MPCNC - A Beginner's Guide to your first job!

  • Here's a guide on how to get your MPCNC doing it's first job! I'll walk you through connecting, moving the machine with Repetier Host buttons and g code commands, auto-squaring, setting your coordinate system to 0,0, and executing your first job.
    I only finished my machine less than a week ago and have only run a handful of jobs since then. Since the "beginner lessons" are still fresh in my mind, I wanted to make a video for my fellow beginners to help get you started.
    First, follow all the instructions on the V1 Engineering website and install all the appropriate software. Here I'm using Repetier Host to control my machine through the USB port. I've already installed all the appropriate software and drivers. I've also already checked to make sure my machine moves in the correct directions when I give it commands.
    Important note! My machine has Dual End-Stops installed and I've already done a few test drawings/plots with the pen to make sure they were calibrated to square. You'll want to do that if you have dual end-stops. If you don't have dual end-stops, you can skip the squaring steps involving G28. You'll instead want to physical make sure you gantry is square before you start the job.
    Lastly, your first jobs should definitely be with a pen plotter, not a router, unless you know what you're doing. Try to draw the crown or a couple other things. I made a quick drawing with some circles and rectangles of known length so I could measure how accurate and square my machine was before I strapped the router on. Practicing with the pen is very forgiving. Take your time and go slow so you don't crash the machine or the tool into something!

    Cool stuff man thanks for sharing. I am currently printing and assembling all my parts, this video will help me in a couple weeks when I get it all together! Keep the content coming!

    Great video! It's somewhat rare to see videos in this context i.e. how to setup and start cutting for the first time. Thanks! Oh and your channel title made me LOLOL! Awesome.

    Wow. I've had my MPCNC for at least a year and only until just a few months ago was I really starting to get comfortable using it. I know my learning curve has been steep and slow and I accepted that. :) I'm only 7 minutes into your video and have already learned a ton. This is going to fuel my next push to level up my CNC skills on MPCNC. Love the short and succinct explanations. Can't wait to finish the last 5 minutes but I had to say that now. :)

    Nice video, did you install Z probe yet? how about the Edge Find Probe? Would you do a tutorial for that? many questions on this matter in v1eng....

    hi thanks for the video built my mpcnc right after i built my house. have been doing home repair since than now started it again and when i do g28x my z axis starts to move down into the build area. I can control the z with the manual controls. Have had issue with the thing going into the end stops and not stoping I even reflashed firmware. than again with endstops as True to invert them they are no
    any help please.

    To set my Z axis I eyeball it as close to the material as possible then slacken the chuck until the tool drops to the material I then just tighten it up and it is set perfectly

      That's a pretty clever way to do it. Before I had a Z probe, I did the piece of paper method. Drop the Z by 0.1mm until the bit grabs the piece of paper and it won't slide around anymore.

    Do you have a video on your configuration settings by any chance?

  • @ciscokid925
    @ciscokid925 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I may end switching over to this software as opposed to Estlcam. I find this is much easier to zero in on the Z axis with out without the probe simply by using gcode commands

    I'm using the rambo board how do you get repetier host to operate the second x and y motors buddy as I can only operate 1 x and 1 y motor at the moment

    Can you provide me with all the files that I need into one folder as I don't know what files I need as there are so many files in different location also I don't know which electronic parts I need or how to wire them up, as well as the software. I would be simpler if I could we everything I need in one folder so I can work from there is this possible? Thanks.

    any suggestions as to why my computer will not communicate with my control board? Ive followed all your steps in both videos but can't get a connection anywhere.

      @gump1119  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, can't offer you much there. I'd check USB drivers. You might need to download something. I'd search the name of the board plus the word drivers and see if that does it.

    Could you share the file for the belt tensioners they look pretty clean

    • @gump1119
      @gump1119  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used these ones but the print settings are finicky to get a good fit. If you search thingiverse for MPCNC belt, there’s a few similar tensioners that I might have used instead.

    What size is your MPCNC? Looks like a good size

    • @gump1119

      The footprint is about 24" x 24". I think the work area was about 12 x 8 ish, about the size of a sheet of paper. Approx 3" Z height. Doubling a dimension increases deflection by a factor of 8 so small is best for a rigid machine.

      Hey. 12”x8”x3”. I made it very small and with stainless steel tubing to make it as rigid as possible for cutting aluminum.

    Awesome video man and yes there isn’t much out there on these for visuals. Lot of forum help but doesn’t clear things up as much as the videos.
    Been awhile on this buddy but I am sorting through a difficult curve and hoping maybe can get some direction from ya.
    Do you have an email or a Facebook I could reach out to ya?
