My biggest mistake was worrying too much about my future to the point where i was too distracted and unmotivated to focus on anything in the present

You should be proud of yourself. I am in my fifties with a family and grandkids I watch you thinking wow the kids these days have so many more opportunities than I did and look what they are doing. You are a success without a college degree and look what you have done. You and Shelby are intelligent young women making a living on your own. I absolutely love watching you both. Congratulations and keep moving forward.

My mistake would be not trying something because I was afraid people would judge me for it until I succeeded... when really I just needed to go for it

so true, I always think in a way that if you won't do this you will regret in the future. So it's better actually do and not to think about other's reaction or approval.

Community colleges are so underrated. Most of them have the same curriculums as the big universities (down to the same textbooks), the professors are physically there to teach (instead of letting the T.A.s teach because they are away writing a book or something), and the best part is that tuition is just a fraction of what you would pay anywhere else.

Most of my professors even came from surrounding universities and taught the exact same price for a 1/3 of the price! I loved community college!

My experience: staying too long in a toxic workplace, thinking that I'm the problem and I'm not good enough.
Value yourself, people. And don't let others take advantage of you.

I’m so excited for you to have found your passions, and it’s so cool to watch someone reach a point where everything they’ve experienced clicks, and you find what genuinely inspires you💛

I feel like being the boss/owner/CEO or whatever is SO romanticized and over-hyped nowadays. When in reality being that person is unbelievably stressful and takes a toll on your personal life and other things.

First off, I met you a few weekends ago on a Saturday night at an outdoor bar in Seattle (not going to use the name for privacy if you go there frequently) and talked a bit about real estate and you’re truly so sweet. Also I think the idea of going to an elite college is one of the worst mistakes people make so I’m glad to hear you highlight this. I’d say hanging on to high school romantic relationships is another mistake, one I made myself

  • @eanna1232
    @eanna1232 3 ปีที่แล้ว +79

My mistake/lesson I have learned is that you do NOT need to be friends with everyone. There are people I use to be friends with because it was convenient or because I felt like I had too even if they weren't the best person or were super negative. The older I have gotten the more I realized that the annoying statement " your vibe attracts your tribe" is so true. If you are a good positive person that is working hard and motivated, those types of people will come into your life and it's honestly life changing. I have realized that even people in our large friend group I do not need to be besties with, sure I will say hello, and wish nothing but the best for them, but I'm not friends with them, we don't hang out, or talk outside of group settings because they are toxic and negative and I realized that that is okay, and that I don't have to be friends with them just because it's what everyone else thinks I should do.

I always appreciate your honesty and self reflection, you are a fascinating person. My own mistakes were my first choices for a major in college (Poly Sci, then History) which gave me no satisfaction. It wasn't until my junior year that I took a drawing class as an elective that I discovered my passion. Years later I became a Art professor teaching drawing and photography. Ultimately a great choice.

My mistake: letting people close to me influence my education/career path even though it came from love and the very best of intentions.
At the time, pharmacy was supposed to be my career. I kinda wanted it but my family and close family friends wanted it more for me. Long story short, I flunked out after the 2nd year. I was saddled with tons of debt and now on a forgiveness plan.
Even though I didn’t get a PharmD, I did get a Masters, in Biotechnology from John’s Hopkins; never would’ve dreamed I would have a degree from a highly prestigious college.
I’m in my dream career now, it took 11 years of college, from UG to Pharmacy School to a Master’s program.
I learned that, at the end of the day, it’s me who has to work and live my life. A lot of forgiveness came out of that, mostly forgiving myself for failing.
God knew where I needed to be, and thank God!! I would’ve either been in the pandemic everyday or laid off.

Same I went into biochemistry and I shouldn't have. I am super creative and I should have focused on what I want even if it didn't look prestigious on the outside. I like creating things and being an advocate for others. So now at almost 35 I am going down that path and doing things for me.

Biggest mistakes i made is not making long term or short term goals . I grew up in a super relaxed household and no one in my family talked about goal setting or achieving long term success , they were more thinking hey lets get thru the month kind of mindset . And when i was 19 I got heavy into reading self help books and awesome TH-cam creators such as this channel that really showed me whats out there in life beyond this small mindset that i was raised around . So I wish I learned things i know now like making short term goals and long term goals aka a 5 year plan and 10 year plan much sooner in life vs now as a 22 year old.

About your 5th mistake I would like to say this:
Years ago I was heartbroken and came across your YT video on a different channel, I believe it was titled heartbreak day 1? Anyway, you described how you were finally deciding to let someone go because you realized it was time to put yourself first. That inspired me to do it too.
Then you released heartbreak 1 year later and I was SO excited to see how happy you were.
Fast forward YEARS later and I still watch your videos because you seem like such a genuine person. It’s so comforting to know that there are people in their 20’s who are still trying to figure it out. So, thank you for oversharing ❤️

My biggest mistakes are not knowing my own worth, letting people treat me poorly and making decisions based on what others definition of success rather than what I truly wanted. It wasn't until I was 29 that I finally quit a job I hated and grew my side business into full time. I've had alot of bumps along the way but now run my diy business part time and resell vintage items and flip furniture on the side. I've found its a great balance for me and keeps things interesting.

“If you take anything from this video, just take some form of action” I hated how much I needed to hear that, but, I can’t say how much I at the same time appreciated it. I overthink everything instead of just starting and figuring things out as they come. You can never be too prepared, sure. Since you can’t ever be too prepared, you can spend forever preparing yourself for something you never start. That’s definitely been me lately; I know exactly the steps I need to be taking, I just can’t decide on which shoes I’m going to wear to take those steps. I need to just start taking those steps. I can always switch out my shoes if along the way I realize the ones I’m wearing aren’t a good fit for me.
I found a lot of value in what you covered, thank you for that. I hope you’re well☀️

I remember the era where you did skits and expectations versus reality and I was so pissed because everyone during that time was making content for 14 year olds and it felt like you've forgotten that 18-21 year olds were watching you at that time. I stopped watching you for a while during the super contrasted skit-like video years. I feel like you've grown so much since then and I love it when you overshare your life. I feel like I'm always gonna down to watch you.

You talking about this makes me realize how long I've been following you!! I really enjoyed hearing about all these learning experiences though for you. I thought I wanted to do a PhD in Child Psychology after college, but had nothing to say on the actual application so I joined the Peace Corps as a science teacher (with 2 years prior experience teaching) came out deciding that I want to do an MPH instead. Met my fiancé there, made life long friends, and am going into my second year of the program in a new city. I'm so excited for this new chapter in my life!!

I totally agree with over sharing... I stopped going live after only a couple of videos and I deleted them. I noticed when I shared more personal things the harsh judgement came. Teaching and showing helped me, I found I am sooo much happier with doing those types of videos even if it’s an unboxing. Congratulations on your real estate venture! My family is in the same business and I have only explored a little your doing great! Love your channel.

  • @jamesbaileymyhealthjourney6469
    @jamesbaileymyhealthjourney6469 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I don’t see them as mistakes or failures anymore but lessons. You passed them now you will face others. But for me it was depression and my different attempts to cope like using my house key to scrape into my forearm that I was as a loser and other hurtful things or seeking pleasure and solace from food until I reached 580 lbs. That was a turning point that almost killed me. I’m eating healthy and losing weight. I’ve lost 75lbs so far and I’m up to walking 3 miles a day. I even started my channel hoping that I could help motivate others to change their life for a healthy and fit one.
I’m happy for you and just keep being an awesome badass!

One of the things that I have always admired about you, especially at such a young age, is your entrepreneurship. You’re not afraid of making mistakes so you try so many different things. This is what successful people do. They try A LOT of things. Very few people succeed on their first attempt with their first product. You are constantly growing yourself and improving yourself which is why you are where you. I think you are a GREAT role model for others on how to step out and try new things, because you don’t know until you try!

I enjoyed your video! BTW when people call me stuck up I say “OMG THANK YOU SO MUUUUCH!” lol I get the biggest kick out of it. Besides what’s wrong with trying to do better and be a better person? I also have low patience for people that have low emotional intelligence. Usually I have found that is the case with people who bully, or say mean things for the sake of being mean. Keep shining Diva! BTW you look just like your Mom! I hope your parents are doing well.

I loved the last point because as a society we all are pushed to be the best and be the leader, but honestly, I love myself better when I can be apart of something and do the behind the scenes stuff. Plus seemingly always the people of lower positions that do the more fulfilling work anyway.
My biggest mistake was surrounding myself with too many people instead of having a locked down super close few people. Some of my most fulfilling conversations are from the people that know me the best instead of burning myself out from knowing so many damn people (because trust me, its a thing). It's like losing yourself in a sense

my mistake: going to a traditional university to make my parents happy. I hated it, and didn’t want to go into debt. I switched over to a trade school, broke the news to my parents and I am now doing a program I’m excited to be certified in and I received a full ride scholarship! as someone once said “if you’re living in fear, you aren’t living.”

Hey Monica! I watched ur videos since I was 16, now I’m 27. You do the maths 😅 I practically grew up watching ur videos. It started with me watching ur old videos like Morning routines, getting ready to go to school, ur school haul, workout videos and much more!
But now as I see it, you grew so much to someone that is very true to themselves. Either for you personally or with the content that ur doing. I can see that as you grow, you keep trying new stuff which is great because if you didn’t try it how do u know that u’re gonna like it or not. For sure, you’re gonna to gain experiences through it.
From what I see, I really love your enthusiasm! I believe that you have the strongest heart and mind. Fall down 7 times, stand up 8 is the quote that is reminds me of you every time I see it. So keep doing what u do love because true there are haters out there but above all keep in mind that u always have us, that supports you!!
This is long comment I’m not even sure if you read it or not but if you do, I’m happy that u can read a piece of my mind. Hihi
I hope the best from you. I do hope that in future you will still be doing TH-cam. So that if I ever getting married and get stress out hahha I can watch your videos for inspiration.
Thank you, thank you so much for all ur thoughts ur inspiration and ur enthusiasm! You know, we can feel it all when we watch ur videos!
    Much Love from Malaysia ❤️

Here in Brazil we go straight to our main "college goal" like med school and I was pushed to do law because is a good path for people who want to have more stable jobs. I hated it, it was not for me and I was failing every class because that wasn't what I wanted to do with my life. I did 3 semesters and quit. Now I'm an architect and loooove what I do, but if wasn't for that law detour I wouldn't have met one of my best friends.

I am so happy you talked about the elite college situation. All throughout high school, I've just been told how going to a UC is the right choice and will get you a job or just going to any prestigious school. I ended up getting rejected by most and choose a state school instead. It was after I went there when I realized that it really does not matter how "elite" your school is. It's really what you make out of it. I still had a great time, had great professors, made amazing friends. I felt like I thrived more without all this pressure that I had during high school. On top of it, I saved a TON of money. So when choosing a grad school, I didn't care about going to an elite school. I just wanted an affordable school that'll give me the knowledge I desire. That's amazing for people who go to these schools and have done many amazing things after, but I just wish someone would have told me that it was ok to go to a local school too. They honestly made me feel like it was the end of the world and I hated that.

The biggest mistake I made that taught be the biggest lesson was enlisting in the army last year. I enlisted as an e-4 even though I have a bachelors degree because I thought that it would teach me better leadership skills as opposed to commissioning as an officer just for the sake of it. It was really rough and I came home right after basic and am no longer in the army. I learned a ton and I wouldn’t change it but I’m happy to be a civilian again.

Love this! The further I get into my 20s the more strongly I've felt that this is the time in life to fail forward! Most things aren't going to be perfect or turn out how you planned but they eventually lead you where you need to be. 😌 My biggest mistake so far in my 20s was probably not managing my finances well from the start once I was working full time! Unfortunately I think it's one of those things you just have to learn from yourself but I wish I'd focused on budgeting, paying down debt, saving, etc. sooner than when life forced me to with unexpected expenses. Good times. 😂

I didn't get into the University that I wanted to go so I decided to move to England for a year to work as an au pair. Thanks to that I fell in love with the English language. A year later I came back home to the Basque country since I got into the Uni that I wanted. A few years later I became an English teacher which helped me decided what I wanted to do for the rest of my live.

It is a trip traveling back on the virtual *memory-history-lane* . Applying the current self logic; it is more apparent now, (makes more sense), how I landed where I am at today. Seems there was a *higher-power* intervening, (having a life-travel safety net), with the younger self life path. Exceptional topic, thanks.

Totally agree with the college thing! I remember my high school senior year teacher told me “it’s not what school you go to, it’s about what you do during those years” and that stuck with me! 🤍

In college, as an introvert I tried to join a fraternity and bought a cool sports car that was wayyyy out of my budget to try to fit in/ be “cool”. After doing so I realized it wasn’t me and it led me to be much more financially responsible in the future and learn more about what I value 🙂.

Somehow I had no idea you had a collab channel. I remember watching this channel and MLC and your gymnastics channel. As a former gymnast, I remember really enjoying watching you interact with those girls at your old gym. That's so sad you didn't make any money from justlikethat. Lesson learned.

In the words of Steven Levitt "fail fast". When an idea comes to you explore it with everything you got and if it doesn't go anywhere ditch it and move onto the next thing. The key is to actually put effort into it though.

When I was in high school I wanted to be a veterinarian. I got invited to a week long program of my choice at the local university, and had to number my course choices. Picked biology courses as my top ones, and pick a human rights program as my last resort. Of course I got my last choice, and was so upset because it didn’t relate to what I wanted to do that I was about to quit. Long story short, I went to the university in that program and ended up loving it so much that I am now at that same university studying that same program. They even had a draw for the map that was in the classroom for the week and I won. It’s now up in my room to remind me to always keep an open mind and try new things. ❤️

Monica, you spoke so beautifully in sharing your experiences and what you’ve learned from them. I really enjoyed watching your video.
I’m currently feeling like that swimmer in the middle of the ocean, unsure what move to make next. I’m working as a freelance digital artist, wondering if I should explore children’s book illustration or more strict graphic design. I went to school for film and feel a bit of pressure but also interest maybe in doing PA work. I’d love any advice you have but also understand your busy schedule.
Thanks for making these videos and I’d love to see a video song the lines of “What questions to ask yourself when you feel stuck”, “How to find your path in life” ect.

Thanks Monica! Trying to get into a fancy school in the United States is even more difficult when you apply from abroad as an international student! But thanks for the motivation and for assuring the rest of the world that attending these overrated money-draining schools is not a guarantee of success after all! 😳😎

Im still young, but my biggest mistake has been not doing what I wanted to do becuase I was afraid of what others would think of me. And I still struggle a little bit with this but I am trying to get better and one of the things that I've wanted to do for a long time was a fitness youtube channel, so I'm happy that I started.

I started college as a Pre-Med major ... since my university didn't have a specific "pre-med" major, I wanted to do Elementary Education / Pre-Med. They said it isn't possible because there isn't enough overlap, so I was going to do Accounting / Pre-Med. By the end of my first year, I knew I didn't want to do pre-med. So, I changed my major to Elementary Education and transferred to the branch campus of my university that was less than 30 minutes from my house. I transferred just as the university was changing the "model" of the education program. I would now need to go until was close to a Master's Degree (you could get licensed when you were 1 class away from your Master's). I graduated with my B.S.Ed but didn't get accepted into the Master's program (even though I was well over ALL of the requirements). I was rejected 3 times and was so close to a degree in psychology, so I took the few classes remaining to earn my B.A. in Psychology. I had been an undergraduate for not quite 10 years.
Then, I got a job at a child care an hour from home (and I don't drive). After a couple months, my friend (who got me the interview for the job and she also lived an hour away, but in a different direction) and I got a house together. IF I had stayed with pre-med, then I wouldn't have met my friend or worked at the child care or met the family that later on, had 2 girls who stole my heart.

My mistake was doing absolutely zero research about colleges and leaving myself with a choice of film school or generic liberal arts education. I later found out there were schools where I could have done both. But I ended up debt free out of undergrad and meandered my way into a masters in library science. Now I’m a children’s librarian which is just absolutely the most perfect thing for me.
