    Incredibly good tutorial. I've watched it several times. I'm a 75-year-old woman and it's a possibility that I'll need to be changing the belt myself. Thank you so much for your explicit instructions.

    Hey Brad,
    Just want to say thanks for that very informative video. You saved me a minimum of at least $250 by me doing it myself. Using the hook tool was a game changer. I had to go out and purchase it. Hook and pick set of 7 was $10 at Harbor Freight.
    On another note.

      I am halfway through doing this (I have belt removed) on a LT180 and there was one additional spring, for the mower deck lift bracket (the flat piece that goes vertically welded to the round bar) that I had to take off also. So that is 3 springs I had to pull, IIRC. Bracket is shown at 12:15 .

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check your reverse pedal to make sure it is traveling correctly. Sometimes bushings will wear or the pedals will come loose but without seeing it, that is hard to diagnose.

  • @franklinstahl3711

    I changed the belt and put it all back together. Started the mower up and THOUGH BELT MOVED THE MOWER WOULD NOT. The transmission lever rod was in the right position. If the belt is one inch too long, and I think it may be, is there anyway to tighten to adjust for this?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no adjustments as it is tensioned by a spring. If your not using a John Deere belt? That is your problem. If you are using a John Deere belt? You did something wrong or purchased the incorrect belt.

    Brad, how can I do this if I don't have the ability to lift the lawn tractor up like you have it here? I'm 70 yrs. old and I have tools, but can it be done somehow without tilting it up almost vertical like you have it? Can I do it from underneath, lying on my back? I have two jack stands.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fabulous video! Do you have a video of how you hung the tractor up?

  • @MrFurious176
    @MrFurious176 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I didn't realize you could stand the tractor up like that. For some reason, it seems like every year either the deck belt or the drive belt goes in my LT133. I've tried several different brand every time including the John Deere belts and they just don't last. I have back problems and getting that dang black spring on and off is really painful when I do if from laying on the ground under the tractor. This method looks easier to me.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m all about safety but the chain hoist I have been using for 20 years and it has been a great tool. You just need to be aware and safe when using it.

    • @MrFurious176

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines I replaced the belt but unfortunately it just immediately burned up again. Everything moves except the pulley above the transmission. It doesn't matter whether it's reverse, neutral or forward, the pulley in the back won't budge more than 1/4 inch and stops completely. The wheels will turn forwards and back if I move them manually and I can hear the gears moving in the case, but the pulley doesn't budge. I'm not finding much information since the tractor is so old and the local service shops won't work on anything unless it was purchased from them. Any thoughts?

      @MrFurious176 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Yes, I can push the tractor. I had to push it back to my shed. I have it up on jack stands right now and when I press the brakes it stops the wheels and when I let go I can move them again. I was in the middle of mowing with it when it just stopped moving forward and burned the belt. Not sure about the gear driven or hydrostatic. How do you determine that?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
