This movie is produced in China and the ruling CCP is a political rival of the Kuomintang now currently based in Taiwan along with some islands are the last remaining territories under the ROC. The portrayal of the ROC flag has to be done vaguely. The movie also got criticized as a propaganda tool to glorify the Kuomintang as well the 'failure' of portraying "the class oppression within the ranks of the Kuomintang army, the misdeeds of its officers and its evil oppression of the people" This shows that there is still some animosity between the CCP and Kuomintang. In Chinese movies, Kuomintang is portrayed as greedy and corrupt. The same goes to CCP portrayed in Taiwanese movies.
