I have had 4 border collies in my life, and only one had those herding instincts deeply, this little 9 week old guy is so adorable, to watch at such a young age, and you dorks who gave this video a thumbs down, you are missing out on the best dogs on the planet, there is not a bad thing I can say about them, they are smarter than a lot of people, oh I guess that's why you people gave thumbs down, that lil pup is smarter than you
The varieties of form and behavior available in the canine genome never cease to amaze me. This little dog, at nine weeks, already knows what his life is all about!
Great Border Collie Pup. His instint is outstanding. Never ceases to amaze me how they know to cut, when to lay, when to gather together, when to have the stand off. Great Pup!!
E Mack E Mack it's a good and bad thing. For the dog to operate alone so well. Maybe you are aware already. We tend NOT to use cattle dogs in Britain. These head off into the wilderness and drive cattle back to the farmer all by themselves. They often need to be more independent and a bit 'tougher' Collie dogs are supposed to be listening for the shepherd at ALL times. Poised to move instantly as if a snapped twig has scared them. They are a silent, precision extension of the shepherds will. They should not move without the shepherd saying so from one command to the next. (They do use their own initiative and experience later to tuck sheep back into the 'drive' but still always they are listening for that signal of "yes good shout!" or "NO get back") I think the farmer would be well by using this advanced behaviour time to familiarise the dog with 'down', 'walk on', 'away' and 'bye'. (I'm no expert but I fully believe with my own experience, if he has done that at 9weeks this dog could be out working by 20weeks if not sooner ) A collie should be almost quivering with anticipation of the shepherds voice. So strong is their desire to please him/her. It's genetic. This one seems far from it. If the dog is this advanced and bold with cattle so young it would be very well to ensure his discipline is locked down. The hard bit is done. The dog likes cattle, he doesn't bite them and he's got the basic manoeuvres nailed (still a bit close to the sheep, but he's small so has to get closer) Farmer needs his dogs attention now.
What a brilliant wee lad! Oh, I love his look. So much style, courage and feel in so tiny a package. Wherever he is now, I hope he's in the best of hands and will be somebody's right hand dog. Wonderful!
The Canine Einstein. Brilliant. Best dog's I've ever had the pleasure of owning. My last one herded my two young boy's whenever they'd play outside, making sure that they wouldn't leave the play area, then bring the horses in, round up the neighbor's sheep, take the hogs in and out and keep the damn chickens out of the garden and off of the deck and play frisbee. R.I.P Billy, That'll do.
My parents had a border collie when I was a kid and she'd do the same to the three of us. Mom said she'd just open the door, say "Gretchen, go watch the kids" and she'd be off. I remember her deftly herding us away from the road and away from whatever trouble we found. Mom still says that Gretchen was the best babysitter she ever had.
the only thing I disagree with you on is owning them. I have always considered myself their guardian /caretaker /friend. my friends name was Andrew R.I.P.
A border collies instincts for herding is huge. I wish people understood this and respected it more. Then there would been less stressed and missunderstood dogs in this world. Dont ever think about getting a border collie if u dont want or respect their instincts wich is very very valuable for sheep owners and always has been. Thank you so much for posting this video to show what border collies are ment to do in life and that they are born like proffesionals in this work. To many puppies are killed because people wanted their intelligence and or beauty but freaks out when the puppies need for work and intensity shows up. Their personality and instincts is easy to see already when they climb out of their puppy bed at 4-8 weeks.
yeah I agree with you. I'm so sad. I had a dog like this. His name is Gogon. Gogon always helped me to take care my goats and chickens. But someone killed him
What a great pup, all that natural ability. My cousin had his collie working sheep at the same age and it was fun to watch. I don't have any sheep so I started my heeler on cattle at 12 weeks.
I just love Border Collies, I have one, Mr. Riley is his name, is is 4 now, he was born on a ranch on the other side of our state and the rancher didn't think as a puppy he was a good promise for a working dog on the ranch, but that was ok with us, he is a pure treat to us every day, he is so smart and full of love and always knows hot to test you, but all in fun, I am so lucky to have him, and my heart is for him, he is my love....and he knows I am his momma, he loves me up every day....plus we have 2 labs so he plays with them all the time, they all love each other too. He is a fantastic addition to our household, we live in the countryside, so he gets plenty of fields to run through...
I had a border collie/Aussie shepherd mix. She was the sweetest tempered, and had to be indoors when I was in school and at work at one of my four part-time jobs, and she did fine. We (my family and I) trained her when she was young what things to do and not do in a house... So eager to please, and the only thing she did that I had a problem with was when she chewed up the leather sandals I was supposed to wear for a performance. She was pretty young then, and it was the only time she ever did anything like it. I suppose the leather smelled like her chewy toys...and there was no door on my closet. She was SO smart. When she got older she had to have water pills, and I was late one day getting home to let her out... she used the cat's litter box! LOL
Border collies are the smartest dogs of all. Smarter than many people. We had one (and her son) when I was little. Also sheep, of course. Possibly they are telepathic 🤭. Bonita taught her son, no human help needed. 😉
Such a PLEASURE to watch, God given instinct, what a MARVEL! Thank you for sharing. I just love watching these dogs "work". It seems more like play to them.
Because he's lying. The dog is not nine weeks. A nine week pup does not have the agility and would tire quickly. This dog is mature in it's movement than a pup.
@Ruth Collins I think humans have the same instincts but we have relaxed them so much due to technology and have forgotten how to listen to your inner self. not all of us though have a great day
Dog seems to be teaching himself by experimenting, figuring out what works and what doesn't. Folks are saying he should be under voice control, but sometimes a guy just has to play. Very handsome sheep, by the way!
Very impressive! I’ve had in my past ones that I trialed, now ones that are pets and a few very impressive working dogs during that time. But, I don’t recall any of them showing that kind of impressive prowess and mastery of their job at only 9 weeks! Wow!
Wow this 9 week old Border is completely and totally amazing. Wishing I could purchase this type of a puppy for my 3 acre farm with those amazing instincts. 👍👀🐑 🐕
Stating the obvious - what amazing dogs these are. This video is super duper. I agree that the little guy is truly focused on "his job" and, oblivious of photographer.
His a bold we bugger knows when to back off very focused for his age i have 2 trial collies my self that will work sheep and cows its there job as i farm , they love work to them its play. great video
this video of this little guy is a keeper to watch over and over again, I can't believe how smart he is, although I know border collies are the smartest dog of all dogs, I just never saw such a young pup doing his job he looks like he is enjoying bossing those sheep around, I just cant stop laughing
Amazing. My border-heeler pup wanted to herd the chickens like that. But I don’t know anything about raising or training them, other than he needs tons of exercise
crazy how we can breed a dog so much that it's descendants have that 'instinct' to do what we bred it's ancestors to do. genetics is more awesome than we think.
The tail tucked is just marvelous. TO the age thing, you can still see the hopping he's growing out of! At 7 mine was all hop. After 2 weeks that about vanished. Very nice patience, already knows how not to panic the sheep. Incredible professionalism for 9 weeks
OMG I can't believe that 9 week old pup is already working like he is a year old. O just finished watching a 4 week old bc getting his shot at first go round he went nose to nose with those huge sheep 2 x bc's are definitely the smartest dogs in the world and I know for a fact because I am on my fourth my favorite breed
So young but not playing. No excitement, no barking, not one woof, tail (the flag) kept down low and not wagging except once, thus keeping sheep calmer. Between the farmer and the pup the pressure was gently kept on the sheep.

Great Border Collie Pup. His instint is outstanding. Never ceases to amaze me how they know to cut, when to lay, when to gather together, when to have the stand off. Great Pup!!
What a great little fella! It's amazing that such skills are not taught, but instinctive.
What equally amazes me is that he is largely oblivious to whoever is holding the camera. He is totally about his business!
E Mack E Mack it's a good and bad thing. For the dog to operate alone so well.
Maybe you are aware already.

E Mack They are not instinctive, they are domesticated over many years to fit the person's needs.
Collies have the prey/hunt instinct but the killing instinct has been bred out.
The sheep don’t seem to know what to make of it
What a brilliant wee lad! Oh, I love his look. So much style, courage and feel in so tiny a package. Wherever he is now, I hope he's in the best of hands and will be somebody's right hand dog. Wonderful!

arkansaswookie I had a friend who let her dog do the same thing for her twins.
They become sheep when they grow up without four legs.

Wow. What a great pup. There's going to be some talent there!

Alvilde Fredriksen
Oh My Word. This pup is actually training itself. amazing!
I like how the occasional sheep would square up and this small puppy stared them down.
This pup, like so many smart kids, could be great with kind, patient instruction❤
What a great pup, all that natural ability. My cousin had his collie working sheep at the same age and it was fun to watch. I don't have any sheep so I started my heeler on cattle at 12 weeks.
A dog being a dog and sheep just being sheep. Natural instincts are amazing. ❣️❣️❣️

great border collie!!!
I'm glad to be able to see the true figure of the Border Collie.
Thanks.
Beautiful to watch. I hope he's had and is still having the good life he deserves. 9 weeks here, fantastic 😊
that there is a border collie to the core
typo91 AMAZING
Brainiest creature on the planet.BORDER COLLIE
Fantastic pup. I hope he's met all of your expectations.

Instinctive reactions from the sheep AND the pup... beautiful.
He's gonna have to learn not to look so happy on the job.
Very impressive! What a little trooper staring down that big sheep
Border collies are the smartest dogs of all. Smarter than many people. We had one (and her son) when I was little. Also sheep, of course.

Nine weeks old and the sheep already know who's boss. Incredible.
Ya know, it almost looks like the sheep are actually training the pup.
Linda Doggett Wow
Jojq
Looks like the wee pup has some work to do! But he'll do just fine!
@@virginiaconnor8350 THe sheep are thinking, "Oh heck, it's one of those black and white things. A mini version but we'd still better behave!"
Why would anyone thumbs-down this video. This is incredibly awesome
25 sheep gave a thumbs down, obviously!
Because he's lying. The dog is not nine weeks. A nine week pup does not have the agility and would tire quickly. This dog is mature in it's movement than a pup.
Yago Usera and because of the moving border around the video
I don't know. Maybe we should remove the dislike button to avoid the confusion.
probably some guys without thumbs
just think what a great grown sheepdog this very smart puppy is going to be
That is the best example why we Love animals so much♥️💕❤️
He's definitely a keeper. I miss my border collie. he was my best friend and one the most intelligent creatures I have ever known. including humans
@Ruth Collins I think humans have the same instincts but we have relaxed them so much due to technology and have forgotten how to listen to your inner self. not all of us though have a great day
That pup was a hell of a lot older than 9 weeks.
Thats likely not true I have a border collie and the dog in this video I a male there for they grow a lot faster than a female
You gotta love a herding dog! They have no teacher but themselves and they love their job.
Damn smart dogs!! I was lucky enough to have one for 14 years--smartest dog I ever had!!
How about a follow up on that dog now?
might be older than 9 weeks but he has amazing skills...loved it..
he looks min. 6 months old, but regardless, he's fantastic
12/13 weeks
Dog seems to be teaching himself by experimenting, figuring out what works and what doesn't. Folks are saying he should be under voice control, but sometimes a guy just has to play. Very handsome sheep, by the way!
I am so impressed by this baby! No commands, it just knows!
Absolutely amazing dogs. VERY interesting and intelligent.
Great genetics. This is amazing!
Amazing and very cute pup!
I LOVE watching this dog work with the sheep. I could watch it all day; such an intelligent dog!!
Very impressive! I’ve had in my past ones that I trialed, now ones that are pets and a few very impressive working dogs during that time. But, I don’t recall any of them showing that kind of impressive prowess and mastery of their job at only 9 weeks! Wow!
Such intelligent and gentle creatures! As someone here said born workers!
He is loving this job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Instinctively applying and easing off pressure🥰
I'll say one thing,, if this pup gets the right training, it's going to be a world champion!
What a smart dog and cute.
Excellent breeding, congratulations.

bruce collie Are you a fan of the Albert Payson Terhune books?
Unbelievable ! Just amazing to watch.
this video of this little guy is a keeper to watch over and over again, I can't believe how smart he is, although I know border collies are the smartest dog of all dogs, I just never saw such a young pup doing his job he looks like he is enjoying bossing those sheep around, I just cant stop laughing
Pure instinct! Good boy!
awesome video - great place for that puppy
brilliant wee guy , made my day.. thanks
looks like he knows what he is doing, you got yourself a rare dog indeed!...ty for the video
Brilliant puppy. :-)
Also, good editing work on the video of it.
He had a damn good bloodline in him to do that on instinct. And/or minimal training.
wow their interactions are so funny. he seems really professional
Simply brilliant! ♥
Amazing smart Border Collie
Amazing.
My border-heeler pup wanted to herd the chickens like that. But I don’t know anything about raising or training them, other than he needs tons of exercise
It's breed in them sooo cute mine not a working dog but still does all the collie moves
crazy how we can breed a dog so much that it's descendants have that 'instinct' to do what we bred it's ancestors to do. genetics is more awesome than we think.
That Pups got the eye alright. His flanking is superb considering the age.

love those dogs...........thats a huge 9 weeks.......9 months maybe.
tonewall jaxon
Nah mate, at 9 months it would be much bigger than that. This pup looks 2-4 months old
Border Collie pups get big fast... they've been bred to mature quickly so they can get to work ASAP... that pup looks about 9-11 weeks old...
latinamajor yes my puppy grew so much the 3 weeks we’ve had him!!!
The sheep are so floofy! Sometimes they seem to look to the camera for help! 😂
Sometimes I think breeders should ignore colors and nose size and just breed for strong health and high intelligence.
Than I remember:
border collies.
Just.....damn.
What a great a pup.
Thanks for the upload.
Even the ram takes orders from "this kid". LOL . . WoW
I don't believe it. We sure that's not edited! What a dog!!
He's sooo good !
Good breeding. What a sight to see, that baby is awesome.
Que lindo dá vontade de abraçar o cachorrinho e as ovelhas ❤🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
What a grand pup.. tyvm
That little guy was having the time of his life! It's no wonder he couldn't hold the camera steady.
Amazing. He just knows.
awesome pup!
Natural instincts at his best
amazing pup
this is cool. pup seems super intelligent
WOW! Just incredible.
The wee bugger knew to go wide when he realised the sheep had him in the speed department. How's he getting one now?
He's got a lovely natural working style already.
Best dogs in the world... but I am biased... but i love all dogs
I love border collies!
The instincts are amazing... ;-)
Amazing!! So cute as well!
Wow what a beauty!!
That pup makes sheep nervous!!
The sheep," not another one of these robot's with a battery that never dies!" Shhhhhit!
Seems his mother has taught him well to date.
OMG I can't believe that 9 week old pup is already working like he is a year old. its in the DNA undoubtedly !
What a nice baby
