    This post is right on the money. I had injectors installed few months ago 03 LB7, the mechanic would only perform the repairs if i had him install a FASS fuel filtering system. The truck now runs and sounds incredible.

    1001 LB7. I've had a the on going problem with losing cool. Not in my well it's not on the ground. Recently my truck his start a to smoke lightly white smoke I'm hoping it's not injector but I've also been told that it could be sucking air through a hole on Turbo i Intake. I was told that would make it smooth. Justin of your thoughts if you've ever heard that about the cooling. I wouldn't "you on those just would like some insight thank you very much

    I have a 2002 just replace one side and got a bad rebuild,So I got four more and would you believe another bad rebuild so I'm done with rebuilds can't keep tearing down buy new bolts and seals every time you open up wasted too much time on rebuilds, if this doesn't work looks like new for me. Right now I don't have a good feeling that these are going to last.

    I had received the "extended warranty" letter Chevy had sent out. I took my '03 Duramax to the Chevy dealer in Monohans TX to have it repaired. They call back telling me it does not meet the criteria for the warranty but 3 injectors are bad and it would be $3400 to replace the 3 injectors. I called Chevy and they agreed to split the cost with me. This obviously pissed off the Dealer and he kept the truck for 4 weeks to replace the 3 injectors. When it was finally ready I drove it a total of 150 miles and it blew up. I had them come get the truck and then they tell me it was the high pressure fuel pump had gone out and it cost me another $1500 to get the truck fixed again. I learn by hard knocks and this one was pretty hard.
    I since learned the Dealer was very much probably lying about the injectors. I learned that all 8 should have been replaced. And I learned that Chevy Dealer and the service manager are pieces of shit.

    Install video will come at a later date. We did not name any specific brands because there are so many. Pretty much any tuner will check your balance rates. Also most local auto parts store will have scanners and they will scan your vehicle for free.

      I have a 08 LMM and all my balance rates are - left bank and + on right bank ---- but all injectors are between 0.2 and 1.4 -- is that normal for the + or - on one side ??

  • @cristianosilva6052

    If my truck has a tuner do I have to go back to stock mode to check for injector balance rates?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, balance rates are at idle and any “tunes” will not affect that.

  • @stevewaclo167
    @stevewaclo167 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Getting specific about what fails in LB7 injectors. I'm on my second set @140k (1st@70) and have been able to temporarily reduce haze and strong exhaust smell with GM injector cleaner and lately, Seafoam. Does that mean nozzle replacement might solve my problem? Or is it internals? or both? BTW, 1st set in '08.

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be both. I say that because the haze is coming from worn components in the nozzle. Whatever contaminant hurt the nozzle probably compromised the ball seat (internals), etc. That being said, my suggestion would be to replace the injector as an assembly.

    • @stevewaclo167
      @stevewaclo167 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Thoroughbred Diesel, thanks for your advice! I'm going to have my balance rates checked, then run another dose of the AC/Delco injector cleaner thru and check again. I'm puzzled that my last cleaning eliminated diesel smell (no hazing before or after) but of course the problem returned within 3k, this time with haze. I say I'm puzzled because it would seem if internals and/or nozzles are worn, no amount of cleaning would replace lost metal. Of course, without a scanner I'm in the dark and with a scan tool, I might have seen improvement in BR's post-cleaning, enough to minimize odor, but still out of spec. As a retiree, my time is valued at close to 0$, and although I'm not keen about going in twice, I'm tempted to do a "nozzles only" exercise. Sigh LB7's 😟😟😟
      And hey, you do know that plastic protector peels off your scanner screen, right? 😄

    • @stevewaclo167
      @stevewaclo167 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ended up DIY/R&R of my injectors and have since learned primary failure mode is VCO pintles not shutting off completely, allowing diesel fuel to coke on the tips, disrupting the spray pattern and allowing unburned fuel to pass out the exhaust in a haze. SAC’s, as used I all later Duramax are available and have a much better history of reliability.

    I have a 2002 LB7 Duramax and i'm sure I have at least one bad injector. I put rebuilt Boch injectors in at 80,000 and now at 120,000 I need to do it again!! I use Lucas additive every tank of fuel. I want to know what injectors would be the best to replace these this time? I have heard many people say they have used different injectors.

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple of things could be going on there. You will want to start with getting your balance rates for your injectors and work from there. A puff of smoke at startup is normal.

    I've been working on injectors for 4 months, wish this one would run as nice as yours, then I could get it down the road to trade it off for a cummins, I've changed all 8 injectors twice, never left the shop and again it's knocking and clouds of black smoke. done $8000.00 work so far now its got to be torn down again.

  • @justanotherdmax

    My lb7 is doing the same thing but all balance rates are good. But I do believe I have a head gasket issue or injector cup issue. Can that be the problem to?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be either. Is it consuming coolant? Your balance rates could also be good and have an injector problem. It doesn’t take much fuel that is leaked into the cylinder at the wrong time to make haze at idle. You could 100% isolate this by blocking off the injector lines and seeing which cylinder stops smoking.

  • @michealsanderford9115

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still, need to suspect injectors. The only way to try to isolate for sure is to cap the lines of one or so at a time. Injector pricing is relative to what you what to do. Pricing from 180 a piece too? depending on what you go with.

    I have 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500hd 6.6 lb7. At idle using my PPE unit all my injectors are reading + 3-4.5 . I am using the air dog full pump, my understanding of your post is at a + reading the system is trying to cut fuel back, so is my pressure set to high on the adjustable air dog pump ?
    My issue is no smoke, everything checks out at the shop, but if you get on it there is no real power, as I have a lot of after market parts, 50 over injectors, 5" exhaust , 4" down pipe, aFE air flow system, air dog 165 fuel pump, PPE tuner, 1-10 settings. Unless you get on it you would not notice it lacks power, as the shop agreed, but the as I are stumped.
    Any input would be greatly appreciated .
    Thanks,
    Duane

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Duane DeValkeneer A plus reading means that the cylinder is increasing delivered fuel. A couple things to look at here. What lift pump pressure are you running right now? Is the truck throwing any codes? Other than lack of power, are you noticing anything else?

    Anyway you can watch my LB7 smoke like crazy (video here: th-cam.com/video/TYMcnokmzcM/w-d-xo.html) and tell me if you think it is injectors? Runs like-new! It is at diesel mechanic (backyarder) and he thinks it is something with air getting into fuel line....He said he doesn't think it is injectors...and if it is as simple as connected a scanner to check balance rates then I don't think he can mess that diagnosis up (not injectors?)

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously, it is hard for me to tell from a video. But if the truck is not using oil or coolant, I can almost 100% guarantee you that is injector tips leaking.

    • @mrnathanwest
      @mrnathanwest 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mechanic thinks the heavy smoke is from a bad injection pump causing (excuse my reinterpretation and poor wording): flowing no fuel to flowing lots of fuel??? Is it even possible for a malfunctioning pump to cause smoke?
