We both freaked out and tried to compose ourselves as much as possible. We decide to approach him but didn't want to be rude as he was speaking to his girlfriend. When there was a pause, we said politely: "Hey Jonatan, just wanted to say Happy New Year and it's a pleasure meeting you." To be honest, for a second he seemed slightly upset that people had recognised him while he was on holiday. Though, when he realised we weren't trying to hound him, he lit up and we started chatting. We asked how he was finding South Africa and he told us how much he loved it and wanted to put on a show here sometime. I told him I saw his performance at Melt and he was really stoked about that. As it was late, we didn't want to take too much of his time. He gave us his girlfriend's IG and told us to message him if we were doing anything later. Before we parted, we nervously asked for a photo to which he happily posed. Gang sings were thrown à la SBE. As he walked off, my friends and I started to freak out again and wondered if that had really just happened. We immediately called it a night well spent and blasted his whole discography back at my friend's place. I am not a religious man, but the universe certainly works in mysterious ways. The photo sits on my mantlepiece.
