Was so tickled to see you commenting on James Lambert's last vid! I'd love nothing more than to see you two and possibly DanGPTV do a serious collab MAN that would be something so special 🥺
i've never collabed with dan, but we do talk about n64 stuff a lot and share tips/tricks! not sure if we'd ever do a collab but it's still nice to advance each other's skill like that.
We can all remember the very memorable moment when our spaghetti lover mario became friends with the royal scuttlebug family and fell from space. Truly one of the best scenes in the whole 37 season netflix series
That's mainly due to one person painstakingly decompiling Super Mario 64's code, seeing how much of a mess it was and after learning how to code in N64 which took quite a while, fixed the code to the point the original FPS of 20-odd frames rose to 60 fps which is quite a feat.
The degree to which simpleflips was blind to the path forward in the first slide and how many times he overjumped on the second slide felt extremely like trolling, yeah.
Fantastic work! Both slides were well executed but my only criticism of the first slide is that it blends into the backdrop a little too easily and was hard for me sometimes. Thank you both for your work! ❤
The first slide looks crazier and more fun because it has loops and such but the wind graphic, while cool and creative in concept, get to tangled and make the stage look too messy, imho. It look like way too busy and disorienting for a stage that fairly straight forward. Also, there seems to be a lot of automatisation like in modern Sonic games, it's just for show, it look cool and make the level look more complex but it doesn't add anything to the gamplay. Your physical slide look much better and cutting them with platforming sections and the lack of "bells an whistles" make rhe stage feel a lot more like an official Mario Designed course.
yeah this is what i thought too in terms of looking crazier and more fun. i think my slide looks a bit boring by comparison. though its a lot more visually clear and maybe a bit more pleasant to play (but not to look at)
When I went through the black hole the game crashed, but after a reset it worked and I was able to beat it! It was super nice to have a new romhack to play on the OG console.
When i saw this in SimpleFlips recent video i knew you would rig the competition again Kaze, the thumbnail explain everything. Bomb omb update in Mario Maker 64 when Kaze?
Way cool mods. I love the environmental storytelling. I can tell you put a lot of work and passion into this stuff. The first one (and the HMC Isles cutscene) makes me think of PilotWings 64, and has me thinking it would be neat to have the hub world and game worlds work kind of like Tiny-Huge Island, but the tiny version is the hub world, and when you approach each area, you warp to that level. Which levels you can reach can be limited by what caps you have unlocked. Maybe I've been watching too many Kaze videos, but that second slide is unmistakably Kaze. I'm a huge sucker for that retro night time color scheme. For scaling difficulty, would it be possible to program the death/return floor to cause damage when it returns Mario? How about a secret Star for making it all the way through without falling? Also, looking at the platforms at 4:30, I noticed that most are one color and move horizontally, and the last one is a different color and moves vertically. Could you make the platforms so they switch from horizontal to vertical movement (or left/right to forward/backward) with a ground pound? I think that could make for some interesting platforming sections.
What kinda isekai-ahh lookin' title is that? Having another SM64 mod is lovely. Glad you aren't the only one with SM64 coding skills. More cool mods that way.
Very creative. I agree that the first slide feels very open and free, while the second slide feels polished and slick. Great work from both of you. Also, I am guessing the 5 outlines in the top right are just leftover from the engine, correct?
I have a question: I’m planning on maybe getting into Mario 64 rom hacking soon and I always wondered how do you make your custom power ups as in the last impact hack for example ?
Well technically there are infinitely many scuttlebugs in HCM cause they respawn in two places but if we discard those I dont think they add up to 32...
Hey Kaze long shot but this seems like something you'd know. Is there a way to prevent the edges of a bilinear-filtered textured surface from being fuzzy from where it wraps around? For example if you have a checkerboard pattern that exactly fits the surface, you can see little slivers of the next checkerboard tile at the edge, unless the texture coordinate is clamped instead of wrap-around.
Finally, we can have a scuttlebug jamboree.
My first thought when I saw the title.
All the polygons Kaze removed from the original Mario model went into Kaze's biceps
You're right. bro is getting a bit large
They went to Mario's mustache as it's not made of polygons instead of aloha textures
(in bulk brogan voice)"injecting the polygons into my mooskles"
Boy, that isn't a title screen, that's a sentence screen.
Anime title

I wish all hacks didn't focus on difficulty and more on enjoyability. I appreciate that about this hack.
Difficulty is also a tool to make a game fun, then taste comes into play ^^
That time I got reincarnated as Mario and became friends with the royal family
Still impressed romhackers managed to make SM64 look like a PSP game

Kaze is really good at showing us how un-optimized the original N64 games were. Turns out, the console had a lot more potential.
@@MrDonCoyote definitely had a lot of potential but I think the RAMbus and the Small Texture Cache highly held back the system from truly shining

N64 Space style like Mario Galaxy is my new love
Is that sunshine/galaxy styled water implementation??? Amazing
missed the obvious crack in the floor and BLJd into mario's seat to get out lol
we need a scuttle bug family lore!
Excited for the engine release
You need to make the slide a different color than the skybox the way it is now is pretty unreadable. Very cool overall!
Impressive that this still runs so well with all those alpha transparencies!
This hack has a very isekai-like title.

how do you manage the work/life balance to have a marriage, work on rom hacks, and presumably a full time job?

It doesn't help that most people actually don't measure properly and visually cannot comprehend what a specific size is.
The thing I don't like about the first slide is that it's so hard to see. I can barely tell where the slide is or what's going on.
