What did you think of this opening from Orson Welles' Othello from 1952?

      One word: Epic.

Have you watched the rest of the movie yet? This was the first Shakespeare film I watched as a teenager and the focused intensity of it (the whole thing is, what, 90 minutes?) just showed me the power of Shakespeare. The opening is brilliant but the relentless build through to the ending is well worth the journey.

This looks so rad man! The budget was about to make Orson Welles put out the light then put out the light!

I see Wells took the concept of always have your towel from Hitchhikers Guide seriously. Hehe.

Hi. It's a rare thing that I see someone going as orgasmic about this scene as I have been going over it ever since I saw it in my 20s. Yes, the scene is amazing. It has a spark of genius. It is highly experimental but done so well that it creates a language of cinema unique to Welles that works within his realm. I'm also surprised people don't talk enough of it (and that Touch of Evil's one is considered "the best" (not that I don't adore it)). Welles had a talent for opening scenes. Citizen Kane also features something special in the first 2-3 minutes. And the choice of music always had something in common. Thanks a lot for this vid. You probably do talk too much for people who haven't seen it, but for me it was just a joy to watch :=)
