My thoughts is that when Ronaldo talks about mentality is that no young man utd player was as hungry as Ronaldo when he was at man utd. He out scored them all. That shouldn't be happening at that level. Watch Messi when he went to PSG. Mpagpe knew Messi was a brand and will take over him when he joins but knowing he's got dream and knowing Messi has fulfilled most of his didn't allow Messi out shine him because he was also hungry. There were penalties Messi should have taken but Mpagpe stepped up and most times he misses.
