Another nice video! Just trying to clarify that there cannot be a sellthrough rate greater than 100%.
A rate of 100% means all that was listed has sold out. One cannot sell more than what one has for sale.
The confusion comes from not including the solds in the total calculated.
If 25 are on sale and another 25 have sold, that is a 50% sellthrough rate (still very good), but not 100%, and no alternate calculations can change that. At a given point in time there were 50 total on sale, of which 25 have sold.
I hope I am not upsetting you, I have enjoyed all your videos to date 🙂

      @@helpfulcommenter such passion 🙂
Of course, the only relevant point in time is "now", and the window of solds is only as important as you want to stay relevant in your sales (that is, the shorter the window, the more probable your sale calculations). There may have been 1000 sold in 12 months but if only 10 were sold in the past 90 days that sure changes the sellthrough probability NOW, right?
That being said, you'd have 2 different sellthrough rates for the 12 months vs the past 90 days - but all based on the same formula.
Which, in your example, would give you the awesome odds of 99% sellthrough rate 🙂 (100 sold of 101 listed in the period relevant to you / us)

That’s just how we do it on eBay TH-cam. Get used to it.

My reply got deleted somehow but just to follow up - in your alternate universe where 100 solds and one active equate to a 99% sell-through rate, demand would be far more difficult to assess. If I tell someone else who does this for a living that an item has 1000% sell-through then they know it’s an unbelievably smoking hot item. If it had 200%, that would mean immediate pickup for resale because demand is outpacing availability twofold. 50% means it is so-so. I can’t wrap my head around someone saying an item with 1000% sell through is “99% sell through” - it doesn’t compute and none of us speak that language. Sell through rate isn’t a math test pal it’s a gauge of demand - and using your method is a far less fine grained understanding of demand, and also way more complicated to calculate on the fly.
You’re playing in a weird sandbox, through the looking glass, all by yourself; what it tells me is that you probably don’t actually source clothing for resale in the real world, or ever talk to anyone else who does either.

Yours is the strictly "correct" definition, it's the formula that Terapeak uses I'm pretty sure. Because the denominator is always larger than the numerator, it's not easy to determine sales velocity, and especially not at a glance, which is how most resellers assess comps. "My" approach is faster and more descriptive. If you want to call it something other than sellthrough rate then that's fair.

Matt I love you so much... thanks to videos like these I found a JACKPOT. In a single thrift store I got ~40 custom Hickey Freeman suits with LORO PIANA fabric and a ton of other luxury pants/shirts. They were all owned by the same lawyer who was big n tall. Any suggestions how I should sell them? Cause ebay comps are all over the place and I know they cost thousands msrp. The second I sell them I'm buying the manifesto for $200+ at least depending on hm i get

Incredible find. If there aren’t many comps you can just take a stab at a price you like. Don’t be afraid to price high with best offer on. Or price them low to move them fast. If you’re short on time you might consider sending them into the real real, or taking them to a physical location if there’s one near you. The commission is low but I sold a few loro piana suits that way.

A question--why do small men's sizes sell so poorly? Since many clothing manufacturer's produce only a limited amount of men's small sizes, I'd think eBay would be a go-to place for shorter men to find clothing, and there would be more demand. Any thoughts on this?

I liked the menswear manifesto, but it would be more valuable if you would add images of comps and sell through rate for individual items per brand. If you would create that I would buy it for 19.99 in a heart beat!

Matt, I would like to add on to this comment - It would also be a good idea to go find the items for us and drop them off at our house. Thanks.

Question - paid $20 for the manifesto - but the download is a hyperlink that I keep losing - when I go back - it’s like a new download / donation. Am I good to keep referencing it at $0? It makes me type in my email each time and I don’t want you to think I’m a bum
