What a great lesson. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I bought a mandolin three weeks ago, been wanting to play since I was a kid. It's never too late. 🎂🎸
hello Alan! really appreciate you checking this out and it's great to hear about your very special mando - i hope you enjoy it tremendously! your friend, dale
Alan, do you play the bass guitar? Mandolin is the bass turned up side down. The chords are basically root note and third and then octave. Learning the bass will help your mandolin playing. Bass: E A D G from thick to thin strings. Mandolin: G D A E.
This is close to perfection. And I have no idea why so many people have posted less accurate and less detailed versions when this one already existed. So many miss that ace rhythm on the Dm, or the fact that the last riff of the bridge is different. Lovely job xx
I got a mandolin for Christmas. This is one of my favorite mandolin songs. Thanks for the vid. I almost got it! I have been playing guitar for 15+ years so that helps.
I have just bought a mandolin and this song is an old favourite from way back. This is my first song to learn on it. Thank you for the excellent tutorial, briliant.
Thank you for covering this on mandolin, Dale. A longtime subscriber to your channel, have learned a lot through your guidance over the years. You made this one a lot easier for us part time mando players. Another quality instruction session. Keep up the great work!
One of the few items my grandfather left to me was his Gibson mandolin from..a long time ago. Great monetary value but I wouldn't sell it for the life of me. This song explains well where I am in life now and he used to love Rock, hope to learn by his next birthday. Miss you, Eric.
hello Eric...thanks for sharing about your mando - very cool! You will get this worked up and i hope you enjoy playing it on your mando - i wish i could hear it! your friend, dale.
What a great lesson. You took your time and made it very easy to follow. After 50 years of guitar I bought myself an entry level mandolin and I'm having some fun! Thank's for the very nice clean video, Jack
The students are playing this tune for our music-store recital tomorrow, and our mandolin player's on the DL (soccer injury). I have just 24 hours to learn it -- and I don't really *play* mandolin. Thanks to this video, though, I was able to learn it and shed it in no time at all. Now I won't embarrass myself in front of our students and parents. Thanks for the great lesson.

Just started learning the mandolin. This is a great tutorial to get me going in the right direction. It truly is a fun song to start on. Thanks so much for you time and contribution. Heading towards "Battle of Evermore" next.

Great lesson, just what I was looking for. You quickly taught me all I needed to know, really really well! Thanks for doing this. Rick (United Kingdom)
Just got back to playing mandolin after years. Great to find you teaching it online. Been a fan of your guitar tuts for years. Well done, but of course.
Thanks for posting! A long time guitarist, I've recently gotten a mandolin wanting to expand my musical horizons. This song is very well written and really makes the mandolin sing. Love it...Thanks again.
I am a violinist but play mandolin out of interest and I find I always play in a classical violin style on mandolin. Your tutorial helped me to understand the more guitar-like and chord-based mandolin style :) Thank you!
I am a guitar player and just picked up the cheapest mandolin money can buy (Rogue RM100A). Found your video and thanks to your breakdown can now play along. Great job! By the way, if anyone is wanting to learn mandolin I highly recommend the one I ordered.
Oh my gosh I totally want to learn how to play this and I've never even played a stringed instrument - it's my favorite song ever - thanks for the inspiration!
Top class video, im playing the mandolin the last 9 months but am only playing traditional Irish tunes and songs, after seeing this I am so going to expand, going to spend the weekend learning this off, great stuff and keep them coming :)
Absolutely nailed this song. It'd be great to see the whole song mapped out in one go, and I'd love to see you explain the strum pattern. But this is great work. Thanks so much!
Awesome tutorial, I've been wanting a mandolin for ages and finally bit the bullet today. I wasn't expecting to play a passable version of 'Losing...' that quickly but there you go :-)
Very nice tutorial. You break it down great for even the beginners like me. This a favorite song of mine and along with all the Led Zeppelin songs, inspired me to try to learn how to play the mandolin. Hopefully, I will have a video coming soon about my mandolin project called "My Man-do-tar" . I've never done a TH-cam video. so I'm enlisting my kids to help me through it. Thanks for sharing. I just got my first mandolin today mate. I play guitar. I rate myself as an advanced beginner. On a good day :-) I have no music talent whatsoever so I really have to work hard at it, more than most it seems but I love it. Been playing for about 4 years. I think this lesson will be a great intro to a mandolin. I'm pumped! Thanks mate!
Excellent Mando tutorial - many thanks. I've been at this on and off for a month or two. Tonight it worked. Chords still very rough, but Ive got the sequences - thank you so much
thank you for taking the time to do this. I was playing the wrong inversions and it was making getting in and out of the licks difficult.... and the I saw this! thank you thank you

I actually did buy an mandolin and have a crack at it... it seemed impossible at first with my fat fingers.. it's getting easier 🤔.. I wonder if I could find a mandolin with a wider neck 🤔
Someone told me recently that "losing one's religion" is a Southern expression meaning to run out of patience. This certainly alters the way I interpret the lyrics to the song.
Well sir I like that interpretation and agree. As a Southerner , I often understood it to mean that when a person got so upset that he sorta involuntarily used a curse word for emphasis. It takes focus to be kind and patient and suffer fools all at once . I'm not so good at it anymore .
