I live in Thailand a keen biker and worked for the Tourist police here,The biggest killer here is inferior helmets or people not wearing them which accounts for about 18,000 a year but consider this there are over 20 million bikes on the road here most making numerous trips a day and bikes here are the backbone of Thailands domestic economy and are a valuable asset, the most important thing for foreigners to do who wisk to drive or ride here is take both Thai tests and obtain a licence because the rules of the road here are a lot different to the west and understanding those makes it a lot safer to ride and drive here,Yes both biking and driving here can be challenging but Ive Biked and driven all over this Beaurifull kingdom with no serious problems at all.
Advising people to get there bike licence in Thailand is crazy. Get it in your home country then learn to ride defensively. The rules in Thailand are not much different to most countries. The problem is nobody follows the rules. The car and licence tests in Thailand are done in a controlled environment with no other vehicles on the road. A 5 minute ride inside the lines and here's your licence, now go and out on the real road and join the millions of others who have zero defensive skills and good luck. Im a driving instructor in Australia and I've assisted many Thais get their licence in Australia. Ones that already have a Thai licence. Along with India, Vietnam and Philippines, they are mostly the hardest and longest to teach.
understanding the rhythm of traffic flow... the dance... is critically important... Bangkok is slightly different than Chiang Mai... foreigners riding bikes need to understand not to react like they would at home... just flow with it... and know where your bike should be... and that yes... it's frigging insanely dangerous
@@BobbyCogburn-y2i There is n comparison to riding in Bangkok or Changmai the population in Bangkok is 17 million lucky if there is a million people in the City of Changmai.
@ People that dont own biking licences have no business riding bikes here in the first place those that do its a good idea to take the test here the rules are a lot different to the West, take that from someone that's been riding safely here for 31 years and if you do not own a Thairiding licence here you will not be insured.

7:00 700 people per year is far from shockingly high, first of all. And second of all it's rather 3.200 people per year in 2019. And thirdly, how do you come up with 66/day in Bangkok @ 9:15? Oh, I know, that was during a 7 day period at new year 2019. But that was an extreme record. Shame on your journalism!
The clip that the foreigners posted is not entirely true. Thailand is a developing country with many roads that are not outdated, but the drivers may be a bit hot-tempered, which causes accidents. Thailand isn't so bad in the eyes of foreigners. They are good-natured and know how to respect traffic laws. Some countries even have them. Be fair to this clip. They came to school without much information.
Absolute rubbish! Have you ever been to Thailand? Or lived here for longer than a 2 week holiday? Thai drivers in general are not hot-tempered. They are just useless drivers. And you say they know how to respect traffic laws, that's so funny and absolute bollocks. Go and stand on a Thai road and see how many go through red lights, drive the wrong way down the road, don't wear a helmet or seat belt or are on their phones!!!! Congratulations on writing the biggest load of bollocks I've read in a long time.
My friend and I were run over by a car on the pedestrian walkway outside the immigration office in Chiang Mai. The car was then hit by a tourist bus driving the car further over the top of us. She was in hospital for 2 weeks recovering from broken ribs and arm. I was lucky, just cuts and bruises.
Thailand's roads are much safer now than when I was living there in the 80s. I saw at least one dead body a month in the roads over a four year period.
Yes and millions of more bikes and cars and trucks on the road,I came here early 90s and things have certainly changed, but most people that turn up here now have no idea how both Bikes and Pickups have revolutionised the economy we have both seen that happen.
All Thais know about 'Poh Teck Tung'--sure they do, the 'Body Snatchers' that relive the victims of any of value! Dangerous outfit! Very little medical training!
As a retired loss control and prevention specialist and having lived in Thailand for some years I ceased to drive myself due to the appalling driving standards. “Control” seems to be an alien term for the government where everything is reactionary. The police are incapable of maintaining road safety unsurprisingly given a number of them are unlicensed and focus on foreign drivers where there is money to be made for infractions, that as opposed to unlicensed Thais (1-mil) and their lies the rub.
Lived here 31 years and covered 100s of thousands of Klicks and never had problems, especially with the cops both driving and riding one of my 4 bikes yes you're right Thailand both Driving and biking does sort the men out from the boys and if you don't understand whats going on here take a Taxi.
In Thailand, when you have an accident, rescue workers will rush to the accident scene and take the injured person to the nearest hospital. The medical expenses will be claimed from the insurance company of that car, but the injured person must have a driver's license.
I've lived in Thailand for 20 years... Bangkok is nuts... just nuts... super easy to get a ride on a motorcycle taxi... but... not recommended... your knees will be the point of contact against other vehicles and objects... every time we drive into Chiang Mai I am stunned we don't see more accidents... especially with motorcycles... we call them motokwai... locals will know why

You can't fix stupid. The only thing that really saves lives in these countries is poor roads that make them slow down.
and teach them how to drive and look around
Thailand main roads are quite good and possibly allows for more speeding?
