Great video. That 45acp did some major damage with the back face deformation. It would be better to put the helmet on a melon with some support to see how it does. It seems all the cheaper Ballistic helmets show major deformation. Are there any videos of the Ops Core being tested? I can't seem to find any.
A few years back I bought one of those German military helmets from keepshooting. It's an older style but it's 3A I believe and it was brand new with storage and handling scratches and such. I paid $100 for it :) It's OD green and I am thinking about plastidipping it flat black.... you know... make it more tactical and an assault helmet lol.
Strap your test helmet to a melon or other object for a more realistic test. When the test helmet can skitter across the smooth cardboard box as soon as its hit is not the same as a helmet on someone’s head. The additional resistance at the millisecond of impact would result in a different level of damage than that which you are showing in your test.
ok alot of the helmets obviously can stop rounds but that doesn't matter if you're skull is caved in from the backface deformation , as much as i hate spending a chunk of money on the high end stuff ive decided its either that or nothing for the time being
Nick, Yes, but high-end stuff will have less back-face deformation. Look up NIJ standards vs DoD standards, many "budget" helmets out there meet NIJ standards but not DoD because they allow too much back-face deformation. So even though it may stop the bullet, it will still kill you or at least cause sever brain damage.
@@SkintSNIPER262 honestly most people dont need anything beyond the ach. It is DOD standard because the army fields them, you can pick one up for about 150 or less if it is bare bone, the reason the price is so low for the ballistic quality is that wannabe cool guys immediately wants the latest and greatest stuff. But back to the ach; you can get bare bone for 100, spend 100ish on a team wendy padding system, the team wendy boa is about 120ish, ops core shroud is 75ish, and if you need an arch rail then it's another 150ish from ops core. Over all you pay about the same as the hhv helmet and get the DOD standard. If you want to run the com on the arch rail then you can always cut the ear portion off of the ach like some guys do.
This is all well and good and it's a great video but I think a lot of the energy from the impacts is getting lost because the helmet isn't in a fixed position and is moving. Now your neck of course would have a little give but nothing that extreme. I think you might find the results would differ wildly if someone was actually wearing the helmet or the helmet was fixed into place.

i looked at your amazon store page hoping there'd be some nv items on it but didn't see any. can you recommend a couple monoculars to mount on this helmet?
Fwiw, ostensibly wearing a helmet primarily only applies to conflict zones, where the threat of coming under pistol fire is almost zero compared to coming under rifle fire. These helmets do nothing to mitigate those dangers, as you well know. I'm convinced that these are only good for protection for slip and fall, smacking your head while mounting/dismounting vehicles and hosting mission critical accessories.
Buddy of mine took an AK round in an Ops Core at about 50m; it deflected and he just got knocked out. Certainly not a guaranteed outcome but it is possible
Mrgunsngear Channel Whoa. Talk about lucky star or a heavenly angel. Dude should buy a lottery ticket and thank God everyday of his life. 50M, as you know, with an AK round is no joke, glancing blow or not. I would've pissed myself.
So with the rail sections on the side, hypothetically, you could attach two picatenny pistol bayonet to it for tier 1 offensive head butts. Niiiice👍

ACH from eBay $100
Revision modernization kit $200
Nice helmet with all the bells and whistles for $300
Only thing is it’s not a high cut.
If you want even more comfort upgrade the pads to 4D
fair enough
Is the helmet just a strong as the ECH helmet?? Or does the ECH have a little better ballistics rating???
I think ECH is stronger.
Idk. I think the deformation from the .45 acp would hurt more than getting a bullet directly to the brain. Dying pretty much instantly and all...
fair point
Tell us some good value helmet mounted night vision/ir options.
Pvs 14, if you're lucky you'll get one for 1600 used, more likely 2500 new, at least. Plus mount, plus laser
I am 23 1/2" should i get the medium or large? Anyone have opinion that could help me i would appreciate it.
depends on how big your head could be for me im prolly gonna get a medium im also 21
Will the helmet cover on the ops core fit the hhv helmet?
i looked at your amazon store page hoping there'd be some nv items on it but didn't see any. can you recommend a couple monoculars to mount on this helmet?
PVS-14
Did hhv change the suspension system? Mine didn't come with the dial or the foam
maybe
Where is the Hard Head manufacture? I could not get a clear understanding of your assessment?
DoogerDog thank you
is it just me or does he look like a like kid in a candy store in this video hehe
:D
Sold!!
that thing gives you a 50/50 of life with that 45 and 10 . can you say broken skull. better then nothing tho
What kind of night vision do have on helmets? And are you happy with them? Thank you keep up the good reviews!
NYX14 and PVS14; yes
The wind here in NC is no fucking joke lol.
which night vision device can you recommend for a shooter on a budget? (Mrs cooper might kill me so budget that works)
budget means different things to different folks. Shoot me a message on facebook and I'll get some recommendations for your specific budget
Sounds to me like you need a couple streamlight HLX for your rifles and hand held. Until you can get a PVS14.
how does Opscore compare to a Team Wendy helmet?
never used one
What headset are you using?
What helmet cover is on the ops core?
I thought there helmets are rated up to .44 mag but from the looks of that .45 .44 mag will cause major deformation and cause head trauma
Chyna specials! Woot!
what are the plastic clips on the rails used for?
they're multi use actually
