Hey all, I realize that this tech is not new but it was a blast to use, especially this summer. If you have any other telescope related stuff you would like to see let me know.
You can see more things with bigger aperture, so the DX can show more detail because of the higher aperture. The Barlow lens can be bought separately for 30-50 bucks
Struggling with focusing on the DX130 may have been issues with collimation, which is the alignment of the primary and secondary mirrors. Whenever it's moved around, bumped, etc it could knock the mirrors out of alignment, so it could have just been an issue of collimation being knocked out during shipping of the DX130. On that note, a word of warning on the LT114. Collimation on the LT114 will be extremely difficult because it's a bird-jones style reflector vs the standard reflector design of the DX130. This is also the reason the LT114 has a longer focal length, despite being physically shorter. A standard uses a parabolic primary mirror onto a flat secondary mirror, while a bird-jones uses a spherical primary and a correcting lens to get rid of spherical aberration, the process of which doubles the focal length in the exact same manor as a 2x barlow lens, so the choice to include a barlow with the LT and not the DX is puzzling to me. The correcting lens gets in the way of any tool used during collimation, which is what makes it incredibly hard. Any mirror-based telescope will need collimation throughout its life, so keep that in mind.
this is the best and clear review for LT114 AZ review i found so far. i m also a very beginner and trying to find my very first telescope. looks like i m gonna go with LT 114 then. thx for the great (unfortunately rather short) review.
THANK YOU. This was the best video I’ve found on this. I appreciate you for going into detail with everything. I just bought the LT 144az and was so confused as to why the app wasn’t working and was sending me in the opposite direction of what I was even looking for 🤦🏻♀️
hey i have the same issue with it telling me i’m facing west or east when i’m always south south west??? how did you overcome this issue as it’s killing me 😩
Beginniner here as well. I got the Celestron DX 130AZ recently, and was immediately impressed with the build quality. I wasn't expecting much since it was only a few hundred dollars. Not sure how you set it up in 5 minutes, since it took me over 30. It's been enjoyable checking out the night sky, especially with my little kids. I think this model is a great value. I hear you about lugging the thing in and out of the house, so afterwards I bought a pair of Celestron astronomy binoculars. Really great to have both options.
Charles i do astrophotography as a hobby. My lens, camera, and tripod weigh more than the dx. It’s bulkier for sure, but it is a breeze to move around. My dad has a fancy telescope and Try moving a celestron cgem 1100 with weights and the 40pound tripod.
Nice review. I'm not sure that the app ever sinks with the telescope as you said. I think you align your phone to the telescope, then your phone takes pictures which the app can 'plate-match' to its database of the night-sky and hence know where your [aligned] scope must be pointing. Sounds like the app had trouble interpreting the pictures your phone took. I would be interesting to know if there are any recommended phone-camera settings. E.g. presumable your phone needs to be focused on infiinity for most objects.
I sneer at smartphone fetishism and screens everywhere but if that's what it takes to get millennials and zoomers into astronomy, great. Bravo Celestron!
btw, not all telescopes have an upside down image - only reflectors do. Refractors and CAT scopes have a reversed (mirror image) right side up. So the Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 102AZ Refractor will have a right side up mirror image. It will not be upside down.
Love the review, but I am afraid your scope may not have been collimated correctly. Newtonian’s require a precise alignment of the mirror system or the focus will not work correctly. I am sure you would have a superior image of many deep sky objects with the DX if you had it correctly set up! It’s a simple process, but requires a little practice.
Just wondering if the fact that your phone had no cell service (NO SIM @ 5:11) and I assume only using wifi made a difference in the phone not communicating with Starsense databases ?
Are mini telescopes any good ? Can you use see any planets? Is there any way to add to your phone to turn into telescope without buying a buying an actual telescope?
The phone and app on these particular telescopes work as your compass to the sky. You will need a phone adaptor and another phone to place in the "looking eyepiece" and take pics or vids swith it :)
Wow this always inspires me more im already doing astronomy and im 11 i also create astronomy videos all my friends think you can't see planets or any nebulae or any of star cluster or even meteor showers they get worried when i tell thers gonna be a meteor shower they think that world is ending lol
Nooooo jajaja... complained about the application because it came out and it was cloudy !!! Moreover, I think that if it does not match it is because it is a mobile phone it does not do its job well, advice change the mobile, try other models, Samsung, Xiaomi, etc.
if you buy any star sense scopes PT Barnum is looking for you!, they are replacing the computer with YOUR cell phone. but the price is the same as it would have been, had it really came with a computer. hope you don't mind paying 500 dollars more, than a regular celestron power seeker 114mm. btw bad focus is probably caused by spherical aberration, as they use these mirrors instead of a more expensive parabolic mirror!.
3:15 how it scan when cant see many stars on sky with eyes only one that i think its saturnus or jupiter wanted buy telescope last year bcoz i see mars atleast it says on every starmap it is funny did not see any other stars mayby vega. just want buy telescope so i can corfirm is my turtle eyes see to saturn and jupiter LOL but every video bout quality suck LOL
Hey all, I realize that this tech is not new but it was a blast to use, especially this summer. If you have any other telescope related stuff you would like to see let me know.
Which one is capable enough to see the rings on Saturn?
@@kairavshah The LT was a little better because it provided a much closer view but either one is fine as long as you use the 10mm lens.
You can see more things with bigger aperture, so the DX can show more detail because of the higher aperture. The Barlow lens can be bought separately for 30-50 bucks
I definitely want more telescope reviews and comparisons :) Great job Mitchell
Just got my LT, thanks CNET!
straight to the point, easy to understand, no nonsense, this guy needs to have his own review channel. I need more Mitchell before I buy anything.

do you know if the new 127 AZ has this bird-jones style reflector?

Hilarious comment, made my day a bit brighter. Thanks!

Celestron Astromaster 130 EQ is one of the best beginner's telescope
I just got the dx 130 right now for Xmas I’m super hyped to use it
I have the LT 114 one it’s soo cool
I got it on my birthday after Christmas
@@gabrielnba2473 same. It’s awesome!
How is it, Also did you buy additional lens?
Same here! I’m so excited.
Celestron Inspire 100az is one of the best beginner scopes.

Outstanding review. I'm in the market for a kind of more advanced beginner telescope. I've seen many videos and this is by far the best. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! :)
I would recommend the NexStar evolution/SE

How did you click pictures? Does it support a smartphone adapter?
Also, can you post pictures of plantes through the telescopes?
Did you find a solution how to take pictures?)

Great video, might go buy a telescope and stargaze high tomorrow
Nice this is the kind of content I like
Hi what is the name of the music at 0:43? Thanks for the video btw!
This might be great for my niece.
Detailed information
I'm a big fan of maksutov cassegrain telescope and I have a small C90 as my companion. This one is the planet killer.
Cnet Rocks 😎
sweet man thats sick!!!
Should you buy additional Lens for the DX 130?
No se puede alinear el telescopio con la app en el día?
Just wondering if the fact that your phone had no cell service (NO SIM @ 5:11) and I assume only using wifi made a difference in the phone not communicating with Starsense databases ?
Can I use another star app for this telescope or do I have to use the one they use?
Celestron needs to do something about all those clouds. ;)
did you ensure they were both colimated before use?
Are mini telescopes any good ? Can you use see any planets?
Is there any way to add to your phone to turn into telescope without buying a buying an actual telescope?
5:32 you are expected to look out your window.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Sir I'm beginner but I like to buy telescope one time, I'm planning to buy 10" Star Scan Dobsonian, is good for me
Wow this always inspires me more im already doing astronomy and im 11 i also create astronomy videos all my friends think you can't see planets or any nebulae or any of star cluster or even meteor showers they get worried when i tell thers gonna be a meteor shower they think that world is ending lol
wow thats nice im 11 and i do astronomy stuff too also rocketry
look for astronomy or Star Gazing Groups in your area. We have a great group here on Mt. Diablo SF Bay Area,
I have the newest iPhone pro Max I’m assuming I’m in good graces with the phone’s camera in regards to this telescope ?
Can you see Saturn /Jupiter clearly on this telescope ?
I have a starsense explorer DX 130AZ. I want to see it more clearly. But i want know if i can use the Barolow lens
I just wanna see what is pulling our galaxy. But the space dust is blocking my view.
a link to the Celestron's app would be much appreciated
Goto da appstore your welcome
Great video 👍
The app confused me I need help how to use it and how to find stuff.
U couldn't see the stars? Brehh
while that cool i still prefer a 3 or 4 star alignment system
original Celestron
OMG This is so cool! Thanks soooooo much CNET!! Your the best!!😄😄😊😊 Also First
Bro, the dx is like 10 pounds. It weighs less than my dlsr kit for astro.
It is to lightweight for anything serious, but it is 10kg, not 10 pounds. Still very lightweight.
@@Samlaren you’re right. It’s listed as 18 pounds. It doesn’t really even feel that heavy though.
Hopefully I can spot a ufo.
the LT just went up on price by $300....smh
yes..my $300buy..Lt ohoh
I have always wanted to get a telescope to see Saturn’s rings. Do either of these allow you to see the rings of Saturn?
The LT was a little better because it provides a closer view but either one is fine.

$179.00 at Best Buy, November 2021
Who else clicked cause they thought the video was a *smartphone vs telescope* comparison
✋
Wut
nope wth.
Rather buy Dobsonian and this flimsy wiggly shaky junk.

Sorry, but my CGX is way better, this might be okay for kids.
Bruh. Don’t compare apples to oranges. This is literally a starter telescope for people to get into astronomy
