    HI everyone I seem to have miss calculated the volumes for the IMF and Acerbis tanks, I unfortunately plunked them into the conversion tables as UK gallons not US gallons, yes I am foolish and I apologize. True volumes are , Safari 30l, Acerbis 20 and 25l IMF 18l. again sorry for the misinformation.

    Dino, I wanted to thank you for making these videos. I recently got a DR650, in no small part because of its amazing community of hobbyists. Your videos in particular made the choice to go with the DR650 platform an easy one. I can see the care you put into your videos. They have been not only some of the best made both in terms of production value and educational content, but they're also just plain fun to watch. They remind me fondly of being a kid and hanging out with my dad in the shop working on stuff. He taught me that there's nothing you can't learn, and learning to do things you didn't know before is half the fun. Keep up the great work.

      Thank you so much for the comment and I and very happy you like my content. Your dad was right and my dad was very similar, he was not afraid to try anything, learning many new skills throughout his life and I do my best to do the same. Eventually you realize that you can do more than you thought you could.
      Thanks again

    I couldn't imagine life without a DR650 with a Safari Tank, here in Australia, a 35L tank with a 600km range is incredible

    Another great vid. I love my 30L safari tank. Get a solid +600km per tank, which is handy here in Australia in case you have to duck down the road for some milk.

    Another good video! I fitted a Safari tank to my DR a few years ago. Your advice is correct. Keeping the fuel lines clear of exhaust and eliminating wobble as you have done with zip ties is important. The extra fuel capacity can be very useful as the stock 13 litre capacity is too small (especially in AUS). Carrying a spare filter is a tip and your set up makes on-the-road changing easy. Another useful video Dino, thankyou.

    Hi Mate
    I run the 30 ltr Safari tank
    These tanks will grow bigger over time so you will eventually have 33 to 35 litres
    It’s ideal to drill the heads of those bolts on the support bracket and put some grips wire through the head and around the support
    As they will back out
    The manufacturer say to put anti seize on them and not to over tighten to hard as they will spin .up top on the main bar you need a another rubber support like the oem one or similar up towards the head bearing
    I get 650kms out of mine
    On the Dr 🇦🇺👍

      @DinosTinkerShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tips for sure, thank you, Ill have to look for another rubber support and add it next time the tank is off.
      I have heard the tank grows over time, it sounds a lot like me lol I have "grown" a lot over the years.

      @@DinosTinkerShed Hi Dino, I’ve just finished watching a story on another YT channel ‘Moto Dans’ about using ‘rubber-supports’ to fix the issue of ‘wobbling’ large plastic fuel tanks on a DT. He used a rubber door mat cut into suitable sized strips, Zip-Tied, over the top of the main, frame bar, under the tank, which in his case was a 25 Litre Acerbis.

    Hi Dino, I just discovered your YT Channel and watched your install of the Safari tank. First thing I gotta say is Thanks, for your great work at making these very instructive and very informative videos. 👍 They are really a great help to someone like me who is thinking of getting a DR650 and who is currently investigating as much as I can about these bikes before I actually take the plunge and lay out my cash on one.
    Can I make just one small observation on how, you did your fuel line plumbing.
    I noticed that the way you ran the fuel lines they ended up being unsupported along their entire length from the PetCocks to the rear of the tank which left a noticeable droop in them at the back of the tank before they headed upwards again to the brass T-piece.
    I am thinking that once the fuel lines are full of fuel and hence heavier, and you are riding on a dirt trail, that will cause them both to ‘bounce’ quite, a bit, because they are unsupported along their full length.
    If I personally were now, doing your same Safari tank install, myself, on my own ‘future DR’ I would add, maybe two, or three, ‘3M brand’ double-sided-adhesive backed 1” square plastic ‘Cable-Tie Supports’ stuck onto the bottom, underneath, the tank, which I would then run the fuel lines over, tying them in place, to those few plastic ‘Supports’ along their length, with, white, cable ties. White being less noticeable against the white tank, than black ties.
    If the standard double sided tape that comes already affixed to the back of those 1” square plastic cable tie surface mount anchors doesn’t stick to the ‘plastic’ tank, all that well, which can happen if it’s made from polypropylene, then 3M also make another ‘super’ industrial strength double sided tape called ‘3M Scotch Mount Extreme’ which is about as difficult to get off anything that I’ve ever used it on, as trying to get dried on Baby’s Poo, off a Blanket.😉😁

    Hello Dino. I hope you had a great season of sledding, I’m just getting mine ready to put away. I got my DR out for it’s maiden a couple of weeks ago and everything went well. I did the full FFRC suspension upgrade during the winter and will be sorting that out in the coming rides. Please keep us up to date with your carb mods. I am interested to see if you can get it sorted. For now I will be leaving my 2020 stock as it seems pretty good. Just a small correction for your video regarding the IMF tank. I have one and I believe it is 18 litre not 22. You definitely have the marathon king with that 30 litre tank!

      Here is a tip, drill a hole in both bolt heads, where they fit the underneath the cross bar that braces the tank and use small diameter wire to go through the bolt head and tie it to the cross brace so the bolt won't vibrate out, because they will trust me.

    Where in North America are you going that you need so much gas? That's 8+ hours of non stop riding....lol...I'm gonna start riding with you and every 3 hours, I will siphon a little from yours. Not hating on you Dino, I just don't get it. Maybe it's a Trudeau thing? Did he cut off your gas like Brandon did her in the US? As always, great video, I watch and respect all of them.

The previous owner traveled a lot out west and from what I understand he rode multi-day rough camping. I will say I have run out of fuel on a sled a few times and it's not fun.

      If you do the Trans-Lab there is a +400 km stretch without gas. A DR650 with an Acerbis 25 liter tank will barely do it. Depending upon, the load, riders right wrist and state of tune, some DR's won't make it. Other then that, the Safari is a monstrosity! But if it came with the bike, then why not. It's much better then wondering where the next gas stop is. I personally have the 20 litre.

    • @daveo544
      @daveo544 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The standard tank is 13 litres and will get me 200km down a sealed road. The 30 litre safari is 2.3 times bigger so I'll get 460km out of a tank. In Australia we work out distances at 100km in one hour. Therefore about 4.5 hours riding but that would be pushing it.
      Absolutely no chance of doing this on a standard seat unless you're Rambo 😂
      I am writing this because I was SO excited to read 8 hours of riding on 1 tank = friggin awesome 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 My hilux won't even do that with 70 litres or my mum's little Honda Jazz. Unfortunately after a little math I was sadly let down 🥺
      Still gonna get the tank though 🎇🎆🎉🎊🪩😁👍🏻

    Hey Dino! Really enjoy your channel. I noticed that the T fitting sits lower than the hose that goes up to the carb. Do you experience any problems with there not being enough pressure for the fuel to climb uphill to the carb when the fuel level is low in the tank?

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No not at all, fluids will naturally level out so as long as the carb intake itself is lower than the bottom of the tank the flow is fine. If you look at my carb closely you will see that the previous owner heated and turned the hard pipe coming going into the carb so it is not so high, this is a common mod for Safari tanks from what I have read, otherwise the bottom of the tank will not flow into the carb because the petcock would be lower that the fill tube.
      Great question, thank you
