Congratulations on the thousand followers! Another great video, it's always easier to learn about these things when you listen to someone who is so passionate about what they do.
Dude, your suggestions are so on point as I prepare to go out tomorrow to shoot a car meet. I'll probably use my RF70-200mm primarily. Do not have the RF85mm
Yeah I am supper happy with mine! The 15-35 2.8 is always also proving to be an amazing lens! Not in the same league as the 85mm but amazing compared to my old zooms.
great video! I'm not a car person. but love all your photos you've presented in this video. I've owned the 85 1.2 for about 4 months and used it daily exclusively with my childrens photos and it's amazing. I finally got over the size and weight of it recently. I'll have to get the 70-200/2.8 for their sports one day, will be some overlap, but it's a unique look for the rf85 1.2, althought I've been using my 85 1.2 for my son's taekwondo action shots and with the r6 it keeps up quite well. keep up the great videos! love them!
I don’t have either lens but IMO the 35 1.4 and 85mm are the only two you need for portraits. For track events though…that 70-200mm and even a 400mm are essential.
Yeah the 50mm is a great choice too. I just don't have one anymore as I was using the 85mm almost exclusively. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment.
Nice content bro... this is the 3rd video I saw since yesterday to go tight lense... 85mm, 70-200mm or 100mm and I am going in the opposite directions with my 18-35mm :P
Yep, I used my 85 1.8 all the time, then I got the Sigma 135 1.8 which I now use all the time, its a bit of a challenge sometimes, the distance you have to be away from the car is sometimes a challenge. I heard a rumour Nikon is making an 85 1.2. I`ll sell my soul and buy one, 85 is the better length.
Hi, You raised the issue of chromatic aberration. Can a good UV filter minimize it? I'm starting my adventure with car photography, I use a Sigma ef-m 30mm f1.4 lens which is the equivalent of ~50mm on full frame. The lens is incredibly sharp but the aberrations are very visible, sometimes difficult to remove in post-production. Is the only way to improve the quality by changing the glass?
In my experience UV filters do next to nothing, except protect the front filter. And unfortunately the only way to aviod it is avoid high contrast areas in your backgrounds. Most poeple won't notice CA though. So doing what yiu can in post to get rid of it might be all you need.
Great video, thank you! I'd never thought of using LR to create a panorama with an 85mm lens. When using LR to merge images, do you recommend the spherical, cylindrical or perspective projection option?
I find that the cylindrical option usually gives the best results. But remember you can also use corrections to sort out the perspective once the merge is done too.
28-70 is also on my list to get. A great lens for sure. But there is a big difference between f2, and 1.2. But it depends on what you are shooting, where and in what lighting conditions.
Hey buddy, has nobody told you size doesn't matter its what you do with it 🤣🤣 nah jokes aside that does look an amazing lens. Your images are always awesome. Thanks for this video matey 👍
I just ordered this lens as my first prime. It is interesting that you shoot a lot of panos to get width. When shooting a car at 1.2 - do you have to focus stack?
LOL yeah I did much the same thing when I got mine! love the 85! but I am starting to enjoy the wider angles too. just doesn't have that same aesthetic.
@@3twelves not a huge difference no, but it is noticeable. But its a law of diminished returns. You have to pay more and more for less and less improvements
@@OliverLundy I‘d like to see how to create the Panorama with the RF 85 at 1.2 to get such lovely bokeh, how many photos do you take? All from the same point? So many questions…
@Kai Westensee oh I see, the method is called a brenhizer, I will add it to the list of videos I have lined up. But by all means research the method for yourself. Its a great way to get this look.
It's strange, you complain that it is expensive for you, I bought this glass in Russia for $3,500 and a canon r 5 for $3,838. We consider this to be the normal price.
Congratulations on the thousand followers! Another great video, it's always easier to learn about these things when you listen to someone who is so passionate about what they do.
Thanks buddy! First step on the ladder, 4k total viewing hours is next. At 1.3kish at the moment. So got a long way to go.

Yep had it for a while it is amazing!!!
i use the 50 1.2 rf.. both are really nice and have a nice characteristic to them!
Yeah I would love to have them all. Will eventually have the 50 amd the 35
you are the only YT that uses this for product.. tq for sharing.
Thanks! I really love it! Easily my favourite pieces of gear.
This was my first RF lens and I have to say it's amazing!!! No regrets!

Thanks for the comment, i just love this lens. I need tio get my hands on a 70-200 too. That and a bunch of others too. lol
It’s our “go to” piece of glass too! The best of the best and breath takingly sharp which is why we don’t use it for portrait work.
It really is something special!
I don’t have either lens but IMO the 35 1.4 and 85mm are the only two you need for portraits. For track events though…that 70-200mm and even a 400mm are essential.
Yeah I have yet to do any track work. Something I am keen to try just haven't had the chance yet.
I think the 85mm and the 50mm is best for car photography in my opinion! Great video
Yeah the 50mm is a great choice too. I just don't have one anymore as I was using the 85mm almost exclusively. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment.
Nice video mate, the 85mm is my favourite lens for both car and street photography. When I shoot cars all I use is the 85mm and 35mm
Yeah I think the 35mm will be my next prime for sure. Had a few people tell me how much they love there's.
@@OliverLundy yeah the 35 is pretty good, quite a versatile lens
@@bazs2k567 yeah I have the 15-35 and find myself at the 35 end alot.
🔥🔥🔥 I just got this lens and can’t wait to shoot some cars thanks for confirming I picked the best lens
You won't be disappointed it's a beast!!!
dope vid! think you could do another with a 50mm 1.2? would love to see the differences -as the 50mm in nikon land is $700 less lol .... cheers!
I LOVE my 85. Such a great lens
Obviously I agree. It's my go to lens for most things.
@@OliverLundy absolutely. I can’t put mine down.
Great Video, for me it is the GF 110/2 which is roughly an 85 on 35mm.
Thanks Mark! Yeah medium format is something I would love to one day get into.

That's all good buddy, wide angle has its place and uses, I just almost end up defaulting back to the 85mm.

Yeah, working distance can be a real challenge in some environments, but I find that in most outdoor spaces, the 85 is a great option.
Good content thank you for that
Thanks for the comment!!
Anyone else's plastic on the 85 1.2 lens making clicking noises when you touch it? Mine does, it's super annoying. I miss the old metal lenses.
Not encountered that issue myself. But I know what you mean, the old school metal lenes had a different feel.

How’s the lens so far? I’m planning on buying it next week for my Canon r6.

Which other lenses are you using? I feel as though my next one will be the Sigma/Canon 50mm 1.4
