    Passion is such an underrated show. Loving You is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It’s been reported that Sondheim was in love fir the first time in his life while writing the show, and the score reflects that. And Donna Murphy was incredible in that role

    Wow, this deserves more attention for Donna Murphy's acting alone. Incredibly moving. "And should you die tomorrow, one more thing I see: your love will live in me..."

    Damn, Anthony Hopkins gave away basically the entire plot right off the bat

    Seeing this for the first time in London in 1996 I was shattered. From the opening bars involuntary tears flowed and now 25 years later, I still weep. Passion is astonishing. Many did not appreciate the nature of the piece and could not viscerally experience it. It leaves me breathless. Mr Sondheim has over the years written remarkable pieces and for me is the most accomplished and compelling writer of musical theatre of my 50 plus years.

    Comparing apples to oranges. Beauty and the Beast is a fun, easy show. Passion is an eloquent work or art. Come back in another decade and revisit it.

      And ironically Passion is a gender reversed Beauty and the Beast

    Astounding! Not every Tony performance can pack the punch emotionally - this one is up there on the tier.

    "They hear drums... we hear music." This is the mantra of two people who stand miles above the mass of mediocre humanity, who have had the fortune to find each other in a fulfillment.

      @beaellie9766 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I saw this on Bwy and that mantra is what I took away from the night. Add to it, "...why is love so easy to give and hard to receive?" and I was an emotional mess, so much for a recently "out" gay kid in the early 90s to handle.

      Jandel Nico Plurad same here! I discovered this during my senior year couple months back before I graduated in May and honestly I love it, a beautiful piece by Sondheim.

    I love this production! Why are some people freaked about the opening scene? oh please, get over it!
    Still, one of my favorite musicals, and performances from the Tony's. It's 2016!

    How yng Marin Mazzi looks... I think this my favourite Sondheim work and there is a lot of competition... they are all wonderful in it. I was in NYC when it opened but the reviews were terrible so I didn't go. I went later in London and loved it.

    So many comments talking about needing to "get over the nudity," and so few comments to that effect. Was there a purge along the way? Did some comments get lost as YT (and Google once it was purchased) kept revising systems?

    Um did they shoot some of the scenes beforehand? Cause doing all those costume changes live would be impossible!

  • @AlineMayagoitia

    Does anyone know how they recorded this performance??

    • @CaseyBlizzard
      @CaseyBlizzard 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The first two songs were prerecorded. The live portion begins at 3:08. It was somewhat common in the 80s and 90s for a show's Tony performance to be a mixture of footage pre-recorded at the show's respective theatre, as well as a live portion.

      Kenneth Desmond Mosley Actually it was highly acclaimed by critics, it was the audience who generally hated it, though.

      When I saw it on Bwy, two men in the row behind us were giggly and wolf whistling. Ushers had to come and escort them out. Classless and immature buffoons. Their wives remained and loved their evening.

    I found Fosca tough to like. Her desires were selfish. Sondheim is a dream like always.

    • @beaellie9766

      Totally agree. She had so many walls and defenses built, because of her "differences". They found a kindred spirit/soul between the two of them and it was heartbreaking at the end.

    One of the most beautifully sung shows I have ever heard. I did not think the nude scene in the opening was necessary. It was such a distraction.

    • @jandelnico1310

      It is necessary.

    • @richardmayora6974

      Jandel Nico Plurad Did you actually see the show? Did you sit in the audience and feel their palpable discomfort? Did you know that it has been filmed without the nudity, proving that the nudity added nothing? Have you seen the production with Audra McDonald? Where she kept her clothes on?

    so am I the only one thinking that somewhere along the lines someone said we need to make this sound like Phantom of the Opera somehow, because that's what I'm feeling from the vocals
