Huge fan of SW here, came on this version to check, and I have to say the original is way better. Currently checking the whole discograrphy, and loving it
Same here. Already stumbled upon John Mitchell before because of his Nostalgia Factory cover, but apparently didn't pay enough attention to the rest of his discography. Already blown away by several other songs, including "Inside this Machine" and "How Bright is the Sun?"
this is one of those “once in a lifetime” tunes that will haunt you forever. everything about this is near perfect and polished. amazing structure, amazing vocals, amazing concept and amazing lyrics. if steven wilson felt so compelled to cover this, then one just knows it is going to be something very special. which of course it is. hope you read this and if so, thank you john mitchell - this is truly a wonderful masterpiece and it has profoundly touched me
It has indeed. I never listened to any of John Mitchell's work and now I'm like addicted. What a singer, what a guitarist and melodist. His voice reminds me so much of Peter Gabriel. But this track in particular goes deep in my head and my heart. Just today I've played it like 10+ times :-)
Masterful piece of songwriting and music... blows my mind that much of the best music is made by little known artists with little to no commercial traction. Bravissimo John Mitchell.

I was lucky to know this song before Steven Wilson’s cover. Great artist Lonely Robot!
Saw John Mitchell live with ARENA two years ago. His guitar playing was THE highlight of the show! Absolutely admirable - although he doesn't like RUSH (and I'm a huge fan). Maybe explains his facial expression when I made a photo with him - I was wearing my Clockwork Angels tour shirt that day. 😉
Life is a reflection of time and consciousness...our moments are very brief, yet long lasting at the same time...death is but a dream within a dream as are our moments here on earth. You can never lose a loved one so long as you remember those special moments…they are always with you in mind thought and spirit. Great video / song, very well done. Will share with my network and add to the World United Music blog playlists.

Amazing tune. One of the most profound and beautiful meditations on death I've ever heard. Thank you John, and everyone else responsible for the creation of the song and video. You all did wonderfully.

I believe that SW used JM's original recorded tracks (with permission) as the starting point for his version - there's no point trying to recreate perfection.
@@ianf-barker5552 i think you are correct because the two are virtually identical apart from wilson's shoegazer guitar solo and a few additional bits in the background - its a perfect piece - nearly everything about it is just great. Cant believe its three years old and it never made an impact - thats a crime
SW brought me here . . . fantastic song!

It's a brilliant, beautiful song, and should be better known. Steven Wilson and John Mitchell have both separately become the new Pink Floyd.
Here because of SW too, and planning on having this one at my funeral. Goddamn perfect song.
Here because of the Steven Wilson live. The chorus reminds me of blackfield.
It does
Yeah. I'd love to hear Aviv Geffen sing this
Ya, would be great Blackfield tune agreed!
And Chris Martin would appear all wide eyed and mysterious in the video
I love this song. Hopefully Steven Wilson cover will increase the audience...
This is happening!
It has 😁, really strong album the song is part of too.

Yes Indeed!....I like John Mitchell's version better!....It has more of a punch to it and his voice on the chorus is perfect!
Me as one of them, strangely I knew somehow it was a cover, but didn't knew from whom.
I heard Steve mention Lonely Robot in his interview, I was not aware of them so I had a listen, so glad I did, Three albums in!
Now try another John Mitchell project: It Bites - Map of the Past
You won't be disappointed

SW brought me here as well and I love this John Mitchell piece.
Sounds like Blackfield. Love it!
SW brought me back here. This tune is so dope. For me, as a Frost* fan, John Mithcell is one of my heroes.

Mitchell does great solos; not overly flashy, but very tastefully done, which actually takes more talent. They always fit the song so well.
Great musician, seen him many times also in Arena.
I really want to listen to this chorus very much, these chords are super touching...
Indeed, i'm addict to it!
It was already an absolutely beautiful song, but the video adds so much more! Stunning!!

Is that Kim from Touchstone on vocals?
Steven Wilson brought me here.
Really like. Reminiscent of Peter Gabriel
steven wilson est passé par la.
Good Lord - did Wilson lift the actual spoken word sample from this?
Of course. It's Alan Watts, and it's a part of the song (and the album), so it would be a disservice to John not to include it.
