As a child I wanted to be a Concert Pianist, I had a father just like David, very emotionally abusive, critical of me and narcissistic. It seemed he was always in a competition with me, very jeolous. Instead of destroying me, he destroyed my ability and talent in Music. Been a real mystery to be honest, seems with David his father destoryed his sanity. Very sad.
I wish I knew David and his wonderful wife Gillian in person. I'm so happy they found each other in life. She's exactly what he needed to keep his musical side going and he's exactly what she needed to fulfill her heart. God Bless both of them 🙏🙌👏💜
What a loving man. The movie Shine is still one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. According to David himself Geoffrey rush did a fair portraite of him which is not the case in other Self-portraiting movies
I watched the film "Shine" again today, which is in my dvd collection. What a lovely man and his wife is incredible. What a talent he is and such a loving soul. I found this because I wanted to know how he is doing now and Im glad that he still plays and is happy.
If not for shine, I’m not sure when I would have found Rachmaninov but I don’t want to imagine life without it now. I owe this man more than I could ever ever express. Bravo David! BRAVO!!!

This is lovely. David was awarded the Order of Australia at the start of 2021. His story is inspiring and I love the way Gillian used her astrological skills to accept David's proposal.

He stopped smoking years ago by order of his wife ..... which was probably just as well given that he "downed" 60 or so a day. Was in the stars, I suppose .... if you ask (now it is asked) his wife.

He is 75 and his wife, Gillian, died last year at the age of 90.
