I don't know why, but I really like watching these Boston Blackie movies. I have seen several, as well as watching the Boston Blackie tv show, and the tv show can not hold a candle to the movies. The scripts are decent, I just don't care for the actors.
Half are relatively good and half could be avoided. This one is in the latter category. The first 15 minutes are excruciating. Too bad because MorrIs was a fine actor. Back then even a cab driver listened to good music.
Too bad! I usually enjoy the Boston Blackie series however...#BlackFace is where I draw the line and give this episode an #F! It is #Distasteful and #Humiliating!
While I was surprised by the blackface in another Boston Blackie movie, NOT watching movies because they no longer display the values of today's audiences will knock out A LOT of movies from the 30s through the 50s. BTW, I finally read Uncle Tom's Cabin a year or so ago. I found Ms Beecher Stowe's ideas about the mental attitudes of black people bordering on offensive.
FREE Country. U CHOSE to not watch it which, in itself, is strange since U said it was 'terrible' yet U CHOSE not to view it? The two don't add - up. Don't wash. 2 + 2 = 3?
It is both racist & badly written generally. Two women died while Boston Blackie was goofing around. He could have stopped the person @ the beginning of the movie. At the end of the movie he plays the wise hero after letting two women be killed. Actors should always insist on the right of script approval. This movie could have ended Chester Morris' career.

Usually, he got into trouble because he was helping people. That was why I blamed the writing. When they make a bunch of movies based on a character one them is bound be a lazy, exploitation effort. They also did not try hard to solve the problem. The movie felt different, I thought George E Stone was not playing 'The Runt'.
I had been less than complete in my comment. At the beginning Blackie was warned by his friend that the perp had strangled a nurse; that he was an unstable individual that had escaped. When the perp showed up at his room in the middle of the night without invitation, he decided to 'help' the individual, turn his back to him, and was going to call someone to help him. Blackie was an ex-con & would know not to turn his back to the perp. That is bad writing. It was put into the movie to create the situation. It could have been written a different way. Regarding the racist scene, it wasn't just the black face, but it was the highly exaggerated behavior that was thoughtless. The middle of the movie did not have Boston Blackie staying focused solving the problem, but he allowed himself to get sidetracked on nonsense. I don't know why some people are focused on being 'woke'. It maybe better to be awake than half-asleep, like the writer probably was.

Not in 1945. I admit the blackface scene is inexcusable, but there had to be victims or the movie 🎥 would have ended in 20 minutes.
