Version 2, also called XL, the one you can see on the video, has separate control knobs for each channel, and comes with a footswitch. Otherwise they are similar afaik. If you don't care much about switching too often between channels, version 1 is totally fine as it can come cheaper than v2 when used or new.

    I just bought a Zombie II XL and an Orange cab. I absolutely LOVE it. So much sound. 2 things I upgraded though, was a 1 band EQ pedal and an EQD Plumes boost to add a slight amount of mid-gain. I just bought one of these monsters yesterday and am here to share a bit of a hack and review. This is my signal path: Guitar-tuner-mini wah-Overdrive-(input of amp)-send out to EQ pedal-Noise Suppressor-reverb-delay-(dly out) to Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 input-SMPS700 out to 2x12 cab. With this rig setup I have a tube preamp running through two sources of post EQ and have 700 solid state watts of power. I cut the base with the EQ pedal and slightly boost the mids, then I can sculpt further using the PowerStage eq. This thing rips with this configuration.

      Probably impossible, Joyo has much smaller headroom, hence much wider sound of Mesa both in low and high end. Plus, adding that preamp only put Joyo in disadvantage, because of aforementioned headroom. I am 100% certain Joyo can sound much closer to rectifier than seen in this vid. Less gain, no preamp boost, some pre EQ for that "V" shape of sound.

    The zombie was more mid focused, and fuzzy, especially in the palm mutes. They're both pretty similar sounding, but there's certainly more bottom end and top end on the real deal. For 1/10th the price though it's certainly better than it has a right to be.

  • @Tehstroyer
    @Tehstroyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great demo and it sounds nice if I ever am in the mood for a more American sound, but I kinda can't believe they went with separate channel controls instead of a full-sized EQ section. Sounded like a no-brainer when I first saw they had an expanded version with two rows of controls.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, full eq would be nice, but I think they still did a pretty great job of capturing the essence of a dual rec and putting it in a lunchbox head.

    • @Tehstroyer
      @Tehstroyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TaylorDanley Oh, they absolutely did. No questions here.
      I understand it being that way on V1. It's just it feels like they want us to buy multiple amps for a larger sonic palette and doing one sound with more control as an expansion fits more to me with that idea than putting emphasis on it being more versatile, with fully separate channels.
      But then again, I don't make them so that might just be me assuming shit based on my preferences.

    The Zombie definitely has less low end and more mid-range. A couple of those clips at the end have it almost sounding like an HM-2 pedal. Honestly, for the price, it seems like a phenomenal piece of gear. If you're looking for a 1-to-1 reproduction of the Dual Rec tone, then no, but for less than $200 this gets you in the ballpark and sounds great. Definitely a piece of gear I'll consider picking up in the future.

      Nowadays I would expect better performance from small amps than bigger, older ones,just because of the focus the company must put on that single sound. Also, the tiny terror does the lunchbox amp thing much better and sounds spot on and recently yamaha released the second iteration of their lunchbox amp. It sounded really good on all the amp types and was packed with features. A really mature product
