Instead of 1001 Exercises, I'd recommend "Everyone's First Chess Workbook" by Peter Ginnatos. That book is more beginner friendly, then one can move on to 1001 exercises. Also, Amaetur's Mind I feel is a bit overrated, it's way too "generic" in the sense that it tries to make everything into principles while half the time the principles are t even right. "A First Book of Morphy" by Frisco del Rosario might be better in this regard. Just my 2 cents tho...
