the left in the last meters. The guys who planned this event are funny dudes. Thanks to the author for the emotions - eggs rolled into my throat more than once.
The starting frequency between the competitors is 12 seconds, so this speedy gonzales left 12 seconds after me and managed to pass me after chasing me 7,5km😁
Well done, in also a Young Ski racer. It has to be really Hard in the legs to stay so Long in the Abfahrtshocke! 🤪How old do you have to be to take part in this Race ? Can ever1 join it ?
Yes, it is pretty heavy for your legs but the finish was on half way compared to year 2019. If you check my run from 2019 from 7min 30 seconds on then you'll see rest of the run until Lauterbrunnen (finish line 2024 and until that the same track) th-cam.com/video/GFqumJ_k758/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xChcHQn55ix5IGvG Then it was 14,9km the whole run. You have to be 18 years old and belong to some team which participates to Inferno. I don't know is it possible to have team of 1 skier. You'll find more info of the race from official websites: www.inferno-muerren.ch/en
Thanx and yep, I was wearing the same race suit as in my profile photo. It is an enormous difference in speed when you wear a race suit instead of outwear. And as a competitive person, when you have a race number on you, the only option is to ski as fast as possible...😆
This is one of the most unusual downhill "races" I've ever seen, having been in a few myself. Essentially, it is a gently guided trip from the hill's top to bottom with no real identifiable turns to speak of. Now, if you want to see "turns" performed by someone who's racing look for a slalom or GS race - HOWEVER - you may notice that the guy in the blue suit seemed to beat the guy we were part of very handily, essentially arriving at the race's end at the same time. In this case what you were seeing, given equal skis and base prep, was the ability to guide one's skis, including during turns, sharp or otherwise, without scrubbing off speed. For instance, have you ever noticed, while skiing with friends and just "running flat" - i.e. no real turns to speak of - that there was always one guy in particular - same length and type of ski with no special base preparation, who always, much to your frustration, always seemed to go faster than you...? Well, there is an art to that, a skill that some have naturally and which for others (me) can be very difficult to learn, and that was what this race was all about. And if you were ever competing against guys like that you could pole your ass off and no matter what you did, those are the guys that won races like this. Fast, flat running can be difficult to figure out - and when skiing "against" folks (gals or guys) like that, even when "not racing", which never happened for me as I (and all my friends it seemed) was always "competing" (I am a male after all 😜), could, under the right circumstances (like always 😡😡😡) be infuriating. So, at night, when we were all "sleeping" - despite regular bouncing up and down movement in some bunks - I'd sneak outside and cut their skis in half. Good hills, good snow, good conditions to you all. You're enjoying the best sport in the world ❤️❤️❤️
You are right, this is quite unusual race. All together, 1850 competing on a same day. Every 12 seconds, one starts. Behind the link, you can see the race course map. The start is in about 2,9km high, and this year, the finish line was in point Z2. When there is enough snow, then the finish line is in point Z1 (7,5 km longer race course than this year). www.inferno-muerren.ch/en/facts-and-figures/race-course Have done it once, year 2019 and if you check my race run from that year from 7 min and 30 seconds on ward (continues from this year's finish) you'll see the rest of the race course also. th-cam.com/video/GFqumJ_k758/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BxwF1p8zdOGGuKwk Totally agree, this is absolutely fabulous sport! Great skiing for you and your friends also!
@@VilleVahla If we were located 'round the same hill, and if I was young enough to still ski without making an "ow!...fuck this hurts!" noise over and over (while my wife, a retired Olympic athlete...look up Debbie Brill...says, over and over, oh FFS be quiet) I suspect you and I could have a very good time skiing together. I was a sports med/addiction medicine specialist, and strength coach (now retired) and thoroughly enjoyed a variety of sports, especially skiing. While doing so, and at a very slow pace, while shaking the new powder out of goggles (not paying attention) I slowly skied into a small river and broke my leg in 3 places. The fall seemed to be in slow motion until I heard a very loud "CRACK" at which time things got very fast and very (my profession likes to use the word "exquisitely" in cases like this) painful. Following 3 years of frustratingly slow recovery I went back to skiing and skied better than ever for some odd reason. After meeting my wife (instantly in love) I gave up skiing while raising a family. Thirty plus years we're still together and live on almost an acre of the most beautiful situation imaginable...mountains, ocean, islands in full view, and a 100 yard walk to the beach....and gardens ++++ If you're ever on Vancouver Island, come visit us...
@douglascoleman1252 Thank you! I will visit if I pop by on Vancouver island, although it's a bit far away from Helsinki😄 Skiing with good friends is best what you can do on skis and we do it once in a year in this competition. We have a strong team in Inferno Rennen, and everyone in our team has some kind of background on racing in skiing. One of my friends has raced in alpine world cup and Olympics, and some of them in moguls WC/Olympics. This year, there were 3 of us in top 11 in the category men +50 years. 2nd, 3rd, and I was 11th (all together a little under 400 racing in that category). It's pretty well done by the Finnish guys who don't have even any mountains in their flat country😆. In my youth, I played goalkeeper in Finnish football premier league, so I have faced several injuries too. Several knee and finger surgical operations, so I know also how it takes time to recover, but I haven't faced that bad injury what you unluckily experienced. Anyway, all the best to you and your wife!
Sorry! I speak only Finnish, Swedish, English, German and Italian, so I can't reply to your comment because I don't understand what you wrote. Hopefully, it was something fun😁
