There is lots of Judo/Jujitsu in MMA & the UFC. Ever seen a fight won by an armbar(ude hishigi juji gatame), triangle choke(sankaku jime), naked choke(hadaka jime), arm triangle(kata gatame), heel hook(kakato garami), leg lock(ashi higishi), knee bar(hiza garami), neck crank(gyaku higishi), omoplata(sankaku garami), gogaplata(kagato jime)... ?
Both are Japanese names for the Japanese art,but recently, due to the ignorance of the media,Brazilian Jiu Jitsu adopted the regular name of Jiu Jitsu. And when someone says Jiu Jitsu you have to ask which one he's actually talking about.
Ive experienced a multiple atacker situation where I was able to use my training to "win" the fight, I took a really hard punch though. I've seen a knife defence work and have heard many stories of gun defence, i've trained in both and in training have been very successful (although, real life is much different). What I ment is if a standup fighter is striking you, you will have no idea how to deal with is unless you do standup. If you go to the ground, one of his buddies will stomp your face
In theory a judoka can't fight for money and outside a tatami, but many UFC fighters came from Judo. I think the last one was Ronda Rousey, US Judo Bronze Medal in Beijing 2008. Judoka are skilled in throwing and ground fighting and almos all UFC fights end up in the ground with armlock and choke. I remember Fedor bringing several opponents on the ground using Judo O uchi gari (Big inner reap). Obviously, the techniques I'm talking about are also part of the BJJ fighters background.
Iliadis final fight, 15:32, once Iliadis overloads with right-on-left side overhand grip, Nishiyama can grip leg, correct? Kata guruma attempt would have been legal
If your training is repetative, your success rate can be higher than you think. My father has trained Krav Maga for 20 years and has trained police in defensive tactics, I myself have also trained Krav Maga and can see how a knife defence situation would be very dangerous, but the success rate is higher than you would think.
Judo, in the thought of his founder father, Jigoro Kano, is an educational system developed to make better people for a better society ("Seiryoku Zenyo" and "Jita Kyoei"). It cames from a martial art (Ju Jitsu - Kano was Jiu Jitsu Granmaster) and can be practised as combat sport (nowdays the dominant aspect of Judo). A good judoka should practise both Randori and Kata, Shiai (the competion) is one of the aspects of Judo, probably not the most important. Kata is grammar, Randori is composition.
Ah yes thx for reply - I'm no pro (not even Shodan) but I think attempting kata/te guruma would haven preferable to being thrown for ippon. Maybe he could have stalled and waited for matte! I figure this might be 1 reason they changed the rules and made the exception like that
call me an ignorant if i'm wrong but I think that traditional JJ is more like a combat martial art, and BJJ and Judo are sports. So those are a little bit different ways.
15:32 Iliadis gets that big cross grip and Nishiyama could have gone for kuchiki taoshi or any big leg grabs but no one understood the 2010 rules yet..
both styles teach that stuff but neither allows knees , elbows, or joint attacks in competition. I've done both. you don't know what you're talking about.
Yes, there is japanese cultural prejudice against women, but the sport is international. How the japanese treat their women does not stain the entire sport. People are mistreated in every sport.
nope i already knew that..... now with traditional jiu jitsu spawned Aikido, Bartitsu, judo. from judo Brazilian jiu jistsu from there i'm gonna say sambo even though most of its leg locc move come from catch wrestling......wat ever it all started from japan folks.but thats actually a good thing that u know about the history of judo.Which is the most effective out of the all of them..... i'm goin to Say judo and BJJ.
So you're saying that the video you posted will get me killed? I'll admit, the techniques they used were a bit off, but look at MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) they HAVE to learn this or the can die. I've spoken to a few Marines who have had to use this, and 2 Police Officers.
There was a football goalie in south america who was killed after letting a goal passed. Do things like that ruin football? Of course not. So why is judo different?
Yes, I remember the issue. It´s a calamity. Many soccer teams in Mexico are owned by the Mob. Narcs kill players. Answer: Judo is a creation of an educator, Jigoro Kano. The purpose of Judo, as originally designed, is for helping people. If we don´t follow the true spirit of Judo, then Judo is not better than a soccer mexican team owned by The Mob or could be the Japanese Yakuza.
I am sure that there are good coaches in olympic Judo. But this is a real reflection of japanese males' bias against women. I worked and lived in Japan for 15 years.
Yeah, he's been training for like ever, and grew up in a pretty bad neighborhood, that's where the first one happened, the second when he was a cop. But iget what you mean, how reality is different thatn training.
Thats the stupidest and the most ignorant statement I've ever heard.Judo has EVERYTHING BJJ has and vice versa.BJJ is not a bit different than Judo(due to the most successful ripoff in recent history). He's probably reffering to JuJutsu the ancient samurai martial art which was the first Japanese and the 2nd world grappling system(1st being Catch Wrestling). And some judokas need to get the sand out of their heads that Judo is just for throws and takedowns.
FYI, Japan has the highest rate of child suicide. Yes, try to ignore the facts, the stain is for Judo, for the Olympic Committee, and for Japan. Nice to hear, that people are mistreated in every sport. So, what´s so good about Judo in Japan? Were not Betrayed Jigoro Kano's Ideals of Education for Japan? Think it Over. Judo is FAR from its origina goal.
no no no no no XD its because you dont have talent, thats why : ) the judo is the gentle way to fight without domaging the other, you dont understand the phylosophy behind judo and all other martial art
Judo is a combat sport AND a martial art.
Judo and Bjj the BEST COMBINATION!
Thanks to ijf
it was difficult to stop watching the flawless kouchi gari at 34:45! well done!

Best sport ever!
Awesome !!!
of course!
Judo has some good takedowns very useful in BJJ. And btw. judo was first.
GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, its the correct pronouncation, but JuJutsu is used to prevent confusing it with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
What martial arts have you done exactly?
its a lot harder than tripping ive done judo
Right! That´s why you shouldn´t be so cheerful about any human being mistreated like that. JUDO IS FOR LIFE. Not for a medal.
judo is both a martial art and a combat sport.
In JKD you should have practiced multiple attack, knife, and gun situations. How long have you been training in each art?
Both are Japanese names for the Japanese art,but recently, due to the ignorance of the media,Brazilian Jiu Jitsu adopted the regular name of Jiu Jitsu. And when someone says Jiu Jitsu you have to ask which one he's actually talking about.
You cant touch the leg as an inetial throw but you can grab it after you use a legal throw in 2010

judo world Championship Tokyo 2010
this is his personal matters, not because of the sport!
both techniques would had been hard to execute considering Nishiyama's posture
judo world championship Tokyo 2010
That should hane been a hansukomaki. He posted on his head to complete the throw; the referee and the corner judges missed it.
The video you showed me proves the effectiveness of knife defence. I'm not quite sure I understand the point you're trying to make.
wheres the newaza ?

both styles teach that stuff but neither allows knees , elbows, or joint attacks in competition. I've done both. you don't know what you're talking about.

29:00 pin, 37:39
what about the olympic female competitors from japan cruelly beaten by their coach?
so jiu jitsu is brazilian and jujutsu is japanese
Don't know why judo just doesn't thrill me..seems way to sporty..not enough grappling.
really? Judo is only classified as a combat sport? not a martial art?
But the actions of a few do not reflect those of the whole. That's over generalization
That doesn't reflect the sport as a whole, bud
if you tri it you will love it like some people hat islam but if they know what is islam they will love it
I am sure that there are good coaches in olympic Judo. But this is a real reflection of japanese males' bias against women. I worked and lived in Japan for 15 years.
