Thanks so much, I was getting again into this classic so I could revisit the saga and wondered about throwing some mods into the mix but I had no idea if anything changed since the good ol day, now that I discovered your videos I'll follow them to mod the whole saga!
I know how to install mods in DAO but wow this Mod Install Guide is just perfect. Everything is explained without leaving questions behind. I’m more than sure that this Guide helped a ton of people. A very good video!!
I have been modding this game for a few years and just this week I actually added a ton more mods (I'm up to 90 mods now which is a lot for me lol) but I really like how you explained this Complex. I have your dragon age vids saved to a playlist so I can go back to them anytime I need a refresher course because ya know, I forget things and this vid is really good. Thank you! 😊
Really enjoyed your Skyrim content, that led to DA I and now DA O. Thanks for many hours of entertaining content. How great your game looked got me into the modding rabbit hole.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been pulling my hair out, and going insane. Just to install Mods to DOA my Favorite game ever. I tried mod managers, but they never worked. And this is a 100% better, and easier. I don't even know why I put myself through all that crap. *Hugs* 🤗💖🥰

This video is super helpful! I never knew what everyone was talking about when they would keep bringing up the override folder. Thanks for talking about it and showing it!
Firstly, good informative video. I enjoyed it. Secondly, just curious about your accent. For the most part it sounds American, but the way you say "process" sounds Canadian. The way you say "so, hope," and "note" sounds Australian at least to my ears. I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you a mix of any of those or grew up in any of those places?
I love the video, it does help a lot. Question although, I use ModOrganizer as mod manager, would that be a good substitute or would you recommend still using the DAO specific mod manager
I'm not sure if ModOrganizer has support for DA:O -- honestly though I'd highly suggest either not using a mod manager or just use the DAO MM as it's built specifically for the game!
Hey there! Thank you for the great videos, I’ve been following for years when it comes to your dragon age mods :) I do have a question about DAO. I am on my first play through and I can’t get out of the temple for ashes. After I pick up the ashes it goes to a black screen whenever I leave, I can only hear the audio music. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, with and without mods. I reduced the quality of the graphics to the lowest possibly but these aren’t fixing. I tried repairing the game but nothing… have you ever encounter this issue?
Thank you so much for this!!!! I had the hardest time wondering why i could not find the override folder and you cleared that out right away I am so happy right now From somebody who has never modded in their life, Thank you for clearing things out
Thanks so much for this! I'm planning on using the first method of just manually doing it through the override folder but I do have one concern I was hoping to get your insight/advice on; what you said about conflicting mods, I plan on installing multiple mods in which more than one will sometimes alter the same specific .mmh/.mao/.msh/.phy file, but is there an easier way to keep track of those other than manually searching for each file line? Like does the Mod Manager (or maybe even another app) warn you, keep it better organized to make them easier to find, or even another method? Or is this a cross I am forced to bear?
Great video! Question: can you do both of these methods? I have some stuff installed through mod manager but also some files are zips and I added a couple of them based on your override folder method here. Are those two things in conflict? I'm also trying to install the CharGenMorph Compiler as recommended, but what folder will I point it to? it says override, but I know the ModManager files are elsewhere. Any help is appreciated!
You can totally use dazip and override file mods together! The only time you'll have issues is if you install two mods that conflict! Your chargenmorph only deals usually with your override folder so you'd want to point it there!

What Am I doing wrong? When I look at your pathways at said timestamp, does it have to be in the same drive? or do I have to install DA:O, Steam and MOD Manager in the same drive? Is that the reason why it doesn't work for me or...?
Nope you can have it on different drives no problem -- I honestly don't think FtG touches that portion of the UI -- for me it makes me subtitles, dialogue choices bigger but not some other things -- If you haven't yet I'd highly suggest reading the installation instructions as I feel like I had to do an additional step to get it to work!

Gave up trying to create the override folder on my PS2. Couldn't access the filesystem. It kept saying "Please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc". Oh well. 🤭My last playthrough was in 2020 but I was never able to get its HoF on Keep. Perhaps it was that console thing, though I don't remember using or enabling the console that time. Back then I just assumed Origins was so old they stopped supporting it. I kept the saves. Might be worth reinstalling and trying. Thanks, Plex!
I wonder if you didn't enter in the secret password which is why it didn't let you access the system 😎 Also for the keep you can manually pick your options to sync everything -- it's how i've done the stream play throughs to create different world states so you could always try that option instead!
@@FoodThenGames Oh yes, I ended up creating the World State manually in Keep. Still, it would have been nice getting it to sync and have that Hero of Ferelden show up instead of having to pick one of the default ones.
Is there a way to install overrides using the DAO mod manager? I can't seem to do it and while I don't mind manually installing it since it isn't an issue, it does seem a little confusing for the mod manager itself to not have the overrides listed when I put it in the override folder. I dragged and dropped my dazip files into the dazip folder and it managed to detect and install those no problem
I know that the Mod Manager should be able to handle overrides but honestly I just prefer to install the .erf and override folder mods manually as they usually have some extra files, etc that the mod manager might have issues with!
So I have been attempting to mod the Steam version of the Ultimate Edition. I install the game, launch it to make sure the DLC are there, and then I'll download 1 mod (i.e. dog slot mod), but then attempt to install a 2nd (da.zip files for both) and get error. I don't know if this is enough information. The 2nd mod I attempted was the mod No Helmet Hack. But I've tried different mods each time. Is the steam version just broken?
I can't find the folder or file in the path in DAO modmanager: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\tools\DragonAgeToolset.exe". Idk if it's caused by the Steam edition, because I can't find it in the Bioware folder either.
Tried like 3 different guides, did every single thing in all of them, didn't skip anything and not a single mod ever worked, I am so lost why it is not working.... When I even dare to create an override folder and it's empty or have one mod, the game just doesn't work, I load the save and game crashes.
@@FoodThenGames Then you ARE incredibly lucky, or are playing it on a very old machine, as DAO has the dreaded "4GB Ram Overflow-CTD bug" and even without mods and graphics set to low, I can barely get a half hour down until my game crashes - which is no fun at all. And yes, back when, with an appropriate PC, I had no problems and I haven't found a crash fix that worked for me so far, thanks anyways.
Huge thanks!!! Easy to follow..but I think I did something wrong. I added the patch from the same site to the override file. This was the bug fix for the golems that didn't show up marching in the "Armies marching" cutscene. I added the file to override on both my C and D external hard drives where I play the game. Is it that its not a mod but a fix? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. ** I wish there were local gamer companies to assist with these things....wondering if geeksquad could help?
I would double check that it's not a .dazip as that needs the other kind of installation method. You could have another mod overwriting it for some reason, you might be missing a dependency mod. Lastly I'd re-read through the mod description again carefully to see if there's any special modding instructions!
@@FoodThenGames Thank you!!! : ) No special instructions. It was a straight Nexus Mod to download and drop into the override folder. I did that for both my C and external Hard drive for the game. Neither worked. I think Might need to pay for GeekSquad to help. Ugh. But huge thanks...great video!!!
Hey, I know this is a very old video, but is there any way you could discuss some common issues with the console commands? I grabbed the Grey Warden armor mod you recommended, and the MOD tells you to open the console and run a command to get the armor. I would really like to wear the armor, but every time i try, the game crashes. No matter what method of using the console I try. If you have the time, could you tell me how you got the console commands to work for you?
Honestly I just followed the steps from the DAO Wiki for it -- however it is worth noting that the steps are slightly different for steam vs Origin/EA App!
Thank you for the tutorial, sadly for me its not working the Mods that use the overide folder are working properly but the DAZIP files are not. I tried using the updater and the Mod manager separately and with both methods the mods are showing as active under the downloadable content category in game but are not working. Does anyone had the same proplem and found a solution? Thanks in advance.
Where are you trying to put them in? If it's the mod manager I'd probably just say to install it manually in the override folder! But I'd also triple check the mod page's installation instructions to make sure there isn't something specific for that installation!
Some mods have special installation instructions so the ones that don't work might need something different! You could always double check the mod pages to see if the mod author left any notes!
Can any one help? I am trying to install a few of these but a huge chunk of them keep giving me: "X file is not a dazip!" and that is whether i unzip every single file in the mod or not. The ones I am having trouble with are the mods with a ton of files in them. I.E.: "A Warden's Sacrifice, Hugs, Equal Love, etc". Anyone have any advice?
Hi!! I installed some mods with the Daupdater and they all say that they were installed, when i start the game they also show up in the downloadble content as enabled but except for 1 mod all the others don't show up in game. prior to installing with the Daupdater i tried to install them with the DAO mod manager but none of them showed up in game.
You might need to repair your game and then try installing each one individually to see if they work. Also double check that they don't have other things they need to work. And lastly I'd highly, highly suggest getting a 4GB patch as that cures a lot of things! And if none of that works I'd check the mod page comment sections to see if anyone else had issues!
Hi, I have a question regarding DAUpdater. I've noticed it doesn't show the mods you've installed this way previously when you open it again. So how can I know which ones I've installed, and which ones I have not? also, what happens if I install the same mod again this way, so it's installed twice?
Around the 8 minute mark I showed how to see in game with the downloadable content section -- that will show you any dazips that are installed! Or you can use the mod manager as showed right before that as well! If you reinstall an exisiting mod I don't believe anything happens.
It depends on the mods really. Just make sure when you are in the Nexus Mods page to carefully check the requirements and the installation process needed because each mod has different conditions for use. If you miss one thing it could be the reason your mod is not working
Got the nostalgia bite and decided to replay DAO, but I can't seem to get the mods to work... I tried installing DA Redesigned and the necessary associated mods such as PT Vibrant Colors, but none of them seem to be working. I moved the files to ...steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\packages\core\override as shown but no dice. I also tried the Documents path but that didn't work either. Can't find any solutions online. Thoughts?
DA Redesign has it's own set of install instructions which and I believe an actual installer or something like that so I'd suggest going through their instructions to see if you missed something!
@@FoodThenGames I actually just found the problem, and the solutions - chargenmorph compiler! The necessary mods for DA Redesigned had multiple chargenmorph files that were interfering, and I totally forgot I'd need to compile them into one so they'd play nice. Problem solved! Thanks for the fantastic video, too, that made things so much simpler.
Nope it comes with the game -- if you haven't yet make sure you load into the game and into a character and play around for a few minutes as that's solved similar problems in the past!
there is a faster combat mod. i cant play without it makes the game more action based it not perfect but simce i cant stand how slow the vanilla combat is its a huge improvement
Hi can you answer me please I wanted to instal alistar wedding but i made a new override folder put the mod but my game is delected can you please help me
I installed a ton of mods long ago in my DA:O installation. Was going to check what ones I installed to let someone know and I can't seem to find anything. And the DLCs are called mods? Mod updater is just for dlcs? Pulling my hair out here. Isn't there an easy way to see what actual MODS I installed, not DLC? I had hair, teeth, eyes, lock pick mod, texture packs.. But I don't even have a dazip or override folder so dunno.
If you downloaded them off of nexus you can check your download history! As far as DLCs go they're not considered mods, however dazips are installed through a similar path as the dlcs so it's more like mods that are dazip based become they're own lil' dlcs.
I really hope you see this. You helped me a lot for the Mass Effect Trilogy LE but I'll admit I'm stumped this time. I'm downloading from the Nexus and trying to move it into the mod manager. It comes up saying it's not a "dazip" file. So, I try the method finding the upgrader and search for "dazips" but there's none in my files even though I've downloaded it. Computer stuff is really not my strong point. I don't understand extracting and such. I extract using zip, but I don't know where to extract to. And even once I've extracted it somewhere it doesn't seem to have done anything because it still won't let me put it in the mod manager or the upgrader. And what do I extract? All of it? Or just the one with the picture of a folder in front of it? Or just the picture of the single page? The files are not even being downloaded as dazip files. For context I'm trying the Morrigan - Inquisition Edition mod. In the files I'm seeing MOR, MMH, TNT, MAO files but no dazip or even zip. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone help? And if anyone takes the time to help (thank you in advance) use baby language because computer speak is over my head.
Did the mod author on the page say how to install it? It sounds like an override not dazip mod if it has multiple file types. There should be a time stamp in the vid for how to install those! You'll just want to make sure you put it all in the same folder inside your override folder to keep the installation clean!
Hey I had the same problem. I found that it works so long as you paste all the files for the mod into the C:\Users\-yourname-\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override it should work. Just fire up the game and check if the mod is working. Start with mods More Hairstyles it's an easy way to check that the mod is working
doubt im going to get a response to a 2 year video but im going to try anyway, I cannot get the mods to work, I thought this would work like how modding works for the KOTOR games with the override folder but nothing is working, I installed the DA2 warden armor mods and duncan should be wearing said armor but he keeps spawning with no clothes or weapons and I have to erase all my DAO folders and reinstall my game to fix it, this is for the steam version of the game.
Are you trying to install Grey Wardens of Ferelden? If so that's not an override folder that's a dazip file. There's a timestamped section in the tutorial that talks about how to install that via the updater! Also -- in the known issues of that mod it talks about the naked character issue which might help further troubleshoot it.
tech stuff might as well be a foreign language to me. I have no idea what I'm doing and this couldn't fix that. like in the video you open an archive or something? I literally have no clue how to do that or anything else.
You’d either use the mod manager OR the override folder + the installer in the game folder depending on the mod. I personally don’t use the mod manager and use the other two but it’s 100% personal preference
Nope it's all the same folder! However make sure that the mod you're using is compatible with Awakening before using or you get the Awakening specific version of it!
If im not mistaken there are mods that enable a little bit more gore in the game which i don´t recall its name, and another one which makes the character performs insteresting finishes on its foes. Do you know them by chance?
Didn't think I'd be playing this game in 2023, let alone modding it.

No special instructions. It was a straight Nexus Mod to download and drop into the override folder. I did that for both my C and external Hard drive for the game. Neither worked. I think Might need to pay for GeekSquad to help. Ugh. But huge thanks...great video!!!
Hi! does DAO works for Dragon Age inquisition? Cuz DAI doesn't 😢
Do you have any essential mod list that you use which is required if you are new to the game. Since, I am going to play it for the first time.
I don't but I do have several video that show my favorite mods you could take a peek at!
@@FoodThenGames Thanks! I was able to find some mods in previous videos.
Hi, have you have any tips re Unofficial Remaster? It is not a dazip and when unpacking to override and installing laa it does not work :(
Thank you for the tutorial,
sadly for me its not working the Mods that use the overide folder are working properly but the DAZIP files are not.
I tried using the updater and the Mod manager separately and with both methods the mods are showing as active under the downloadable content category in game but are not working.
Does anyone had the same proplem and found a solution?
Thanks in advance.
I'm getting the "not an override file" error when trying to put my mods in (they're not dazip). What am I doing wrong?
Where are you trying to put them in? If it's the mod manager I'd probably just say to install it manually in the override folder! But I'd also triple check the mod page's installation instructions to make sure there isn't something specific for that installation!
@@FoodThenGames I figured it out. I needed to add a compatibility file so two of the mods could work together.
Thanks for the quick reply. 😊
You are life saver thx you million times . 2023 .
I tried modding it by installing manually, some mods work and others don't. I have no clue why
Some mods have special installation instructions so the ones that don't work might need something different! You could always double check the mod pages to see if the mod author left any notes!
Hello everyone, I don't know if the method still works in 2024, but I'll test it and come back here to let you know.
Ps: Thanks for the great videos!
It should still 100% work as I just used it on a let’s play for DAO!
@@FoodThenGamesYes, it still works perfectly 😁. I really am very grateful!
You rock!!
@@FoodThenGames thanks! didn't expect such a quick reply, you're the best :)
Could i install mod’s halfway through the story or would I have to start a fresh game?
It depends on the mods really. Just make sure when you are in the Nexus Mods page to carefully check the requirements and the installation process needed because each mod has different conditions for use. If you miss one thing it could be the reason your mod is not working
what if there's already an override folder in there? Do I use that, or do I make another one?
just use the one you have!
I followed your steps to install the mods and when I opened the game there were not all the mods I had installed. can you help me plss?
is the dua updater something you need to download first? Because I do not have a bin folder :(
Nope it comes with the game -- if you haven't yet make sure you load into the game and into a character and play around for a few minutes as that's solved similar problems in the past!
Hey, can you do a video on 'Vortex' the new mod handler by 'Nexus Mods'.
Thank you, nice video tutorial, but i'd like a combat mod (yes, i know it, it doesn't exit)
there is a faster combat mod. i cant play without it makes the game more action based it not perfect but simce i cant stand how slow the vanilla combat is its a huge improvement
@@Александар-МЈанкоски What's the name?, i'd check it out
@@victorcampbell1868 Origins Faster Combat
@@Александар-МЈанкоски Thanks!!
Try
Awakening in the OC
Or
DRAGON AGE REBORN
Both are on nexus very fun mods
Hmmm so I done all of this but the mods are not showing or working so idk what I am doing wrong lol :( been tryin to do this for 2 days now
Hi can you answer me please
I wanted to instal alistar wedding but i made a new override folder put the mod but my game is delected can you please help me
I installed a ton of mods long ago in my DA:O installation.
Have a question, I want to install improved atmosphere but I don't know what file will interfere wit my Alistair mods! what files do I avoid ?
I'm not sure off the top of my head -- but each of the mods should tell you if there's a conflict and if so what files to remove for it!
some of these mods aren't going into the mod manager. and i can't find the bin_ship folder. I am in my dao folder and it's not in there
i found it by opening the game and going into documents
doubt im going to get a response to a 2 year video but im going to try anyway, I cannot get the mods to work, I thought this would work like how modding works for the KOTOR games with the override folder but nothing is working, I installed the DA2 warden armor mods and duncan should be wearing said armor but he keeps spawning with no clothes or weapons and I have to erase all my DAO folders and reinstall my game to fix it, this is for the steam version of the game.
@@FoodThenGames thank you, and yes the mod is grey wardens of ferelden
Hey guys, I want to get an XBOX Game Pass for PC, or the EA game pass, both of them have the trilogy, is it possible to mod them in these launchers?
Why am I getting errors when I try to use the Updater for dazip files? I extracted them to a place completely outside my game installation path
I've encountered the same issue which seems to point to OneDrive being the culprit - unfortunately I haven't figured out a fix yet
tech stuff might as well be a foreign language to me. I have no idea what I'm doing and this couldn't fix that. like in the video you open an archive or something? I literally have no clue how to do that or anything else.
i'm confused should i use the DAO modmanager override folder or the one i made in the original game folder
You’d either use the mod manager OR the override folder + the installer in the game folder depending on the mod. I personally don’t use the mod manager and use the other two but it’s 100% personal preference
Do you need a separate Overide folder for Awakening?
Nope it's all the same folder! However make sure that the mod you're using is compatible with Awakening before using or you get the Awakening specific version of it!
@@FoodThenGames it was the Awakening riot scene Persuasion fix. I'm not sure if that's the exact name, but something like that
If im not mistaken there are mods that enable a little bit more gore in the game which i don´t recall its name, and another one which makes the character performs insteresting finishes on its foes. Do you know them by chance?
I don't I'm sorry!
