  • In this video, Greg and Karlyn (Greg's daughter) cut the concrete slab for our plumbing to our barn house. Greg rented the perfect tools for a crappy job - a walk-behind concrete saw and a jack hammer. The plumber gave specific measurements for them to follow and the cuts end up looking pretty good - Karlyn and Greg on the other hand, pretty messy by the end!
    Did you know we are building our barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill?! If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the slab last summer, we milled most of the lumber needed over this past winter and are now starting to prepare to put in another slab for our garage and the rest of the house.
    Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from @BarnGeek . We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns and turn it into our home.
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
    ***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
    Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
    Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
    Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
    Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
    We have shared the entire build!

    It was nice to have Karlyn helping with this project! Messy, but went pretty smoothly. I have a question for you at the end of the video about electrical boxes - if you have any tips! Hope you enjoy this video! 🙂

    Breaking up concrete is never fun. At least this wasn't concrete that had spent 50 years getting harder. I did a batch of that for a bathroom remodel last summer.
    Congrats to your daughter. Thanks for bringing us along

    Nice job allowing for repurpose use for utilities, This is why it's so important to get all these into the base before pouring the slab. That does not apply here where you changed use after slab pour but is still an excellant example of the need to get as much as possible done before concrete is poured. Ray

      @@ourdreaminthewoods I am not being clear I am 100% in support of you cutting into the grade slab. What I was trying to convey is that this thru no fault of yours this is a great example of why it's important to get this done ahead of concrete. Thanks for writing, I enjoy your content and look forward to each new video. Ray

    I've missed some of your earlier videos that may have answered this: Why did you not put plumbing in the ground BEFORE you poured the slab?

    • @garryburton-bz2nc
      @garryburton-bz2nc 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Does seem to be a shame, to pour the slab ,then cut and weaken it in this way. Must be a reason.

      Yes, definitely a shame to cut that slab we worked so hard on.
      Change of plans.
      Shop turned house.
      At least most of the plumbing is in the back half.

    Why are you cutting fresh concrete for plumbing? Why did you not put the plumbing in before you poured?

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Hi, we poured this slab about a year ago, thinking it was going to be our barn/shop. Our plans had to change and now we are turning this into our home. 😁
