Well, this is strange. I live in Canada, have so my whole life, but I never saw this Canadian opening of Tintin before today. On tv in the 90’s when this first aired, I only saw the French version of the opening.

@@asch7906 Blake and Mortimer was Ellipse only; but yeah, it was obviously a follow-up to the success of the Tintin animated series. I can get why Nelvana wouldn't join on that, since the Blake and Mortimer comic books weren't a global phenomenon on the scale of the Tintin books. There were a TON of animated TV series based on French-Belgian comics in the wake of Ellipse-Nelvana's Tintin, though. Michel Vaillant, Iznogoud, Orson & Olivia, Achille Talon, Billy the Cat, Papyrus, Bob Morane, etc. The Tintin series definitely started a wave.
The two boxsets that surfaced in stores in Canada in the mid 2000s, actually use both intros in different episodes. For example, on one of those DVDs, The Seven Crystal Balls uses the intro on the left, whereas Prisoners of the Sun uses the intro on the right. My favorite is the one on the left. Can't get enough of Tintin punching that boat. XD
Yeah, I learned about that recently. I've had the opportunity to check out some of those Canadian NTSC DVDs -- and it turned out that the episodes using the Canadian intro are native NTSC masters; while the episodes using the French intro have frame blending throughout, hinting that they're sourced from the PAL masters used in Europe. (For the record, the Canadian intro seen in my video is from Shout! Factory's American DVD edition, while the French intro is from a Norwegian PAL DVD edition released in 2004. Yes, the old French masters have frame blending even on the PAL DVDs.) I love that cut from Tintin's punch to the ship exploding. :P Even though I do prefer the French intro that I grew up with for feeling more 'Tintin' to me (it doesn't have those off-model shots of Haddock either, for understandable reasons).
Yea lol, when I first saw the intros on the right like a few days ago, I was like ¨Wtf, why is there no Tintin boat punching scene?!?!¨ Then I started scouting youtube and finally found out after watching this vid.
@@Mesterius1 I am from French Canada (Québec of course) and this extract comes from the French canadian Black Island it comes from the french canadian CBC wich is RDI (Radio-Canada) and it does feature the nort-american intro translated into french. I even have a Crab with the golden claws VHS with the weird talking snowy that was adapted into french by Quebecers from the english intro (and now an old man does snowys voice, still with english texts) and right after there is the normal punch and action north american intro (french texts) and then the normal european french episode. funny how the québec one is a bunch of english and french introduction titles, then québec voice intro, then the european french episode... i will publish this weird VHS soon on my channel and put the link here when its done if it interests you.

I've grown up with the French version and I think it has the best selection and timing of clips. Although, I think the sound effects in the Canadian version is a really nice touch and has a great dramatic effect on the whole thing.

In the 90s and early 00s, the intro we got in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium was the Canadian one. As cool as the comic panels of the PAL intro is, the editing of the Canadian one is just a slightly bit better.
Until now I didn't know there was an other version than the PAL version. Both versions have their qualities but I think the PAL version do a better job pacing the scenes and taking time introducing the characters. First we only have Tintin and Snowy, then Haddock, Tournesol, Nestor. Then a scene with everyone and finally beautiful landscapes with the underwater section and the space section. The only bad point I find now that I've seen both, is that the first logo screen at around 12 sec is way too long and couls have been used to put some more scenes. The NTSC one feels a bit messier, with a lot af cuts and I don't think the SFX were necessary. Also some scenes have a completly different art style (the one with Rackam or the one with Hadock coming out of the snow). But I like some of the scenes, like the Castafiore singing and breaking a window, the egyptian door background and the boat chase. That would be intersting to see an edited version of the french opening, with a shorter title and more scenes to compensate.
Fun fact the french intro is what was used in iran and other middle eastern countries And since i am an iranian the french intro is nostalgic and the canadian is new to me
Those scenes are so memorable. Amazing. I knew there was something great in this cartoon. They were made to perfection. The characters, dialogue, mysteries all so memorable.
The Canadian version is the one we had on HBO and Nickelodeon. The French version I did see when I visited Canada. It was on a French Canadian channel that also use to show Goof Troop and Animaniacs in French
That's interesting. I'm under the impression that both versions of the intro have been broadcast in Canada over the years. The Canadian DVD releases from Universal actually alternate between the two intros in the episode prints they use. (Still, it's worth noting that the episode prints with the French intro edit have frameblending, while the episode prints with the Canadian intro edit are native NTSC.)
In Indonesian TV, they used the Canadian version. I watched it on TV 10 years ago. Then after the series was no longer on TV, I saw the series on TH-cam and the intro is different from what I'm used to seeing on TV. Mostly on TH-cam using the French version and on TV using the Canadian version.
I remembered so many things of the Canadian version as a kid, specially Castafiore's sing that are not there in my DVDs, now i know why, they're from the UK. Thanks for the vid.

I've watched both intros on TV over the course of my life. But frankly, I prefer the Canadian intro. It feels more dynamic than the other intro, and I prefer TV intros that managed to be as dynamic as possible. Also, Bianca Castafiore singing, followed by a shot of the window breaking... That always made me laugh. XD Plus, I'm probably alone about this, but I always thought the Thom(p)sons receiving a book on their heads and diving into the sand in the other intro looked weird. Probably because that part of the intro suddenly had fewer frames than the rest of the intro for some reason.
Interesting... it seems the European edit of the scene with the Thom(p)sons getting a book on their heads slowed down the animation a bit? I never minded the shot of them diving into the sand though, as I love the animation there. It looks so much better than the animation of the same scene in the actual "Land of Gold" episode. Speaking of frames, the French editors clearly also preferred Tintin to be running faster than he did in the Canadian intro.
that's your nostalgia talking. The pacing of the french version is unmatched. The way it handles the beginning as a comic book with impeccable use of action shots and anticipation alongside the song cue is 10/10. And then the scene pacing (not selection) with the music is damn good too.

Back then, I only watched one or two episodes of this TV series and read one or two of the comics, and they weren't very appealing to me at the time. It's only when I got much older that I became a Tintin fan. As such, I have no strong nostalgic feelings towards either intro.

Interesting how the Canadian added sound effects to the scenes, but unforgivable how they omitted the comic book border in the opening with the train. Danish here btw, my mother had a VHS with hours upon hours of this show recorded for me and my sibs that we watched all the time.
As I say in the video description, I'm just about certain it was the other way around: the Canadian intro edit was very likely done first, and then the French edit happened afterwards because the European rightholder had different preferences. If you study the old French master as seen in the above video, you'll notice that the animation has frameblending (because it's been converted from an NTSC master), while the video effects with the comic book borders don't have any frameblending. To me, that's another indication that the French intro edit was done after the Canadian: the video effects were clearly edited in PAL format *after* the tape masters had been converted from NTSC.

XD Though I'm almost afraid to ask what "everything else" entails. :P I prefer the French intro version too, probably largely because I grew up with it. I like its selection of scenes better, and also *loved* the comic book borders when I watched it as a kid. (That said, from a techincal viewpoint, the Canadian edit is better in at least one way: the animation doesn't have the frameblending seen in the French edit.) For me, the most bizarre part of the Canadian intro is the off-model shot of Captain Haddock at 00:46. It's from the 1990 pilot film, which was the source for a lot of the animation in the intro sequence... but seriously, did NO ONE object to that shot being used in the intro? That the French edit DOESN'T have it kinda makes it better by default. :P
I think I prefer the French version, simply because it’s the original. And in that sense it’s unmatched, because every shot was specifically created for the intro and never used in the actual episodes. The Canadian uses both bits from the original intro as well as shots from the episodes, so it feels disjointed. That being said, I do like the spirit of the Canadian version. It’s action oriented, and feels more epic in that sense. It is a bit misleading because Tintin is not exactly an action hero, and the French version captures more the essence of action/humor/wonder, but the Canadian version might be just more fun!
I grew up here in Australia and I became more fond of the Canadian intro since it was the only version I watched on TV. The Netflix streaming version we had here on the other hand used the original French intro which is odd to me but it was still very nice.

@@LennWeltmeister That's the remastered French version of the series, which was first released in the mid-2000s. It uses the 1993 CD version of the theme for some reason. The original French video masters from the 90s use the instrumental theme heard in this video.
Ah, interesting. When doing the video, I tried to find out as much as I could about which countries used the different versions of the intro. The conclusion was that the Canadian intro was seen almost exlusively in NTSC countries, with the exception of Indonesia and The Netherlands, which are PAL. I guess I can now also add Australia to that list. :) I haven't seen any Australian TV recordings or video rips, so prior to this I had no way of knowing what intro version had been used there. Do you know if the Canadian intro also got released on VHS/DVD in Australia?
I knew it! I first saw the Tintin animated series when it aired on ABC kids in the early 2000s. The Canadian intro was the intro I first saw! When I found Tintin many years later, I saw the french intro. At first, when I saw the french intro, I thought there was something a bit off about the intro, but it had been years so, I have forgotten what the intro looks like, and I just assumed that was the real intro. But wow! After all these years, I finally realised that Tintin had two intros and the Canadian intro was the one I first saw. My mind wasn't playing any tricks.

I wouldn't say one version is necessarily more "right" than the other. As I mention in the video description, the left version was likely the edit that was made first, on Nelvana's side of the production. But since the Netherlands is a PAL country, it's a bit surprsing you got the version usually seen in NTSC areas. I also find it interesting the Dutch intro had custom-made text titles: th-cam.com/video/7dLLkAiTP68/w-d-xo.html The HD remaster of the Tintin intro is actually a complete re-edit where they recreated all the video effects and title logos digitally, as that stuff was clearly edited on videotape in the early 90s. It makes sense that this version is used in the Netherlands today, as all of Europe seems to be currently using the HD remaster of the series distributed by French rightholder Mediatoon.

Thanks! I'm actually a little surprised I've never seen anyone do this before. I grew up with the French intro, too, so I think I'll always prefer it from that perspective. :) It also just feels like it captures a bit more of the overall feel of Tintin to me, while the Canadian intro is all action all the time. (But of course, that difference is what makes it fun to compare them.)

The Canadian one definitely feels like it's trying to sell Tintin to an American audience; the vague Americanisation of the stories was always my main issue with the Nelvana series (though thankfully it's not as bad as the Belvision series in this respect). Still, for what it's worth, it's a nice, punchy intro; I've always liked the cut from Tintin punching to the Unicorn exploding!
@@animfan98 I find that cut funny myself, but it's also so extremely over the top. :P It really pinpoints how they're trying to sell the series based on action and violence. The irony, of course, is that this is the only way they were even allowed to show physical violence in the Nelvana series. It was always a closeup of Tintin punching into the camera, then a separate closeup of the villain groaning and falling over. :P Whereas Hergé's original comic book albums had full-figure panels of characters punching each other all the time.

As much i like both scenes, i feel the French intro where the comic strip part has always stuck in my head and it has always been the most creative and is the most memorable part of the intro to me.

I don't think any of the European Netflix releases use the Canadian video masters. On Netflix here in Norway, Season 1 of the Tintin series is currently available in Mediatoon's HD-remastered version, with the modern-day recreation of the French intro edit. (Netflix Norway had the whole series a few years ago, but lately it's just been one season.)
Naturally we all prefer the version we grew up with. And of course, watching this from France when I was a kid, I prefer the French version. I like how they pay tribute to the comics at the start.

Both the Canadian and French versions of the opening existed with French and English text titles from the start. In the UK, for example, the French intro edit was used with English titles when the series premiered in the 90s. And in French Canada, a version of the Canadian intro with French text titles was used, often if not always. The current French rightholder Mediatoon remastered the series in HD in the mid-2000s, basing their HD version of the intro on the old French edit. In "their" markets, the HD remaster has been released with both French and English titles. Nelvana still distributes the Canadian version of the show in Canada and the United States, though. Which country are you in?

@@Gazaraki89 Actually, that's not the case. North America *has* got a complete series release of The Adventures of Tintin on DVD -- three season sets released by Shout! Factory in 2011-2012. These DVDs use Nelvana's Canadian video masters, complete with the Canadian intro sequence seen here. The sets are still in print and can be purchased on Amazon... and Shout! Factory also distributes the series on Prime Video in the US. As for Australia, they actually did use the Canadian intro edit originally, as I've learned from other Aussie commenters here (surprisingly enough, since Australia is a PAL country), but in later releases on DVD, it's been replaced with the French edit.
It's actually not ghosting per se, but frameblending. The reason is that the old, French PAL video masters for the Tintin series were converted directly from the 29.97 fps Canadian NTSC masters. When you just do a straight transfer from NTSC to PAL - without performing inverse telecine, changing the tempo, etc - it results in frameblending. I own some older DVDs with the French 1990s PAL masters, and they all have this frameblending throughout -- whereas the original, Canadian NTSC masters do not. (You can find the NTSC masters on Shout! Factory's American Tintin DVD sets, among other places.) What seems to have happened with the intro - as I mention in the video description - is that the animated footage was first converted from NTSC to PAL, creating the frameblending; and then the custom video effects were done in PAL format. Thus, the animation in the PAL version has frameblending while the video effects do not.

The reason why I asked was because I recently rented the movie from my local library and saw the frame blending and thought that it must be my dvd or a common problem, so I decided to google it and found this video. Also I am kind fond of the danish dub I grew up with.
@@ibleminen I'm fond of the Norwegian dub too, because of the nostalgia I have for watching the series on Norwegian television. :) So I very much understand. The Tintin series (or part of it, anyway) is currently available in a widescreen-cropped HD remaster on the Scandinavian Netflix. But I actually prefer my old DVD set with the unrestored SD masters, frameblending and all. Mediatoon's HD remaster just changes too much. Plus, the frameblending isn't really that noticeable when I watch the DVDs on my TV set through a DVD player.

I've grown up with the French version and I think it has the best selection and timing of clips. Although, I think the sound effects in the Canadian version is a really nice touch and has a great dramatic effect on the whole thing.
I really like the Tintin story, from the comics to the films and series, especially the Canadian version of the intro that always sticks in my brain, very memorable And brings back childhood memories

I’ve never put much thought into the intro. But I have seen the French version far more times now that my recollections are more accurate.
In the 90s and early 00s, the intro we got in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium was the Canadian one. As cool as the comic panels of the PAL intro is, the editing of the Canadian one is just a slightly bit better.
Until now I didn't know there was an other version than the PAL version. Both versions have their qualities but I think the PAL version do a better job pacing the scenes and taking time introducing the characters. First we only have Tintin and Snowy, then Haddock, Tournesol, Nestor. Then a scene with everyone and finally beautiful landscapes with the underwater section and the space section. The only bad point I find now that I've seen both, is that the first logo screen at around 12 sec is way too long and couls have been used to put some more scenes.
The NTSC one feels a bit messier, with a lot af cuts and I don't think the SFX were necessary. Also some scenes have a completly different art style (the one with Rackam or the one with Hadock coming out of the snow). But I like some of the scenes, like the Castafiore singing and breaking a window, the egyptian door background and the boat chase.
That would be intersting to see an edited version of the french opening, with a shorter title and more scenes to compensate.

The Canadian version is the one we had on HBO and Nickelodeon. The French version I did see when I visited Canada. It was on a French Canadian channel that also use to show Goof Troop and Animaniacs in French
That's interesting. I'm under the impression that both versions of the intro have been broadcast in Canada over the years. The Canadian DVD releases from Universal actually alternate between the two intros in the episode prints they use. (Still, it's worth noting that the episode prints with the French intro edit have frameblending, while the episode prints with the Canadian intro edit are native NTSC.)

In Indonesian TV, they used the Canadian version.
I watched it on TV 10 years ago. Then after the series was no longer on TV, I saw the series on TH-cam and the intro is different from what I'm used to seeing on TV. Mostly on TH-cam using the French version and on TV using the Canadian version.
In Australia (PAL) we definitely got the Canadian opening I'm not crazy.
The Canadian intro of 'The Adventures of Tintin' was also used for the Dutch episodes.

The version I saw on tv in the 90's was the Canadian one.. this brings a lot of good memories of being a kid.
I've watched both intros on TV over the course of my life. But frankly, I prefer the Canadian intro. It feels more dynamic than the other intro, and I prefer TV intros that managed to be as dynamic as possible. Also, Bianca Castafiore singing, followed by a shot of the window breaking... That always made me laugh. XD Plus, I'm probably alone about this, but I always thought the Thom(p)sons receiving a book on their heads and diving into the sand in the other intro looked weird. Probably because that part of the intro suddenly had fewer frames than the rest of the intro for some reason.
Interesting... it seems the European edit of the scene with the Thom(p)sons getting a book on their heads slowed down the animation a bit? I never minded the shot of them diving into the sand though, as I love the animation there. It looks so much better than the animation of the same scene in the actual "Land of Gold" episode.
Speaking of frames, the French editors clearly also preferred Tintin to be running faster than he did in the Canadian intro.
that's your nostalgia talking. The pacing of the french version is unmatched. The way it handles the beginning as a comic book with impeccable use of action shots and anticipation alongside the song cue is 10/10. And then the scene pacing (not selection) with the music is damn good too.

Back then, I only watched one or two episodes of this TV series and read one or two of the comics, and they weren't very appealing to me at the time. It's only when I got much older that I became a Tintin fan. As such, I have no strong nostalgic feelings towards either intro.

Interesting how the Canadian added sound effects to the scenes, but unforgivable how they omitted the comic book border in the opening with the train. Danish here btw, my mother had a VHS with hours upon hours of this show recorded for me and my sibs that we watched all the time.
As I say in the video description, I'm just about certain it was the other way around: the Canadian intro edit was very likely done first, and then the French edit happened afterwards because the European rightholder had different preferences.
If you study the old French master as seen in the above video, you'll notice that the animation has frameblending (because it's been converted from an NTSC master), while the video effects with the comic book borders don't have any frameblending. To me, that's another indication that the French intro edit was done after the Canadian: the video effects were clearly edited in PAL format *after* the tape masters had been converted from NTSC.

I prefer the French intro version too, probably largely because I grew up with it. I like its selection of scenes better, and also *loved* the comic book borders when I watched it as a kid. (That said, from a techincal viewpoint, the Canadian edit is better in at least one way: the animation doesn't have the frameblending seen in the French edit.)
For me, the most bizarre part of the Canadian intro is the off-model shot of Captain Haddock at 00:46. It's from the 1990 pilot film, which was the source for a lot of the animation in the intro sequence... but seriously, did NO ONE object to that shot being used in the intro? That the French edit DOESN'T have it kinda makes it better by default. :P

I think I prefer the French version, simply because it’s the original. And in that sense it’s unmatched, because every shot was specifically created for the intro and never used in the actual episodes.
The Canadian uses both bits from the original intro as well as shots from the episodes, so it feels disjointed.
That being said, I do like the spirit of the Canadian version. It’s action oriented, and feels more epic in that sense. It is a bit misleading because Tintin is not exactly an action hero, and the French version captures more the essence of action/humor/wonder, but the Canadian version might be just more fun!

I grew up here in Australia and I became more fond of the Canadian intro since it was the only version I watched on TV.
The Netflix streaming version we had here on the other hand used the original French intro which is odd to me but it was still very nice.

@@LennWeltmeister That's the remastered French version of the series, which was first released in the mid-2000s. It uses the 1993 CD version of the theme for some reason. The original French video masters from the 90s use the instrumental theme heard in this video.

Ah, interesting. When doing the video, I tried to find out as much as I could about which countries used the different versions of the intro. The conclusion was that the Canadian intro was seen almost exlusively in NTSC countries, with the exception of Indonesia and The Netherlands, which are PAL. I guess I can now also add Australia to that list. :)
I haven't seen any Australian TV recordings or video rips, so prior to this I had no way of knowing what intro version had been used there. Do you know if the Canadian intro also got released on VHS/DVD in Australia?

I knew it! I first saw the Tintin animated series when it aired on ABC kids in the early 2000s. The Canadian intro was the intro I first saw! When I found Tintin many years later, I saw the french intro. At first, when I saw the french intro, I thought there was something a bit off about the intro, but it had been years so, I have forgotten what the intro looks like, and I just assumed that was the real intro. But wow! After all these years, I finally realised that Tintin had two intros and the Canadian intro was the one I first saw. My mind wasn't playing any tricks.

In Dutch (Netherlands) I've grown up with the left version (PAL). That's odd. Only later on at the remaster they got to the right version.
I wouldn't say one version is necessarily more "right" than the other. As I mention in the video description, the left version was likely the edit that was made first, on Nelvana's side of the production. But since the Netherlands is a PAL country, it's a bit surprsing you got the version usually seen in NTSC areas. The HD remaster of the Tintin intro is actually a complete re-edit where they recreated all the video effects and title logos digitally, as that stuff was clearly edited on videotape in the early 90s. It makes sense that this version is used in the Netherlands today, as all of Europe seems to be currently using the HD remaster of the series distributed by French rightholder Mediatoon.

I grew up with the French intro, too, so I think I'll always prefer it from that perspective. :) It also just feels like it captures a bit more of the overall feel of Tintin to me, while the Canadian intro is all action all the time. (But of course, that difference is what makes it fun to compare them.)
@@Mesterius1 I completely agree, it perfectly captures the feel of the books. The Canadian one definitely feels like it's trying to sell Tintin to an American audience; the vague Americanisation of the stories was always my main issue with the Nelvana series (though thankfully it's not as bad as the Belvision series in this respect). Still, for what it's worth, it's a nice, punchy intro; I've always liked the cut from Tintin punching to the Unicorn exploding!
@@animfan98 I find that cut funny myself, but it's also so extremely over the top. :P It really pinpoints how they're trying to sell the series based on action and violence. The irony, of course, is that this is the only way they were even allowed to show physical violence in the Nelvana series. It was always a closeup of Tintin punching into the camera, then a separate closeup of the villain groaning and falling over. :P Whereas Hergé's original comic book albums had full-figure panels of characters punching each other all the time.

On the other hand, I have seen the Canadian NTSC DVD releases from the 2000s, where some episodes have the Canadian intro version and others have the French intro version. So both versions do seem to have had some circulation in NTSC areas. (Worth mentioning, though: the episodes with the French intro version on those Canadian DVDs seem to be converted back from PAL, whereas the episodes with the Canadian intro version are native NTSC.)
I'm pretty sure the French version was also shown in the US at some point, because I distinctly remember the title card looking the same.

I don't think any of the European Netflix releases use the Canadian video masters. On Netflix here in Norway, Season 1 of the Tintin series is currently available in Mediatoon's HD-remastered version, with the modern-day recreation of the French intro edit. (Netflix Norway had the whole series a few years ago, but lately it's just been one season.)
Just like in most of the PAL countries, the French intro is used in Finland. I prefer the French intro.

Both the Canadian and French versions of the opening existed with French and English text titles from the start. In the UK, for example, the French intro edit was used with English titles when the series premiered in the 90s. And in French Canada, a version of the Canadian intro with French text titles was used, often if not always.
The current French rightholder Mediatoon remastered the series in HD in the mid-2000s, basing their HD version of the intro on the old French edit. In "their" markets, the HD remaster has been released with both French and English titles. Nelvana still distributes the Canadian version of the show in Canada and the United States, though.

@@Gazaraki89 Actually, that's not the case. North America *has* got a complete series release of The Adventures of Tintin on DVD -- three season sets released by Shout! Factory in 2011-2012. These DVDs use Nelvana's Canadian video masters, complete with the Canadian intro sequence seen here. The sets are still in print and can be purchased on Amazon... and Shout! Factory also distributes the series on Prime Video in the US.
As for Australia, they actually did use the Canadian intro edit originally, as I've learned from other Aussie commenters here (surprisingly enough, since Australia is a PAL country), but in later releases on DVD, it's been replaced with the French edit.

It's actually not ghosting per se, but frameblending. The reason is that the old, French PAL video masters for the Tintin series were converted directly from the 29.97 fps Canadian NTSC masters. When you just do a straight transfer from NTSC to PAL - without performing inverse telecine, changing the tempo, etc - it results in frameblending. I own some older DVDs with the French 1990s PAL masters, and they all have this frameblending throughout -- whereas the original, Canadian NTSC masters do not. (You can find the NTSC masters on Shout! Factory's American Tintin DVD sets, among other places.)
What seems to have happened with the intro - as I mention in the video description - is that the animated footage was first converted from NTSC to PAL, creating the frameblending; and then the custom video effects were done in PAL format. Thus, the animation in the PAL version has frameblending while the video effects do not.

The reason why I asked was because I recently rented the movie from my local library and saw the frame blending and thought that it must be my dvd or a common problem, so I decided to google it and found this video. Also I am kind fond of the danish dub I grew up with.
@@ibleminen I'm fond of the Norwegian dub too, because of the nostalgia I have for watching the series on Norwegian television. :) So I very much understand. The Tintin series (or part of it, anyway) is currently available in a widescreen-cropped HD remaster on the Scandinavian Netflix. But I actually prefer my old DVD set with the unrestored SD masters, frameblending and all. Mediatoon's HD remaster just changes too much. Plus, the frameblending isn't really that noticeable when I watch the DVDs on my TV set through a DVD player.

Actually... based on the research I did when putting together this video, Brazil was one of the countries which used the *Canadian* opening. Which makes sense, seeing as Brazil is an NTSC country. You can find several TH-cam uploads of the opening under the title "As Aventuras de Tintim", featuring the Canadian intro edit with a Brazilian Portuguese voiceover on the title card. If Brazil uses the French intro today, I suspect it may be because you are currently getting the 2000s HD remaster distributed by Mediatoon, the French rightholder.
