I love the song and performance. Easily one of my favorites ever. It's clever and very well-executed. The problem is that it probably came off as too dirty and lusty for most people. Also, the camera work during the bridge was too frenetic and kept cutting back and forth between Olly and the dancers too quickly. Something you might see in a music video or high speed movie, but not during a live performance. It's definitely a niche entry but by no means a bad one. In fact, a really good entry!
It's simple....bad lyrics, bad costumes and most importantly imo Olly isn't as cute as he thinks he is. All those duck face poses just make him look like he's trying to be convince us he's gorgeous, but he's just an average guy. Plus he didn't jump in the water so he went to the lake just to take his shirt off and show off what I believe are ab implants. He wasn't super fit any where else. I don't think he deserved last in the fan vote though.
I mean the answer for this really is not 18 minutes long. The performance was creepy, song was forgettable, costumes were bad and the whole package came across as a bit amateurish. On the night the performance was my least favorite and I was not suprised at all that it got a well deserved 0 points. Of course some people like it for the exact reasons some might dislike it but clearly the mass audience wasn't into it.
It's SO easy to deliberate of "What went wrong" ? As we came 18th. There was absolutely nothing wrong with either the music video for this "Pop" song or his vocals and performances on the final night of the Eurovision. After all the who concept was brilliant especially the dancers and their core strength. However I do question the theme of a dirty changing room with boxers and limiting viewing to many within the arena. Would we be dissecting his performances if he won or came higher in the competition.....of course we wouldn't!
I disagree, the song was average, not particularly good, but average, which is bad in Eurovision. I work with the public and I haven't heard anything about the song other than, it gets stuck in your head in an annoying way. I am a gen z gay, and even to me, it comes across as softcore p0rn. If it made it any higher, there would have been outrage at an international level.
@fabulously695 I totally disagree, the song was good and very catchy. As for his vocals I must be absolutely tone deaf, maybe I should be working within the music industry, but im not tone deaf. Ollys vocals were on point during the final. I just don't know where this crap comes from, stating his "vocals let him down" etc. I've met Olly and believe me he can sing live brilliantly, unlike some artists I can mention who use "Autotune" for their live preformances and especially within the recording studio .
@benjamintic3653 isn't it SO easy to rubbish Ollys performance after the disappointing voting results. I often wonder woukd your criticism be evident if he had won or came a respectful top 10......I think so !
@@35geordielad I watched it live, as soon as he was 10 seconds or so in, I had made up my mind. The jury or public vote doesn’t influence my thinking, there were a couple of other songs that shouldn’t have been so high on the list, like France and Israel, their performances were just as lacklustre as the U.K. but we need to remember that Eurovision is hugely influenced by politics and both France and Israel always have, and always will have a better standing with the public. it seems like your comment replies are aimed at the wrong person, but seeing as you replied to me, I’ll address it, “autotune” isn’t what you think it is. It is industry norm in 2024 that all artists will use some form of pitch corrector, so much so that when artists do not use any kind of vocal corrector, it sounds wrong to our ears now. Olly, Nemo, baby lasangna, Bambie thug, Eden golan etc all use autotune. That is how music works today.
Despite being different, it was still quite generic... Just pushing towards being as gay/queer as possible isn't it The technicalities of the staging was pretty cool, and Olly Alexander is very talented - but the song is a bit boring and I know a lot of my friends felt uncomfortable with all the humping and overly sexual appearance (not 'cause it was gay - just 'cause it was so overly sexual up in your face)
@@duderRechthat I love how people think Tour l'univers did well - it was pretty low on the public vote. Voila you could easily sing the chorus bit even if you aren't french. Salvador still baffles me to this day as to why it did so well I will give you that exception, personally I hate very second of that song.
There were many factors that led to the UK getting 0 points in the Televote, even though it was undeserved. First, the song itself was too middle of the road to garner any interest, which was a disappointment as he has done better songs. Second, the live performance was a mess on the night. His vocals was not perfect, the camera work was too chaotic, and the staging was too raunchy. Also, the televote was EXTREMELY lopsided, so much so, that the top 5 received 66% of the total amount of points available, and the remaining 20 countries had to fight over the scraps. Finally, you have to talk about all the drama behind the scenes, and outside of the contest that completely overshadowed the contest itself. All of these factors just made UK lost in everything, and forgotten to the general public. Had he been the host entry last year, and toned down the homo-eroticism a bit, he probably would have done much better. Well, at least better than Mae Miller. Oh, and people were comparing the locker room box to the shower scene from Saw. They should have just used a dance club, or a space ship, or something.
I dont know why is that even a question. Number 1: extremely oversexualized performance, in the worst possible way. Number 2: His voice was so mediocre, to say at least. Such an average, and not at all powerfull voice. Number 3: The whole song is actually kinda generic and kinda boring. As a conlusion, not sure he deserved zero points from public, but it wasn't actually far from that. Simple as that. Sorry Olly and UK. Better luck next year
Boring generic song, bad lyrics, even worse vocals, and while the staging looked phenomenal, it did nothing to keep viewers attention, unlike Sweden this year or Greece 2021, where you were curious about what's happening next. And it didn't elevate it in any form, so people didn't stay focused and grabbed their cellphones or spoke to people they were watching Eurovision with. Yes, 0 points are fully deserved, worst song and worst vocals in the Grand Final, but tone deaf juries of course put him up into 18th place. And I didn't even know him before Eurovision, so maybe his name recognition wasn't large enough to gain him any points.

Very simple. As my bf says. This was trying to hard to be shockingly gay. It was too cringy
Yes, queerbait alert
You need to be able to sing live. And on the night, Olly couldn't. It was also as visually appealing as a run over cat.

The song was just good and his vocals were preety bad in the live show. Not to mention the staging while preety good was a bit messy at some points

I like the song and I liked the performance, but I didn't think they went together too well.
Songs that do well you can sing along to - you have no chance singing along to that mess
Let me hear you sing along to amar pelos dois by Salvador Sobral or Voilà by Barbara Pravi, Tout l'univers by Gjon's Tears etc.

Bad vocals, bad staging, too sexual, basic song
It wasn’t the worst, but there were other performances that were better

loved the performance but the song was not strong enough ,zero points was not deserved
