I have never used it on a engine but I mix 50% acetone and 50% automatic transmission fluid. I have taken loose bolts I thought would never come out, I even used it on a PTO shaft on my Kubota G1900 lawn mower, the shaft was stuck on the mid PTO and I couldn't get it off for nothing. I then poured my mixture on and let it sit over night. The next day I gave it a tap with a hammer and it slid right off. That sold me on that stuff right there!

    Great information!
We got an old frozen engine running using Aero Kroil.
Same deal, let it soak a few weeks, then hand cranked the old starter crank!
Had to stand on it at first, but eventually it was free enough to got the next steps and she runs well now.

The boss bought a welder on a skid powered by a 2-53 detroit. Motor was locked bad, I broke a 24" pipe wrench using a 4ft cheeter pipe. Rethought things a bit. Used a product made by Zep. Pulled the cover plates off the motor and started spraying zep 45 into the cylinders, then air blow gun to blow crude and help the zep45 work into the piston rings, used a whole can. About and hour later I took an 18" cresent wrench on the front crank bolt, just bumping back and forth, it finally made a complete turn. I hooked a battery to it and it started right up, course it smoked for a bit but cleared up. Darn thing turned out to be a good little motor.....

I've used this several times and it's worked. The last time on a cub that sat out in the weather for years with the manifold off. Mix auto trans fluid 1 to 1 with break fluid and pore it in the cylinders. Let it sit a few days, put the tractor in high gear and rock it back and forth a few times. If it doesn't turn rock it some more tomorrow and the next day until is breaks loose. If it's been several weeks and it's still stuck go to plan B whatever that is.

ATF thinned with a little diesel in the cylinders. Yank valve cover so you can close/open valves as needed, and compressed air through the sparkplug/injector hole. alternate pressurizing cylinders to rock it back and forth. Air also helps push the oil down around the rings

    • @tyfrank3427
      @tyfrank3427 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Good idea. you're on the right track... I use acetone/ATF to soak them. The compressed air is a good idea, you're thinking right, but I use something much more forceful than compressed air...

Ok, What I do is put marvel mystery oil in cylinders. Try to get a breaker bar or big wrench on damper wheel and physically break it loose. Last ditch I pull off starter and using a big screwdriver or pry bar I angle it and catch the ring gear and lever it to break it loose. This is risky but so far I have unfrozen several tractors without breaking the ring gear. Once the crank turns a little, let it sit with the thin oil in it overnight. Replace starter and fireup with starting fluid for only a moment. Make sure battery is hot. Good Luck

Just bought a styled WC. I yanked the head off and determined that #2 and #3 are stuck tight. I've been soaking it in ATF/acetone for a week. I've got one wheel off the ground and I put it in gear and violently rock it back and forth a few times a day. It'll break loose any day now.

Overhead valves you loosen rocker shaft till valves are closed. Break the porcelain off your spark plugs. Braze an airline fitting to the spark plug base. Pour in a few ounces of Marvel. Hook an air line up to it. On flat head motors you remove the exhaust pipe and carburetor then fabricate a plug for each one. Finish with oil and air pressure in the cylinders. Do not use acid, vinegar, torch etc.

Great video. I haven’t tried it but I always thought pouring oil in the cylinders and then heating up the block to expand it might work. One I do always when parking a unit for the winter is to squirt a little oil down each cylinder and turning it over to spread the oil over the walks. When I do that I have NVA had one seize up on me. The one time I didn’t was on a motorcycle that sat for over a year while I was overseas. It seized up tighter than the hubs of hell when I got home.

I had a Olive 70 that was a old restore that I bought at a auction. The engine was stuck but I figured it wasn't to bad given the condition of the tractor. I emptied a can of "Liquid Wrench" in it and it sat for about a week. I put the tractor in the highest gear grabbed hold of the rear tire and rocked the tractor back an forth. The engine came right loose! I was amazed that it went so easy!

If the head is off find a smaller junk piston that fits the bore place a bottle Jack On it wrap a chain around the motor and apply psi works best with frame rails if not place 2x4 under the chain so it don’t ruin oil pans or parts

Makes sense on the olive oil. It is a weak acid and some can be up to 2%. The acid likely softened and ate at the rust enough that it got it free

I am working on a IH 504 diesel. We parked it in the barn for about 7-8 years and it froze up tight. Never seen a drop of rain. I soaked for about 3 months and no luck. A am currently rebuilding the motor. Even the cam lobes and pitted on the bottom from condensation. I guess it could of had a leaky head gasket and didn’t know. Lesson learned to start equipment at least couple times a year.

That D-12 is a pretty rare tractor! Is it an industrial unit or is the Persian Orange paint (that I love so much!) just baked so bad that it looks yellow? Either way, I loved the video (that I requested) on the D series! Thanks for doing it! My D-17 is coming along slowly but surely.
I do know several people that swear by olive oil. Even though I've never tried it, I've also seen it work first hand. I've also heard of using iodine but have no experience with it. The very best thing I've found, and what I use, is a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. I learned about it back in the 70s helping grandpa in the shop. It works 99.9% of the time. The only thing is that it will separate if left setting in a container. If you mix more than what you need, just shake it well before using it again. I also keep a squirt bottle of it for spraying on frozen nuts/bolts. Shake it well, spray the fastener, smack it with a hammer a couple of times, go have lunch (or a couple cold ones), come back and spin the fastener right off. It might take a couple tries, but it does work. In the rare case that it doesn't, the next option is the "blue nosed wrench".
Can't wait to see what happens with the iodine treatment, as well as the rest of this Lil Allis!
