i always think it must be easier (not EASIER obviously skill curve + effort but ykwim) because you wont be chasing after "which layer has that one scrap of color on it", you can just paint over it lol

Same, they don't even use blend mode, just slap color right on. That's so cool
trust me drawing on a single/little amoint of layers is veeery helpful and once you get the hang of it its pretty fun and satisfying
