They also have a version made with their home town symphonic orchestra that is playing a lot more into that opera aspect. And they wear Céline Dion's dress for it.
I'm so glad Nemo won; not just because they ABSOLUTELY deserve it, but also because this will now open Eurovision up to more daring and experimental songs in the future. Yes!
What I found really impressive about their performance, is that they weren't alone on Stage. There was a Cameraman and two People in Blacksuits helping with various movements of the Disc. And you can see none of those 3 no matter which Camera or Camera angle is being used. And it's a LIVE-Show. D: It's so impressive as I don't know how one would coordinate these people. So many people saying they don’t deserve the win. But WHY? That song is one of the most if not the most artistic song Eurovision has given us in the last 10 years.
the esc community became very toxic over the last few years unfortunately. its mostly croatian fans who spread their hate all over cause they cant cope with their second place.
French fans are sore losers too. I am in France, and the hatred towards Nemo is insane, just because of the pink outfit and, of course, Slimane's defeat.
Because people love to put standards in everything and even though that art and creativity has no standards, they can not accept it or appreciate it. Of course here also homophobia is included by many haters, so that are the reasons that Nemo receive such a hate that actually do not deserve at all 🤷🤷🤷 Nemo is amazing!
I'm sad so many people dismis this song because of Nemo's identity. It's truly one of the most musically interesting songs I've seen on eurovision. I didn't watch the second semi and was shocked on the finals night because it was such a clear winner to me. Great song.
The song and performance are both amazing and, as a nonbinary person myself, I'm really proud of them for being the first enby to win Eurovision. Incidentally, I never knew that Nemo means no one. That really puts an interesting spin on Jules Verne's Captain Nemo.
I have been utterly obsessed with Nemo's The Code performance, it's such a beautiful piece of artwork that I keep finding more and more layers and patterns the more I dig into it. The performance itself is this incredible piece of story telling to me. Nemo previously had a song This Body which opens with "If this body was a house, I'd burn it down" and was about their struggles with feeling uncomfortable and mis-identified with their body. This performance almost embraces their body as just a component, not the defining feature, of who they are. The performance is also such a physically demanding piece that I can't help but feel that Nemo is more comfortable in their body than most, they have this mastery over it. The spinner is also this symbol of fluidity. Nemo has a spinner on a necklace they're wearing during the performance too and mentioned how they love the spinner because of how it needs to be fluid to be stable. As the performance goes on the more we watch as Nemo tells us their story through the spinner! It begins as this mountain to be climbed and they struggle. Slowly slowly they begin climbing it faster and more skillfully. There are stumbles along the way, and as an audience member I feel their emotions through it all. I feel afraid for them that they might fall and get hurt, I feel the joy and fun they have as they ride it. More fluidity is included as the performance goes on and the more Nemo masters this crazy ride of theirs. They finish beautifully balanced atop the spinner. An absolute masterpiece and what I've gushed about here isn't even the half of how this has tickled my mind - truly art!
There's no surprise Nemo knows how to sing opera: Before they became a rapper and starting at the age of 9, they performed in children's operas and in a leading role in a musical called "ich war noch niemals in New York", a musical btw. based on Udo Jürgens songs. Udo Jürgens was a Deutsche Schlager performer and ESC winner back in the 60-ies (for Austria). Nemo's story has many facettes.

Nemo's breaths as they ascended the disc at the beginning are supposed to be there, the whole section represents the uphill struggle and we pant as we are struggling up hills. The breaths are on the studio recording too.
Thank you for your very interesting and careful review, it‘s a joy to listen to someone who can appreciate and value Nemo‘s performance from a professional point of view 🩷🙌🏼! May I add that, for me, the chromatic scale at the beginning is inspired by the aria „L‘amour est un oiseau rebelle“ from Bizet‘s opera Carmen. Carmen is a bohemian and an outsider herself, which would suit the meaning of the song‘s lyrics very well.
I think it's a shame that so many people criticize and judge Nemo so often just because of his non-binary nature and his outfit, instead of seeing the entire work of art in this performance, which includes Nemo's personality, his personal story in his life. As a 68-year-old woman, I have great respect for Nemo to have such a great deal of musical ability, a great voice and to carry so much warmth and love within.

When hearing the song for a first time, I was amazed by their flawless mixing of different singing styles and the drum part. When witnessing them during live Eurovision I was shocked by combining all those singing techniques with that choreography. I always keep an ear in the pipeline of Eurovision whenever it comes around. I tend to always leave with a song or two for the library to enjoy after. This year was an exceptionally good haul, this song topping my list.
The breath got my attention with this song LOL I love Joost’s song, but I’d rather accept Nemo winning than being toxic abt it. (Joost’s disqualification was unfair, but I’d rather not be toxic to the winners.)
Fun fact, "nemo" does indeed mean "nobody" in Latin, but in Oromo it actually means "the man", so the word can be taken as either an insult or a compliment. now I suppose the word "man" wouldn't really fit for a non-binary person, but it might not even refer to gender, since things are often loosely translated to understand the context better, like the word "bro" doesn't necessarily refer to gender or blood relatives.
Yes i am happy that Nemo won the eurovision this year because that song is so difficult to sing with all that movement on the stage, he can still sang those high notes. I am from switzerland and i have heared that he started as a opera singer since 9 years old but he was more popular as a rapper here. He won 5 swiss music awards in his career and it is the 3rd win already for Switzerland in eurovision song contest. Lyss Asia(Refrain) 1956 winner and Celine Dion (Ne partez pas sans moi) in 1988 and this Nemo (The code) 2024.
Thank you so much for this reaction. You are very knowledgeable. Listening to you was like a mini lecture. I learned things i didn't know and you did absolute justice to this multi-layered song. Hugs.
I love that observation of how the post-bridge sounds very Bond-like! I never pieced that together until now but I could ABSOLUTELY hear that upwards line and cadence/instrumentation during the "oh"s in a Bond film!
Armenia was my winner. So much fun. Ladaniva. heard some more of her and she has an amazing voice. Also, spontaneously started singing in flawless Italian during an interview....
Thank you for explaining WHY it was good. Personally it was not my favorite, but as my partner always says to me "the judges judge on technique and other things we normal people don't really notice" i really wish as a part of the show we saw the judges reasons so we could learn something about the music, because i love to learn
The chromatic part at the beginning is inspired by the Habanera from another opera called Carmen by George Bizet. Nemo also noticably quotes the same baseline in this song.
Nemo cypher 2016! Watch out! There is a 16 years young Nemo rapping his own songs. It’s in swiss German. But if you like rap, I think you will like this. 🫶🏻🇨🇭🫶🏻

@@markusstudeli2997 saw that too and they were just a kid back then; so cute and good
Your analysis was such a delight to watch ❤ From the opera references into their personal life, I enjoyed it soo much
Thank you so much!
He is fantastic ! Greetings from Finland.
Nemo is they/there. Nemo is non binary. But your right. But sometimes, i make this mistake too and say he😅
I always keep an ear in the pipeline of Eurovision whenever it comes around. I tend to always leave with a song or two for the library to enjoy after. This year was an exceptionally good haul, this song topping my list.
This is such a great, informational breakdown!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nemo’s breath control is out of this world.
The breath got my attention with this song LOL
I love Joost’s song, but I’d rather accept Nemo winning than being toxic abt it. (Joost’s disqualification was unfair, but I’d rather not be toxic to the winners.)
Fun fact, "nemo" does indeed mean "nobody" in Latin, but in Oromo it actually means "the man", so the word can be taken as either an insult or a compliment. now I suppose the word "man" wouldn't really fit for a non-binary person, but it might not even refer to gender, since things are often loosely translated to understand the context better, like the word "bro" doesn't necessarily refer to gender or blood relatives.
i'm AFAB and a singer and non binary myself. I so love this song. " between the Oh's and ones." the lyrics is also very good.
Hugs.
Glad it was helpful!
That would be really cool!
OMG the way you got lost in emotions at the end... I felt that same ... interestingly I also feel like that when listening to some good trance :))
The chromatic part at the beginning is inspired by the Habanera from another opera called Carmen by George Bizet. Nemo also noticably quotes the same baseline in this song.
This is the exact reaction i had when i first listened to it
It's so heartbreaking 🥰and emotional 🥲to listening to you 🙆 and Nemo 🐟. Great cinema!🏟
Please react to bambie thug. Such an amazing performance vocally and visually
You should react to either Norway or Croatia’s entries as well
I just realized the zeros and ones line was related to Nemo being non-binary. Clever
Oh my god, it's been in the name this whole time-
Please react to some more of this years Eurovision (in particular Ireland)
Before the ESC, I was describing this to other people as Bruno Mars singing a James Bond theme that's on steroids.
Nemo cypher 2016! Watch out! There is a 16 years young Nemo rapping his own songs. It’s in swiss German. But if you like rap, I think you will like this. 🫶🏻🇨🇭🫶🏻
Oh Lady, indeed you feel the Mojo. Kudos!
Anyone else getting James Bond orchestral vibes towards the end?
Hi, I was wondering if you could react to Baby Lasagna from Croatia, he came second in the final ranking. I know that, feelings are high after Eurovision, but I think is so awesome that after what happend in the national of Dora, (the national final where the winner gets to represent the country), he came so close to win.
If you can, please react to the final of Eurovision.
Baby Lasagna Rim Tim Tagi Dim
Nemo is such a worthy winner.
Whats there to analyze?😅
In the beginning, his chromatic scale reminds me of Bizet "La Habanera"
beth i love your reacts !
Sparks vibes there! I like it!
At the beginning there is also a remembrance of Bizet’s opera Carmen (l’amour est enfant de bohème) in the bass and the chromatic descent…
I think Nemo found inspiration for the magical spin on the disc at the end from the gold medal winning performance of
British ice skater John Curry at the 1976 Winter Olympics ..... at 4.47 below .......

Buenisima presentación, ojalá puedas reaccionar a Ucrania. Saludos desde chile
If you're a vocal coach, I recommend you to see the 4th place of Eurovision Slimane and his song mon amour.
