This is why I rock with you and consistently watch your stuff because you don't sugar coat anything and show us what happens sometimes when you fish. You show us the good and the bad. It was still a good and entertaining video to watch. Fuck the people that will have something negative to say.
Without a doubt a bummer to see you loose it , but I have to say you handled it extremely well! No beeps required in the video :D I lost something big in the surf I was fighting for ~15 mins and I have to say I was not as calm as that ! Very educational to see how to fight a big fish together like that and I am sure you will learn from the experience ...keep it up , tight lines !
Amazing fish. I hooked up on a close to 200 pound tarpon fishing that wooden pier in Jensen using bunker there is some massive fist in that area this time of year

That heartbreak when the line came flying back...its so gut wrenching, especially when you fight for an hour. But even then, the fight is almost worth it. Tight lines, and you'll find her again

Heck of a fight though.
One of your best video's I have ever watched. The Florida Key's and the tarpon fish has a historic history. You should be proud that you now share history with Ernest Hemingway. The tarpon jumped 10 times out of water- shaking his head with mouth open to get the hook out. 1928-Key West,FL.

Wow! So reminiscent of an experience I had nearly 20 years ago off Key West with a Silver King!
Last cast of the day I hooked into a giant, at least 70lb. After fighting the fish for over an hour we got it to the boat, head out of the water, and "snap" the shaft of the hook snapped. Just as well because I was really done by then and the fish was also exhausted, wouldn't have been good for either of us to get it out of the water onto the boat for release. What a great and memorable experience I had with my son that day! It was a magnificent fish, and yes, I had the bruises from the rod butt for a few weeks as trophies of that magnificent catch! 😁
Hey there’s no need to be ashamed of this result! I don’t really think most big tarpon are successfully landed - especially on light tackle like that. I’m glad you did go ahead & upload this. Like you said, we all live & learn. I learned a lot from this!

PRO TIP! when your bait is outrunning the target like that pop one eye out of the bait to cripple him. The bait will then swim in circles and get caught by the target much easier.

It’s all a learned experience. Nothing to be ashamed of. We all know sometimes the fish prevail. And like you said, it’s a good video for others to learn from too. Whether it’s about how much pressure to put on the fish, if you’ve got the right setup for a particular fish you might be targeting. A whole bunch of scenarios played out there!

That was cool! I have been on 2 trips where someone hooked and landed a big Tarpon. Yeah 30 mins is just the start.This reminds me why I target juvenile Tarpon! Loved the video and Aaron impressed me. That guy knows stuff. He would already start doing what needs doing before you asked him to do anything. That guy has got skills that I do not have. I think he is a mind reader...or extreme competent fisher dude. Yeah, I enjoyed this and big kudos to Aaron.

Great video and hook up. Might I suggest you look into the down and dirty method of tarpon fishing. It’s how we land really big tarpon on fly. They pull left, you pull right across their back and vice versa. It’s all about leverage and turning the fish towards you head first. You can potentially cut down the fight time tremendously with this technique which is better for you and the fish

Ouch! So close. Definitely one of the hardest things in fishing is getting your hands on a tarpon that size. Especially when your undergunned. Great fight though Rich!🍻🤙

Hooked 9 off the pier this year only laid up 2 of them, it happens brother. The gill plates on them are razors, he just clipped the braid you still got the eat and jacked him up! Plenty more where that came from my dude ! Tightest of lines

Man, that hurt my soul just watching that. I live in Michigan so I don't have fun saltwater fish, but I have a monster PB King I broke off on a few years ago and a nice 40"+ Muskie I lost last summer that will forever haunt me

@@FishAholicTV you should check out "The North Florida Angler" he's an older guy and only uploads getting monster bass, tarpon and what not. Could ask him for some spots for some monster tarpon, I'm sure he'd put you on a PB by a long shot

No shame in losing a big tarpon, they are notoriously hard to land. At least you got a great fight, and got a good look at it many times. Not just another fishing tale, video to prove it.
Still hoping to catch my first tarpon at some point. I live in Canada, but visit South Florida every once in a while, my daughter lives there now. Tight lines and keep em coming!

Dude-that was a nice fish and fight. Don't be bummed... go back and get another one. Epic fight! Me, I'd upgrade my braid line. Nothing like hooking something like this and losing it. Learn from it and upgrade the leader and line for those kinds of fish. I once hooked a king salmon on a 5 wgt fly rod. Fish broke my rod. I cried and collapsed on the bank. But I learned-I bought an 8 weight fly rod for that salmon fishing.
Wow what a day. Big jack and a giant tarpon. I count that as a catch. Those fish are so difficult to land because the jump and can easily fray the line. Great video rich. Keep up the amazing content.

Rich, if you're using a uni to uni knot to attach braid to flouro leader, there's many better options.
Like what? I’ve had it break less than the gt and alberto knot. Fg knot is to hard for me to tie. What else should I use?

Hey Rich, I know it hurts but thanks for posting anyway. Luckily you did get her to the surface so we had a good look at her. Im from England and have been subscribed for months now and enjoy every vid posted. Im currently in Mali Lošinj Croatia where my wife is from and have been coming here for 25 years. Good fishing when the light starts to fade. Had a nice fish break off just like you as the rocks here are razor sharp, just have to keep going. Three rods out tonight and fingers crossed. Okay, I just thought I would tell you that I was very proud that you put that out even though you were bummed out. I'm bummed out pretty much on a regular basis when it comes to fishing, but every once in a while I get lucky, or God seems to pull me through. If you ever get a chance to look at it, check out the TH-camr known as Bama Beach Bum. He had a video out there this week that was pretty surprising from what he put out that I was used to seeing him do. But I was extremely proud of him as well for lack of better words. After giving some careful thought about replying it to this comment to mine, I thought maybe I should just clarify why I want you to check out that channel with his latest video. I'm not trying to throw anything in your face, but it had a little bit to do with his success and his spiritual life, I thought it was a great testimony for anyone to hear. He had over a thousand comments and I would say just from scrolling through most of them, that they were all positive. There were a few that sounded negative (but I think it was mostly because some people just don't understand, they weren't mean). I'm a believer myself and I struggle with my faith all the time, but that's how it goes pretty much in life, with everything! The more you put into something with great effort, the better the results. Just wanted to put that information out to you because I know you answer me most of the time I comment on your videos and I appreciate that. Can't wait to see another video soon, in fact I'm dying to see some videos that I subscribed to, but no one has anything new out! What gives? (I have stated in the past that I live up near Jacksonville / St Augustine, I don't know what's going on with the weather right now but it is extremely overcast. I wanted to wake up early to go fishing this morning at 4:00, but I was so tired from the day before, that I just kept hitting snooze. I know that if I don't get out there by at least 6:00, I don't get anything during these hot times) I missed the live broadcast the other day on Mr Poseidon, I was trying to watch that but it's making me wait for the video to start.
