Thanks for posting this brilliant video. Seeing it really made my day.
Thanks also for briefly highlighting the instructions. Getting those to look and feel like the old Classic Space instructions while keeping some modern conveniences probably took me as much time as designing the ship in the first place.
BTW: Picking up boxes of my old Lego Space sets from my parents attic was exactly how I got back into the brick-game.

Kudos to your parents for keeping your Lego. I had so much Lego when I was a kid, and my parents gave it away when I left home. Which was really disappointing because I had heaps of the 70s and early 80s Lego (being I was born in 1970). When I had kids, we had to buy all our Lego again. But I would have loved to pass down my Lego.
So, as my kids get older, and play a bit less with their Lego, it goes into tubs into the attic for storage. That way, when they have kids, they can pass their tons of Lego onto their kids to enjoy.

Ah this takes me back. My sister used to work in Kuwait, and EVERY return to England, she'd bring me back another Space Lego set as a gift. LOVED the stuff. And being a Star Wars fan as well, it would often get turned into ships "as close to" Star Wars ships as I could make. Not star wars related, but with Space Lego, I created an evil droid race buy removing the head from within a spaceman's helmet, and replacing it with a green or red translucent cylinder piece. Ah fun times indeed :D Gutted that in my late teens, I became "too cool" for lego and gave mum the go-ahead to give the whole lot to a local jumble sale. Along with all my matchbox cars, and about 200 Transformers comics (from as early as about issue 5). :(

Those blue space Lego colours remind me of a special offer that was around in the UK in the early 80s from Persil washing powder. I think my Mum had to collect a ton of tokens from the boxes and eventually got me one of the blue and white spaceships. It eventually got assimilated borg-like into the big box of random Lego though.
I still have the battery powered space monorail from the late 80s range, still with its box, up in my Dad's loft. Turns out it's worth quite a bit now!

LEGO were making the same range of licenced products (Star Wars, Marvel, DC, films, tv shows, computer games) in the 80s, the same way they are now. Imagine the cross-overs for Paradroid, Jet Set Willy, Terrahawks, Battle of the Planets, except in that wonderful retro colour scheme! SPACESHIPS!!!

Thank you for posting this, Peri. It reminded me just how blessed and lucky I was growing up here in the States.
My family lived in the town where the only North American LEGO plant existed back in the 80's. Indeed, my mother worked at the plant for many years in various jobs, and I even did a summer job stint there before going to college. I know I probably mentioned this in a previous comment, but I do recall the manufacturing and packaging lines on the plant floor were controlled by Commodore 64's back in those days.
One of the earliest sets I can remember getting as a present was the LEGO Space Cruiser. I spent hours breaking it apart, building it again, playing with it, etc. Soon to follow were the Galaxy Explorer, the Space Shuttle, and other space-themed sets. I used to have a pull-string bag made of denim - had to be about three feet in diameter - that I would put all my LEGOs into whenever my mom would take us over to her friend's house to visit. My childhood pretty much revolved around my LEGOs. Like I said, I was very blessed and lucky.
I'm not sure what happened to those LEGO sets. I suspect my mother might still have them stashed away in her attic somewhere. Seeing this video brought back some wonderful memories for me personally. I hope to be able to build this set and add it to my collection very soon!

I didn't have a lot of Lego sets, mostly just one with a variety of parts as well as a box of assorted bricks that belonged to my grandfather, but in the late 70s, I did have the Lego 565 Moon Landing set. It only had a few special pieces and the rest was all generic blue blocks.
One of the things my grandfather had was a Lego train with a locomotive, tender and two passenger cars, which ran on blue track. After he gave it to me, I stupidly took it apart and was never able to put it back together the way it was.

Been thinking of getting into Lego again, not had any since I was a kid, had a big white wooden box filled with random Lego bricks. Im thinking it'll be mostly star wars and Harry potter, but some of the prices these days are a bit of a shock!!
