Big Bear Eagles ~ INTRUDER ALERT!! Fierce Jackie WING SLAPS Intruder OFF Nest! SLOMO! 3.2.20

- What an unsettling day for Jackie & Shadow! Jackie is on the nest when she sees something and takes off. She returns to the nest and an unidentified adult eagle follows her and lands on the high perch! She gives off warning vocals and goes to incubate the eggs. She continues to give off warning vocals as the intruder drops down closer to the nest after being on the branch for 17 minutes! As the intruder tries to enter the nest, Jackie gets up and wing slaps the intruder chasing him from the nest. The intruder returns right away and Jackie continues to send out warning vocals. The intruder departs on his own to the right.
About an hour later, Jackie takes off from the nest and Shadow's vocals are heard as he flies into the nest alerting loudly. He takes off and Jackie returns to incubate the non viable eggs. More intruder action after this - stay tuned for another video to continue the saga! Thank you for watching!

My heart goes out to Jakki. She is one tough 🦅 mama!! When I clicked on the cam this morning, it was snowing, her beak was covered in snow, and she just looked so miserable 😩 in the nest, and we know, her precious eggs are not viable. When will she stop incubating? She will probably continue for awhile.......not giving up. So sad this year at BB. Our ♥️♥️ ache for Jakki and Shadow 😥

Summer Snow The eggs were supposed to hatch around February 14th (35-39 days incubation time). You can check multiple reports from US Forest Service (who monitor the nest) and many news media outlets. There were several reasons given, but at this point, does not look probable.

Wow....that intruder was not giving up! First time I have seen an intruder come one on one with Mom in the nest tree like that. She winged slapped that intruder with lots of force. Jackie got him good! lol Mom wanted a piece of that intruder, who by the way, was beautiful! Can't wait for part 2 of your video. Thank you Lady Hawk...I wish Mom and Shadow would give up on the eggs. I was hoping for a re-clutch in April:) Intruder sounded like a male!

Don’t mess with Jackie! It’s like a stranger entering your home without invitation and then they start moving things around & raiding your pantry all while you are trying to care for & protect your little ones.
If that happened I would pump the intruder full of lead bullets. No one messes with my family.

@Golden Runway All the circumstances have to be perfect, but there's a chance that, when eggs don't hatch, the female may be able to re-lay. It's happened, but I'm not sure how often. Fingers crossed!

It was sad watching the eggs be destroyed. They kept coming back to the best for a two weeks so I kept hoping there would be a second attempt. I really enjoyed watching the couple this year.

I saw this live this morning and believe me it was exciting. Intruder followed Jackie to the nest. Wonder if it was he/she. It seemed to know the nest. Lol but Jackie kicked the intruder to the curb! 😁 A cold wing slap! Karate move. You go Jackie! Just defending her eggy’s. Intruder stressed her out! Then comes Shadow. Her Prince Charming to the rescue. Then the Chase begun. Thankful that no one got hurt. But intruder had to stop by 1 more time 😁. This is way better than TV. 💯 PC. Thank you Lady Hawk. Amazing vid! One that I will cherish F/Ever. ❤️
Beautiful nest and view of lake in the background. I'm surprised to see the adults leave those eggs unattended. I wasn't sure how long they were gone but of course that makes them vulnerable to predators and the elements. Well done enjoyed watching.

Are these the same two eggs from the current livestream? Im so confused. The website says the nest has been in active use since 2013. Does this mean by the same two birds (Jackie and Shadow)? When did they lays their eggs? Are these two different pairs of eggs? How many times do these birds have eggs? So much I need to know...
First, I don’t know Jackie’s entire history at this nest. Does Lady Hawk or anyone know if she laid eggs in the past that did not hatch? I saw all events last year and aware of previous year, but could this be her first season having eggs fail ? Does anyone know ? // Instinct is strong, keeping her on the nest. This Eagle is determined.... showing us all the majesty of the bald eagle. TY again Lady Hawk. Great video!
I love that you have the cameras when I lived in California I got to participate in one of the big bear eagle counts I can’t remember what year but it was before 1991 when we moved home with my husband got out of the military

This looks like Sapphire Point, Summit County, Colorado! Either that eagle or its kin hovered over me and some colleagues during a memorial off the beaten path and was obviously taking a great look!

I saw this all love. I thought it was weird for the intruder to sit that far off on that branch. They usually sit way closer to the nest. 10:55:49 of the live cam shows all three eagles. Lady Hawk I wanted to send to you to use as a thumbnail! I wonder why it took Jackie so long to snap?
