Is this the Future of Boating? Navier 30 Electric Flying Boat
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 21 ก.ย. 2024
- This is the Navier 30 electric flying boat that behaves much like an airplane once it's out of the water. Two propellers on the aft foils are driven by Borg Warner electric motors. At cruising speed it gets the equivalent of 35 miles per gallon. What do you all think?

That's badass. Assuming it's got some range. Nothing like dead batteries in the middle of a storm.
Horrible assumption. If a semi is good for 150mi vs 1250mi for a reg truck how could a BOAT be any better?
А если на топляк налетает ?
Range and recharge time
Does it come with paddle or engineering software that calculates return-to-base-
What about the sharks getting electrocuted?
Hydrofoils have been out for a very long time, simply making them electric isn't suddenly going to make them revolutionary.
Correct

Perhaps not, BUT "flying" the hull may shift the speed & range equation for electric power, and in the right direction, THAT could be revolutionary.
Cant wait for the videos of people trying these in three or four ft chop.
Что ты несёшь?
It goes smooth.
They actual work pretty good. But they are all limited to a maximum size wave. How ever they can still function as a normal boat
@@vanceharmon3481so what's the point if its useless in the rough? Start to get it now..
@@direstrait5418 I have lived my life in the yachting world. I have no uses for a boat like that. However the giant TRIMARAN'S that use the hydrofoils actually do pretty good. But I can't afford a 80 foot trimaran either 😕
Requires a deep draught - and not to forget to retract foils when returning to shallow waters. !!
Floating log enters the chat
They have break away pins on the foils for just such an event
Good one. I like that.
@@live2boat to the foils have a cable or other secondary connection as well? Foils probably don’t float.
I thought the same thing. And even if it’s made to break away, it’s gonna be wild when it does.

Now let's see in some good waves
Great concept but I like Diesel power
Twin V8 - Dieselpower
I prefer steam engines. /s
la potencia es la potencia y da lo mismo que sea por explosión que por electricidad se puede ver la misma potencia con un motor de explosión que con un motor eléctrico
I love the smell of diesel in the morning!
A nice pair of Detroits and Cats or Manns makes me happy.
Same design from the electric powered surf boards almost. Neat.
Oh yeah I forgot about that. Fun!
Achei o design horrivel , um caixote dentro do casco.😱😱😱
One more thing, at least when it starts to burn because of high discharge demands and rate, it will already be in/on the water.
Ironically one of the worst things to happen on a boat is a fire lol

I like this idea. See how the transom rises out of the water with faster speeds.
Duhh
Till you hit floating ocean debris and are stranded Bc a leg snapped off😂
Ya a little exaggerated, boat companies don’t just develop new stuff without considering everything, but the best part you lose the front foil you still have a boat hull. And for the engines nothing is different then a regular outboard except it’s a little longer and has a bigger wing.
Never happened to the hundreds of crossings hydrofoils made in Sydney, Australia.
This style of boat has been in use for many years.
I have seen holes in hulls and lower units ripped completely off from hitting debris also.
@@buddtwin2yeah your right when has a company produced an electric prototype and then abandoned it bc it was trash idea… electric Harley, hover scooters flip touch screens.
The whole point of the boat is the legs so if it breaks it’s just trash that can’t be used

I love it but we need to fix charging time
6 to 8 hours for a full charge. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad though 🤷🏼
@@live2boatit's only takes 2 to 5 mins to fill my gas boats... so it's a MEGA HARD 😂

@@live2boatDamn that's pretty bad, the similar Candela C8 boat with hydrofoils (that this is based on) charges in something like 40 minutes.

I hope they put a generator onboard to take over for the batteries and just use battery power for coming in to the docks and out. Electric motors great for primary propulsion as long as the power is being generated onboard and maintaining charge on the batteries. I like to have the batteries as backup and mooring power only.
Using a gas turbine generator would be nice.
A Prius boat in other words?
Theae batteris are like tesla power walls. 2 per motor. You do have to charge for 4 to 6 hrs though.

So nachhaltig! Bin so stolz!
Let’s see it in type 2 and type 3 conditions
It’s a flat water design.
Why would we want to do that when that's not what it's engineered for?
@@tcbowen12 I think he’s a serious boater, maybe sailor (as am I) and he’s simply pointing out the utility of at least a semi displacement hull. I personally like a Porsche and a motorcycle to go fast and on the water I don’t like to go faster than 7 or 8 kts. I head for water for calm-therapy. Not for thrills. Different strokes. Except that my wake never bothers anyone else and I make very little noise and leave no smoke. But this is what makes a horse race.
I was being serious I just want to see what it can do.
it can work as a normal displacement type boat in those situations, the foils retract and the outboards move up.
My only experience with flying boats ( flugeboot ) A phonetic, of the Danish word for flying boat, was a trip to Malmo Sweden from Copenhagen. I had never been on such a craft and totally enjoyed myself. Incredibly smooth ride but a little noisy. Jytte was , in 1971, my Danish girlfriend, and she took me on this excursion. Danmark was the most friendly country I've ever lived in. I enjoyed their awesome beers 🍻 i.e. Red Erik's and Carlsberg Elephant beer. That and a shot of "Akivat", which translates into " The Water of Life". ❤❤❤

Also won’t worry about waves.
70hp 3cyl johnson. Hours of boating on a 5gal tank. Wouldnt trade it for anything even 4 stroke, let alone electric junk.
What has this long existing design to do with electric power? If that design was superior boats were already like this.

no wake coming from the boat means full blast in a no wake zone 😂
45 minutes and you gotta plug it In for 6hrs
And... probably no less that 1-2 million pounds of minerals had to be mined in order to obtain the copper, Cobalt & lithium, etc. required for building this electric boat (outside/separate of the hull & windows/roof).
teslas run for longer than 45 minutes...
And the ‘who the fck didn’t plug this in last night’ can be heard at the bottom of all the boat ramps.

Hydrogen fuel is the future. Not batteries.
Hydrogen is not a fuel, it's means of storing energy and all the the existing means of separating hydrogen from whatever it's bonded to are very inefficient.

No, it's actually batteries. Unless you're talking very distant future.

This is a old concept. Hydrofoils have been around for decades. Add battery engines and all the sudden it’s new technology? No. Is it the paint job that has you hyped? No. Then what is it? Could it be that they say they are flying when in fact they aren’t? No. Could it be impressive because they own it and you don’t? Probably.

The US Navy had a class of large hydrofoils and have long ago decommissioned them. Making them electric is not going to solve any of the problems that caused them to be decommissioned.

The problem with a military hydrofoil should have been clear before it was drawn up. Weight such as armor, guns, munitions and such is not ideal on foils. Then you have fuel consumption.
@@davidwickboldt712 exactly. The mission needs to be clearly defined. The hydrofoil can give you speed and stability you can’t get from other surface vessels. It can carry more than a helo. Its firepower has to be light and devastating. It should be unmanned again to avoid weight. It could be a swarm delivery vehicle. If it could submerge to stay covert, that would also be a good feature. There would need to be drone refueling to support. The whole maze of technology would have to be so reliable that people were not needed to maintain them. Given the sad state of our system engineering these days I wouldn’t give it a high probability of success.
It's the helicopter of boat hulls, requiring power to left besides power to move, compared to a displacement hull. Planning hull also uses power to lift, obviously less than the small foils require per contact area. Huge foil benefit is wasting minimal power on drag.
People don't like change but change is inevitable!!
Sorry to tell you, but being a dumbass is incurable. Hopefully you will have better luck next time.

Changing to junk is inevitable, changing back to reliability is also inevitable.

@@drvovruok - I'm confused.
This concept is not new, has been around for ages. It's the most efficient boat due to low water drag but requires calm seas. I crossed from Tallinn to Helsinki on a huge passenger ferry with ski planes maybe 15-20 years ago. Smooth and fast
That boat can carry 2 passengers. Batteries are heavy as F and don't let them get wet or salt water ..... boom! Oh 1 more thing batteries over heat.... guess what they stop working and could explode.
At least they are trying to minimize pollution, fuels will be around longer than anyone at this moment.
Electric boats and cars neat but no thanks
That's great this type of water population will keep our waters clean and free of oils gas and any other type of chemicals 😊
Non polluting. Quiet. Smooth ride. The beginning of the end for polluting smoke burners.
I will be proud if this boat was built in the US, but my guess it was not…
Where do you think the electricity comes from? Coal, it pollutes.
@@gsp49 coal, gas, nuclear, renewable.. depends on supplier and location.
That'll free up the polluting smokers for the electric generators. Or, mzybe we'll use a 3rd form of energy to produce this 2nd form. Or, maybe we'll figure something else out.
Ok will need charging as well. Another great idea 😮
Oh my God it's a hydrofoil. The dumbest thing about it it's electric
А подводные крылья были изобретены в `30 годах. И чего тут футуристичного?
That boat Look so cool 🎉❤
Wonder how many fossil fuels it took to charge those batteries….
Именно !
Гениальный вопрос!
Lots of coal!
The minute u hit the tree stump! 😂
No for one very simple reason, ITS NOT A BOAT, those of us who love being on the water want our boats to rise and fall with the waves, we want to feel the deck rolling beneath our feet, to hear the water splashing aside as our bow cuts through the wave. This is a toy, it just happens to be a toy using hydrodynamics. Sure there will be some who prefer the technology over the nautical-ology but its not a boat, never will be a boat and will never replace the boat.
It's use case specific.
Mostly these are designed as water taxis and archipelago commuters. If I'm commuting over the water every day I'd rather it was smooth and quiet.
But technically it's still a boat.
With the aid of Mother Nature, I can travel the entire globe non-stop (never going to happen) this may be able to cross the river once before the batteries run flat but it will never sail to distant shores. It may be on the water, but it is not a boat and never will be, use specific or not, it is a Hydroplane if anything. @@vijilant
I bet you would rather ride a horse too
Just like those can am spyders and other junk.. Not a motorcycle never going to be a motorcycle and the people that own them will never be motorcyclists
Your attachment to the past is impressive.
Well I am impressed
That's just the coolest thing. Scientists and engineers aren't done surprising and impressing me.
I'll stick with my 115hp 2 stroke thanks..
I loved my 115hp Mercury Saltwater 2T with stainless Vengeance prop. That thing would boogie with a 5.3M half cabin.
Why not paddling ???
I honestly think this is one of the best inventions that boating has seen in a long time, not the electric part, but the waterfoil part. Just because of less drag, and less chances of smacking sea cows with your hull, I definitely think all boats should be like this. Can you imagine seeing ocean liner, or an aircraft carrier, coming out of the water?😂😂😂
It would be like we lived in the year 2024 or something😂😂😂
Hydrofoil boats have been around for 100 years. Some countries use them as a ferry boat, transporting passengers across rivers and channels. The US military did a lot of testing and had a few of them. They were decommissioned. They are actually pretty cool but I suspect they are limited in usefulness. Especially in blue water where waves present a issue with this design. They do not have the ability to ride on a wave.
Haha...notgoing to happen

The onboard diesel generator makes the electrical power. Sounds dependable.

Smooth and quiet
That’s awesome
I've seen where y'all tried to carry it out in rough water and it wouldn't handle it so you don't have to turn around and come back
These foil boats are awesome on still and glassy waters. I want to know what happens when you hit a little bit of a storm, turbulence or wake or waves whatever it’s called.

What size diesel engine do you have running the generator to produce the electricity to run that thing?
They generally run turbines. More get up & go per ton of weight.

Looks fun
Hydrofoils have been around for quite some time. I’m surprised they don’t use them more than they do. That’s because they’re way freaking expensive.
Hydrofoils only serve to reduce drag. Therin lies their functionality. However, as far as larger sea/water creatures are concerned, the hydrofoil is invisible headon to the animal. This results in gruesome injuries when the craft collides with it.
Cool presque plus de résistance et de traîné !
Hope So !❤
Looks stable enough. A bit more streamlined would look better.
Definitely faster no friction on water!😊👍🎩🎩🎩
Hydrofoils were the past of boating in Sydney, Australia. Hydrofoils operated as passenger ferries between the Quay and Manly for years in the 1970's. They were fast but you weren't allowed to travel outside on deck seats. Not sure why they were removed from service?
Cool. Pick u up with my Deisel out there.
This is the past of boating. It has been around in the past. It has been abandoned twice, for some reason. There were hydro foil boats in the Vieatnam conflict.
