@Maynard Runkle not really... Maybe still the elite boys would beat her by a big margin... but the time she's running would be very good times for boys her own age... she just came in second cross-country counting 1000 boys... And beat out a couple of excellent boy runners... her times are getting to where she's pretty much going to have a strong time boy or girl at a lot of meets...
@Maynard Runkle Hell no. I ran the two mile once in track (I was a miler) and ran a 10:30. This girl's unbelievable. She ran at the pace of my friend, and he placed in state.
Here we are four years later. KT and Kelsey Chmiel are teammates on the NC State Wolfpack and also best friends. Last week they finished 1-2 in the ACC cross championship, crushing the field. Last year Kelsey was the ACC champ. A couple of weeks ago they killed the competition at Nuttycombe finishing 1-2 Kate/ Kelsey. What an amazing partnership. Can't wait for the NCAA regionals and finals at the end of this month. GO WOLFPACK!!!
I've watched this about eight times and i'm excited everytime. I've never really been a fan of distance running but this young lady is something special and I can see her breaking her own records. Good luck Katelyn...Go fast!!!
Every University w/ a track course will be offering this girl a full ride .. can't wait to see he in her first Olympics .. should be soon the way she's going .. Wow :)
Runs strategically like Steve Prefontaine did. Sets her lap times ahead of the race and knows what she is capable of running. If she is "allowed" to run her own race, she will be dominating once she is on the world stage. Will be interesting to see how she fares once she is racing against the worlds best. No one in high school is a real challenge for her.
Watch Steve Prefontaine in the 1972 Olympics. In that race, he got boxed in and WAS NOT ALLOWED to run the race as he had planned. In a field of relative equals, it will be interesting to see how strategically Katelyn runs when she is not instantly way out in front and able to run pretty much any speed she chooses.
Maynard Runkle he answered you. If you watch the start, you'll notice she didn't take off and that the tall girl who briefly led didn't shift in, allowing Katelyn to pass her. If she competes at a better level then she won't be able to run like that. She'll get boxed in as four or five girls try to lead and she's stuck inside. But she'll probably be aware of that and adjust. I doubt it'll be an issue.
i dont think she gives a shit. breaking national records in highschool, then going to college (if she does) probably wouldnt mean anything to her. i just wish she was larger (taller) to break serious records. the same people now, will be challanging her in college. if it aint happening now, nothing going to change. she is just gonna deal with standing records.
I know she works hard, I'm not trying to take anything away from her or her work ethic, but DNA makes all the difference in the world. Look at the girl. She is an absolute perfect physical specimen, a running machine. She is so awesome, i wish her all the best!

It's always fun to hear the great New York schools names come up. I grew up and ran for Watertown, NY back in the 60's. I'm remembering not so long ago Nicole Blood, Caitlyn Lane, Lindsey Ferguson, and Hannah Davidson from Saratoga. Blood - Oregon, Lane - Penn State, Ferguson - Notre Dame, Davidson - Providence. Another Rockland County great, not too far from Katelyn Tuohy was Shelby Greaney - also Providence. I live in California now and have coached here. We have a star coming up too. She starts her senior year this fall. She's only run for two years instead of three and is learning as fast as she can. Running for Malibu High Claudia Lane has won two FootLockers so far, broken most of the course records, Mt SAC, State Meet at Fresno, Southern Section at Riverside, etc. 5K typical courses - 15:41 so far. I have all my fingers crossed, hoping she signs with the best coaching staff we have in the PAC-12. Most people aren't even aware of the summer changes. Oregon's Andy and Maurica Powell are now at U Washington (Oregon's Hayward Field is shut down until 2021 for the World T & F Championships remodel). In addition a couple of assistant coaches have signed on, one being Matt Centrowitz - 1500 Gold Medal at Rio, and a 3:50 Mile. I would give anything to see Miss Lane of Malibu pair up with the brand new Washington Huskies coaching superstaff.
I was there to watch Kim Mortensen run a 9:48 lol. I ran 9:56 for my 2mile in HS. In college though I had some breakthrough race. So far Katelym Tuohy hasn't beaten my 10k but I feel that she'll take my time there. She tied my 15:14 5k though.
I watched Jordan Hasay and Laurynne Chetelat run a 9:52 nearly side by side at the California State Meet. Hasay went to Oregon, Chetelat to Stanford, Berkeley, and UC Davis (PhD). They did their last lap in 61 seconds.
Love watching both Katelyn and Claudia run. More of Claudia's races seem to be available for viewing. I hope she has a strong summer and get's back to kicking butt. Honestly I would pay to watch these 2 race against each other. I might have to give the edge to Katelyn and her gorgeous stride. Claudia is equally fun to watch though. I heard the announcer say “from loudoun valley”, isn’t that where that one super fast 800 runner is from, drew hunter? I think, the one who carried his relay team even after one of them fell?
I somewhat liked the video even though the cameraman wasn't that good who are these guys announcing they don't know who she is really what she's done before this just over two laps Togo they finally figured out she might get the national record who do you have announcing
How was this a good race? A good race is a close race wouldn't you agree? She smoked the competition. The commentators should have said, watch this Girl Katelyn Tuoy smoke her competition.
If I was out on that track at the same time as her... It would be like Captain America Winter Soldier... I would run in lane two so she could just blaze on by as she lapped me over and over. 320000 meters, jesus what is that like 100 miles? That's a long run. Considering her mile is like 4:30 average, average just 23 seconds more per mile for double that is impressive.
she, in appearance seems to have a good mindset. hopefully when not running she maintains her feet planted solidly on the ground. my prayers go to her.
I wonder when she gets to the collegiate level and the athletes and a lot of the girls she will meet are of international level how she will decide to run her races ? Yeah. The last girl is still pretty decent at 5:45 pace. I'm a senior guy and I can just barely crack 12.
If nothing goes wrong, we will see her running in future Olympics

I'm a dude and did 10:36 for the 3200 in my younger years and thought I was going to die at the finish. I can't imagine 9:47! Awesome job to Katelyn!
I ran a 9:17 for my best in high school and an 8:53 in college as a freshman. Katelyn is a joy to watch.
Man.. This girl will still out run me even If i try compete her on inline skate... Lol
I hope im not being rude, but she reminds me of Secretariat
Facts. I'd like to 1v1 race her in the 3200, still have yet to run that event in track, only a freshman though.
I ran 3000 m field for 9:40 and lose conscious at 15 yrs old. She is fater than other male runners at same age at state level races lol

When the camera is close. It's crazy to watch how fast she keeps going and going and going.
She's a smooth, fast machine.

Attitude guys, don't forget attitude and she's got it!!!!!!!! It's not all about physique.
She must have some of that antelope DNA.
No, the difference maker is always effort...ALWAYS. The most genetically gifted runner will get beat by the less gifted, harder working runner.
False, DNA doesn't affect mental toughness or training. Those are the dealbreakers, her willpower, and her training are the difference.

Tishidiv how can you sprint like that though every time I see a sprinter I’m like whAt
I do cross country and only did so I could do track because I’d say I’m more of a fast than distance girl.
Props to sprinters though, I feel like it’s harder to get faster than getting better distance time.
Tishidiv distance gets easier the more you do it and plus with proper training and lung capacity you may soon start to make a mile look like a breeze

John Seifert Pacers aren’t allowed in sanctioned high school track races.
