The TBS Boar ticks all of these boxes. It is a good quality bushcraft knife that is not made in large quantities like some knives. My dad is a butcher and today I looked through his old knife box and I found a Bush craft knife just need to sharpen it a bit. Good knife though. Great channels Ta outdoors and Ta fishing.

I hear a lot of people don't use their knife with a fero rod due to fear of damage to the knife but the fero is a lot softer than the steel and would never wear down the steel
yes it does. the reason knives need sharpening is cas material is removed from both parties when you cut something. even it it removes way less it still roles the edge completely removing its sharpness. god it makes me cringe when people do it
I got mine in today. It is freakin' gorgeous! My search for a wonderful knife at a reasonable price is over! This thing is amazing. I got the Nordic dangler.... I cant say enough about this blade. Be sure you convert your currency to UK Pounds correctly if you have to save for the purchase. I got a lesson in how weak the US Dollar really is. I recommend to everyone!!!!!!!

It's a very well designed high quality sheath. I love the horizontal option. The fire steel should be mounted on the edge though. Not like a wart catching every grass/branch/bush on the front. Great traditional 🔪 knife blade design.

I used to have a rws excalibre pcp air rifle with a Turkish walnut stock and this knife would have went beautifully with that. seems like a great setup for the money.

Back again after enjoying my Boar for eight months and it is still A1 ! I have become a Big Defender for TBS over what two Young Dutch Boys have said about this Knife on their Review Channel and of course the Big supplier They Pimp for does not sell TBS knives surprise surprise ! I have since stopped buying from Dutch Company's and now have Bought several Knives from TBS and I Rate them all A1 so keep up the good work TBS !
K720 is the same as O2, which is similar to O1. It's a well proven low alloy steel with good toughness and decent edge retention. It sharpens fairly easily as well.

I picked up the TBS Grizzly w curly birch but
I don’t know if I’m as pleased as I thought I’d be w the BLO.. the birch just hasn’t responded as id hoped. I know you did the same w your TBS [Boar] But you went w the Turkish Walnut - it darkened as you hoped and seems richer if that makes any sense. My goal is to lengthen the life while enriching overall... but I’m not feelin /seein it guys.
I have my 2nd TBS coming; the Lynx. I went w the Olive wood this time. I met a TH on the AT w Olive and loved it - and need to nail down this wood care Mike - a few others mentioned wax... ?!? All suggestions, opinions, experiences are encouraged and will be appreciated-
hello, I wanted your advice, I'm looking for a sturdy and reliable bushcraft knife that I can count on during my outings in nature, in your opinion since I prefer stainless steel for greater practicality, the Nordic 14c28n steel Joker knife in your opinion is it a good choice? This is a great knife, having said that, did you use linseed oil the scales for so long as they were so dry and when removed from the sheath they looked like they had been sanded in places ❓I ask as mine does exactly that 😫

Use food grade mineral oil for the coating of the blade. It allows you to prepare food with it, and still use as a tool.
Good ergonomic handle, good size blade, but the high carb is a nightmare to sharpen, it rusts very quickly, once you start the the sharpening process the blade quickly loses the initial shine.
well i may have got my research a bit mixed up mate, (by the way i had already decided to buy this exact knife, but with the dc4 sharpening stone holder included) but i think you may have mis explained a little, the high carbon tool steel is HARDER to sharpen as its a harder steel NOT EASIER, that being said, once sharpened properly, will hold its edge a lot longer before dulling.... which is why i chose it, it will take more effort to sharpen, but will be less likely to have to do so in the field... good video though buddy, am glad i chose that setup now..., good idea with the linseed oil, might have to copy you on that... ;)
+Kieran Kinnear Hi Kieran, I actually think it's down the particular material of the knife itself. It can be very subjective, but with a scandi grind the knife is far easier to sharpen anyway. It's actually very easy to sharpen, and much easier than many of the stainless steel knives out there. It all depends on the carbon content of the blade as well as the other chemicals that make it up.
As for the knife itself, it really is AWESOME! I love it, and using the linseed oil has made the finish on it fantastic as the scales on it were quite dry when I first received it. If you're going to use linseed oil, be aware that cloths may spontaneously combust ;)

+Kieran Kinnear Even high carbon tool steel is still easy t sharpen. Hardness really isn't the determining factor. Abrasive resistance is, and even extremely hard steels are often have very little abrasive resistance.

In my personal experience high carbon steel is usually easier to sharpen than stainless ones, due to the different elements in stainless steel (chrome, vanadium, etc.). A lot of how easy a knife is to sharpen and how good it holds an edge is up to the hardening process too. So give the same steel to two different smiths and depending on the individual hardening process and skill you will get two completely different knives.

Iv just become an ownerof the carbon steel version .its a drcent tool , its much easier to sharpen than my A Wright bushcraft knife , suggesting its slightly softer steel . I still reach for the Wrights it is nicer and thicker steel , the brass pins and huge lanyard hole well thought out . I think your paying £50 for the sheath on my tbs boer ,
At the right price I would buy one of these, but I can't convince myself to pay the prices TBS are asking. If they didn't have the added cost of the over designed sheath I'd get this item.

Lovely dark is pants at night when i tend to set up camp . Iv walked away from dark handled knives at night . thats why the originals Always had light coloured handles .
K720 is basically 02 steel.

hello, I've just discovered your great video, and would like you to tell me how to get in contact with this TBS workmanship, because I live far away from Europe.
Here, despite many I can only equip myself with local blades of terrible quality to be replaced (they even cannot be sharpened, due to their thinness !) every month and incapable of carving up, or even skin game.

check out cpm 3v. amazing steel i have a bradford gaurdian 4.5 in 3v and its fantastic. not too difficult to sharpen and will stain abit if left in water but with common sense will be fine. incredibly tough and stays sharp for weeks.

You can only buy that knife from the Bushcraft store mate just Google that name and you'll find there online shop, regarding knife laws in the U.K. you may only carry a non fixed non locking blade of three inches max without legal or just cause, if you buy that knife and are stopped by plod in a public place or even woodland where you don't have permission to be you will be locked up.When carrying a knife above the legal size to a campsite etc carry it in your backpack and when travelling in your vehicles put it in the boot. hope that helps!

Buy yourself the stainless one :o sounds weird but it has a higher carbon content then the high carbon one .. i know weird right ? But check it out on their website !! I've been talking to TBS because i was having doubts between the 2 versions. They told me that both are great steels but that the N695 stainless is easier to sharpen and is more rust resistance. The N695 has a 5mm thick blade and the K720 (O2) has a 4mm. That was the only difference they could give. Because of that i ordered a N695 one now :D
I was surprised by Real Steel Bushcraft 2 in d2 steel $54.00 US dollars, it's made in China but looks decent.
I have a real steel in d2, I'm no expert but I like it and it's great value for money about £50, picked up a left handed Ben orford sheath with fire steel loop on the edge second hand for £10 and I'm sorted. Love this channel Mike thanks a lot.

I've used this knife for a bit. I didn't like it. I am used to smaller blades like a mora. This is big and clumsy when it comes to crafting and carving. If u like chopping and batoning this is ur knife tho.

Mora Carbon is a good starter blade for anyone.
Save up and buy a good fixed blade in the $100 range the difference in quality is unreal. After $150 price starts to pump up over little nit picky details and gimmicks.
3D Maker Kid its realy not that bad my best bushcraft knife is a bark river paid 350€ for that sucker and its amazing so if i where you i would save up a bit and buy something for about 100-150
bucks and if you just cant get over spending that amount i would go for a mora they go from about 15 bucks and are pretty good, not the most pretty but hey at least they are only 15 €

Yes stainless is crap needs machine sharpening , and i hate linseed oil . Bet you couldnt resist doing the sheeth and your boots too .. silicone oil is the best water repellant out there .. and its clear too , doesnt smell like a desert dwellers sock

beware the laws in this country regarding carrying knives they are strict.
Indeed they are. But the law is common sense really. Don't carry the blade around openly in a public area, and you must have a reasonable use for it. i.e - a filleting knife for fishing etc.
+TA Outdoors Yes it is but when you're away from the area of use put it away out of reach don't just throw it on your car seat. Don't forget you have it and go somewhere for a cuppa with it on your belt or in your pocket. I would urge anyone to ask at the local police station. What one person sees as reasonable need the law may not. For example if you have a knife in the woods it may seem reasonable enough but why do you actually "need" it? what are you going to cut ? why can't you manage without it? and what if someone says you waved it at them. There is a 2 year prison sentence. One of the guys on the vans got in hot water because he went for a cup of tea in a cafe with his stanley knife on his belt. All I'm saying is ask for yourself and be aware.
+David Harvey you are very right there David. I agree, the need to research the matter is important as it needs to be clear what the purpose is that you are using the knife for. It is actually maximum of a 4 year prison sentence I believe. But I believe bushcraft to be a lawful activity and I feel I have perfectly good reason to be using the knife. I'm also on private land. Again, it does come down to some common sense. However, this video is not a video designed for knife law, it is merely a knife review. There is plenty of information out there regarding knife law, it's up to people to do the research and make themselves aware of the legislation
